Effective Solar Powered Fan

My apartment feels like a giant toaster oven, and I'm desperate for some relief! I am thinking about a solar-powered fan from Gosun, but I'm worried those little desk ones won't cut it.

Anyone have experience with solar fans that can actually cool down a room? Looking for something powerful enough to make a difference, but quiet enough for sleeping (because apparently, sleep is optional in this heatwave).

LIve in Houston and wife is terrified that we will lose power this hurricane season

Long story short, we are in a long term rental in an area that his flooded in the past, but it would need to be almost 2' rise to get into the house, but we have had 3 power outages in the last 10 days for various equipment failures on the grid. We have lots of groceries/freezer stuff that we could lose (they are in garage) not to mention how miserable the house would be with no AC running. Was thinking about a quick connect and getting a 9000kw generator. Would this work? Here is my existing panel. Only 200 amp service to the house.

Platformio Extension for VSCode - Unable to Initialize New Project

Running Silicon M1 MAC OS 14.5. Using latest VSCode with Platformio extension. Installs no problems and no errors. But when I try to create a New Project, I get the error "Could not initialize project" with a lots of log messages.

Saw this in the messages: OSError: [Errno 86] Bad CPU type in executable along with references to different line number in .py files.

Examples:

File \"/Users/tjones/.platformio/penv/lib/python3.11/site-packages/platformio/builder/main.py\", line 173:

File \"/Users/tjones/.platformio/packages/tool-scons/scons-local-4.7.0/SCons/Script/SConscript.py\", line 612

I can't image this extension does not run on M1 Macs.

It is able to create all the folders and files.

Anyone get this type of error or have any idea why I'm getting this error? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First project, soldering or breadboard? (Deej)

This is my first approach to Arduino, i wanted to build and audio mixer for my pc using Deej. I have 0 experience in soldering and i saw that you can use a breadboard instead in a Linus' video, but it wasn't very precise. I also wanted to keep it as cheap as possible. Should i use a breadboard first? If yes, how?

Thanks in advance.

Small shop owner bad with people

The shop ive worked at for 24 years running is owned by, for lack of a better term, a dick. He still cant spell my last name and im the only employee. And i do not consider him a friend, and never have. He works me like everyday is my first day, and any signs of slacking will get you me the door immediately. Constantly reminding me how much my health insurance costs him. Im on time everyday and crank out good parts everyday. I first arcticle and run, no inspector. And i havent had any machine crash in years. Never a major crash. 7 machines mill and lathe very successful and lucrative in the 2000s 2010s(except 07-08) Older journeymen retired. One mill one lathe. I eventually filled in to do both positions, but no more prototype. Boss was a hyperactive workaholic but now is basically too old to setup and occasionally runs grave production for a couple hours a month. Now hes a hyperactive shipper. We had a second setup/production guy, but work fell off a cliff a year ago. Barely keeping the doors open. Hes actually now homeless. Anyways the boss has a very rude way of dealing with reps and salesman. They dont come here anymore. I cant blame them. No sales and the guys a dick plus a pennypincher cheapskate. He used to be friendly when he had more money years ago. He rags on service people so bad weve had 2 that wont come back. None of the people in any of the adjascent buildings will come and talk to him anymore because its fruitless. Hes had friends from childhood visit from out of town and he tells them hes too busy to talk. Its crazy. Im the polar opposite and if a rep or a salesman stops in, im gonna bs for a while when im by myself, which is always. Sometimes for weeks.

When boss dies/retires i used to think about buying the shop, but not in this economy. Although i feel i could make a go of it. Friendliness is step one.

The last few years i have noticed the boss is actually kind of checking out. He still comes in early to micromanage me for a few hours and then goes home. He makes completely no effort at all to find new customers. He is social media illiterate. Too cheap to advertise, and now to cheap to buy cutters and inserts and too cheap to make machine repairs. Tool reps used to come around quite often, now they are all gone because the boss just growls at them and says im busy.
