[Vent] [Discussion] Dog Shaming

I am a member of a dog shaming group on a certain social media platform. Most posts are cute, dogs doing normal dog stuff and getting into cute situations. Some of them look a bit staged. If people need likes that badly, I guess that's fine. However, there is this one individual that posts daily. She tells the story of how her dog got into the situation, posts a pic, and a hashtag of #adventuresof(dog's name). It's been going on for a few days and the attention-whoring is real. She posted one showing where her dog supposedly stole a stick of butter. It showed the dog lying on his bed with a stick of butter that had zero teeth marks. Appears fake, but whatever. Yesterday, her roommate apparently made some ribs for himself. He them placed them on the table and went to his room. The dog then came along, stole these unsauced, unseasoned ribs, and began eating. This owner took a picture of her dog eating cooked bones for everyone to see. Pretty sure it was staged too. Today, her dog managed to get into a wax melter. I commented that she should maybe stop putting her dog in harm's way for attention. Other members swarmed in, calling me a Karen, a rotten bitch, and negative. I was seriously the only person that saw the problem. I just think that if your dog seriously has an "adventure" like this daily, you might want to send your dog to someone that can properly supervise him/her. I wouldn't be going online advertising my sucky dog parenting. Was I wrong for calling this person out? Am I a Karen for drawing the line at cooked bones and wax melters?

A Good job? [Funny Dog-shaming Post]

Sonny is a 2.5 year old Guide Dog.
Sonny has 3 braincells on a good day.

Now its not often Sonny misses his commands because he does great at paying attention to me and only me. Especially when others around him and cooing and cawing about how "good of a dog he is."

Well there is a sickness going around and of course I got it. This is the first time Sonny has heard me get /this/ sick. Enough where I lose my voice because of it.

Kinda see where this is going?

Be me, getting extremely frustrated while picking up medication because Sonny isnt responding to ANY of his commands. None. He's got a forward pull going on and then just stands there and stares at me when I try to get him to go left or right. I couldnt figure it out for the life of me. No between. No, "Sonny find mom" [to find my wife]. Nothing.

Why?

Because the little shithead didnt realize I was the one talking to him. I said his name a few times and he tilted his head back and forth at a man standing next to us. I guess my voice sounded so surreal to him that he didnt realize it was me talking.

Im extremely proud of him for not listening to strangers, but good gods- I didnt think he'd be so literal about it.

He DID get some treats once we got outside and he sat a few times for me with this "new voice," But goodness. I kinda wanted to put him in a trashcan.

Feeling lost and upset after Shahada and dog shaming

Hi all, I have been lingering in this subreddit for a bit and interested in Islam for a long time now, and have been working my way through the Quran. Raised Southern Baptist Christian, left the church, and then had about 15 years of just not knowing what I wanted until finding Islam. I'll preface that I have looked on this subreddit for posts regarding my question, and I still want to ask as I want to include my personal context of how I'm feeling right now post-Shahada.

So, yesterday I was able to take my Shahada at a masjid and I felt amazing afterwards, such a feeling of peace, calm, pure happiness, to where I even started crying. Afterwards, folks were asking if I wanted to hang out and I mentioned that I needed to get home to feed my dogs. I had known that dogs were a touchy subject, but I guess I thought based on what I read here that I would be okay mentioning it.

It was immediately a lot of "that's really bad" and "you won't get angels in your home" and, I'll be honest, I've been crushed ever since. I love my dogs like children, I spend so much time making sure they are safe, warm, fed, and happy, and keeping them outside is just not something I'm willing to do. I just can't, for me that would be like keeping children outside, it would crush every bit of me.

Where I'm at right now is a state of confusion and loss. I felt so good taking my Shahada, and maybe it's on me for not reading more about dogs prior, but I didn't see it in the Quran and thought all animals were worthy of being in the home and loved. I'm so upset to the point that I'm wondering if this is even for me anymore. I'm sad that in order for me to celebrate Islam I have to take away these dogs in my life (or keep them outside) that bring me so much comfort, and they are truly sweet creatures. I don't even know what I'm asking at this point beyond just sharing that I'm heartbroken because all the peace and joy I felt after Shahada is gone.

What do I do?
