I thought this WAS a photo. The only thing I’d say you could add is possibly some dust buildup on the keys and wood (maybe even have the dust only present in the crevices and edges of the keys where the fingers don’t touch them, and where a wipe/towel is likely to miss).
that’s a nitpick though. This is EXTREMELY convincing.
True, but upon looking at the full sized picture, there's already a ton of imperfections that absolutely sell the picture to be real. Small scratches, smudges, wear, the slight differences in the height of the keys... Maybe some specs of dust or microhair somewhere might make it even more believable, but... this is already damn convincing. The closer I look, the realer it gets.
Crazy good
Dust could work but the only difference is how clean it would be the piano.
Much more interesting are the subtleties of the wear on the keys, having different especular maps for the areas where the fingers touch the keys as they look different by the oil of the fingers and the erosion from playing.
I totally believe you that this is a render, but please refer to Rule 5: "Photorealistic renders must have evidence". Take this comment as a complement!
Love the uneven keys. I would say if it’s an older piano you could put divots where the fingers have touched the more used keys
I had an old piano growing up. One thing I'd add is wear on the very tips of the keys (the overhanging part), like small nicks or chips.
Here's an example, although the damage is on the extreme end of things: https://www.moorepiano.com/ivory-piano-key-repair/
the main thi g that pulls me out of this is the camera. your texture and modeling work is great, but the very narrow depth of field makes this feel odd. thats probably fairly nitpicky, but it's also a pretty quick fix, and all i can really think of
Agreed. Something felt off and I looked really closely to see what it was. It looks better zoomed in, because the full shot is hurt by the camera.
