  • Is Redshift going to make Octane obsolete? Is Redshift going to make Octane obsolete?
    Question

    Hey C4Dheads

I'm a long time Octane user. I find it easy to use and I was trained up with it. Cinema 4D is making Redshift native in 2024 and onwards. Do you think in a few years we're all just going to be put onto Redshift forever for this reason? I know OTOY wants to stay in business long term and people like paying for their products so they have a loyal customer base. I just feel like everybody is moving over to Redshift slowly and they're also getting a lot more third party material support packs and Octane is getting fewer these days. Thoughts?

Consistent Light Tracing with Linear Cloner in Cinema 4D

I'm working in Cinema 4D on a project using a linear cloner object with small lights and a plain effector to create light traces with falloff, using a step effector field for animation. The challenge is to maintain consistency in the tracing pattern regardless of the cloner object's length. Specifically, I need one fully bright light followed by a falloff of 7 trailing lights, repeating this pattern throughout.

Currently, my setup animates the falloff based on the total number of lights in the cloner object. How can I override this to ensure the tracing always follows the 8-light pattern (1 bright, 7 falloff), regardless of the length of the cloner?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Maxon One Headache Maxon One Headache

I'm curious to know if the issue I'm experiencing is unique to me, or if others are dealing with this. So I mainly work on apple products for video and post production work, primarily in After Effects and Premiere. For Cinema 4D, I built a PC specifically tailored to C4D and Redshift with 2 graphics cards. I had a C4D subscription, and separately, a Red Giant subscription for some AE plugins that I use. When I was due to renew, Maxon pushed their Maxon One subscription plan as a great value and the "recommended" choice. I signed up, but now, If I'm using C4D on my PC, it automatically uses up my Red Giant licence, as they are all tied together with Maxon One. If I want to render in C4D and work in AE on my mac, it's simply not possible. I have to kill my render, close C4D, log on to maxon.net, release my license, go on my mac, log in to maxon.net to assign the license, restart AE, sometimes twice to get it to see the available license.... ALL OF THAT just to use a Red Giant plugin?? I'm not even using Red Giant in C4D or on the PC whatsoever. I reached out to C4D support to see if they could separate the licenses or grant me another Red Giant license, and the support was terrible. They just told me to basically buy another seat. Here's their response:

"Please feel free to purchase the additional desired license of your choosing.

One can find our product plans and pricing linked below:

Happy to help, at this time I will plan on closing this ticket. If you should need any further assistance, regarding this matter, reply to this ticket and it will automatically reopen. You can also open a new ticket here Maxon Support

Thanks again for being part of our creative community!

I don't feel like they care whatsoever, and just wanted to get more money out of me. I don't even know how to use Red Giant in C4D for whatever post effects it can do... I never have and never plan to.

It's just crazy to me that with free options like Unreal and Blender, Maxon support isn't even trying to come up with a solution for a paying customer. The way their service is set up is literally keeping me from doing my job. Rant over.

Mirage (noun) - "A hope or wish that has no chance of being achieved."
Watch our short film here: Sci-Fi Short Film “Mirage"

A tale of love unfolds between two individuals from opposite social classes, revealing the struggle to overcome societal boundaries in their quest for happiness and love.

A collaborative project between Jeffrey Xiyang Su, Hanson Ma, and Michael Wang. As huge sci-fi nerds, we wanted this short film to serve as an homage to the cyberpunk genre. We also took this opportunity to explore new technologies, such as character rigging and motion capture, to reenact the workflow of a motion/animation studio.‍

Cinema4D Apple Silicon Optimization Cinema4D Apple Silicon Optimization
    Question

    Hello, Reddit!
I'm currently switching from Blender to Cinema4D and I have some troubles with render time. I work on MacBook Pro 14-inch (Apple M2 Pro chip) and it's great for most of the scenes in blender, but similar animations with the same resolution render x10 slower using Cinema4D with Redshift.
There are some settings setups and tricks that allow you to optimise render process in Blender for Apple devices and especially for Apple Silicon, but I have found nothing like that for C4D and Redshift.

I know that there are a lot of people using MacBooks for Motion Design in C4D, does anyone know how to solve this problem? Are there any hints to increase render speed without loosing much quality?

    Bevel polygon Bevel polygon

I'm trying to follow this video. He puts a polygon in a Cloner then in a connect then uses bevel object to bevel the edges. However in R21 I can't seem to bevel the edges of a polygon or plane. If I use bevel object I can change the bevel option from edges to polygons and it will bevel the external edge only. If I use the bevel tool then I can only bevel the internal edges but not the outer ones. Am I doing something wrong or is this not possible in R21?
