Portable power questions...jackery, delta, goal zero

The recent extreme weather and extended power outages in Texas having me really considering my own preps and what I might need in a similar situation. One thing that I keep coming back to is a portable power source, like one of those mentioned above. I have an elderly parent who lives with us. She gets cold very easily, and I don't think extra wool blankets or a down comforter would really be sufficient to get her warmed up quickly if temps fall fast. We have a camping electric blanket that plugs into a car cigarette lighter/phone charging port that works fairly well, and would likely be helpful. Having something to plug it into would be key, though.

I've been considering getting one of these portable power units anyway, but this might be what pushes me into biting the bullet and following through. The EcoFlow Delta has great reviews and is leading the pack right now, especially since there's a promotion and it's available for under $1100 right now with free shipping. I had also looked into the jackery units, which were originally what I was leaning towards, until I looked at more reviews and saw the Delta seems to have a bit of an edge. I haven't ruled out the goal zero stations entirely, either.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these power stations? I live in the northeast, so I'm not sure I'd bother getting one of the optional solar panels, but it's something I figure I can add later if I choose to. I know it takes a lot longer to charge one back up, but it might still be worth it down the road.

Do people have any other ideas or suggestions that might help to be prepared for such an extreme weather scenario in the future? Since it already gets pretty frosty here in winter, I think a similar situation is a more "when" than "if" type of situation.

Genesis Dual Battery or GoalZero/Jackery pattern pack?

2019 Jeep Rubicon, I’m debating if the large additional cost of the Genesis Dual Battery tray and 2 AGM batteries is worth the additional cost vs. a GoalZero Yeti or Jackery battery pack. Mainly wanting to run a domestic fridge and a few chargers. There is a winch and aux lighting wired into the main vehicle battery.

My life goal, zero responsibilities...

I have a life goal and that is zero responsibilities. The only two things that I currently have on my plate are a mortgage and my job. I'm 45 years old with no kids, no pets, no student loans, no credit card debt, two cars paid off and a house that is 60% paid off. I have a great job that I plan on staying with until I retire.

Whenever I go out with friends or co-workers and describe my life goals, they tell me I am being "lazy" or "not living life". Am I taking the lazy route in life? I am happy and healthy and love coming home to silence. I can do whatever I want, at any time I want. I have a girlfriend and we only see each other on the weekends. We are both busy on weekdays with our careers. The arrangement works. In our free time we like to travel, do car/gearhead stuff, go fishing, watch movies, hike and play tennis.

Am I being lazy? Am I being selfish? Am I not living life to the fullest? Ultimately, having zero responsibilities in life means the ultimate happiness to me. I would describe it as being in a zen like state with an absolutely clear mind. I've been wanting to post my thoughts here on Reddit for the longest time, because no one I know IRL truly understands how I feel.

Either way, it's all good my friends. Stay happy and healthy!

Goal zero inverter caught on fire

This was very unusual for a solar generator I believe, but I left my inverter on all night nothing plugged in and when I woke up a few minutes later I started hearing a static sound. Thought it was a bug flying around. The next thing I knew It got louder until it fried. The goal zero did what it was supported to do and shut off the inverter automatically. Should I open up the goal zero to remove the inverter piece? I'm really unsure what would happen if I left the inverter on at this point other than blow up some more internals as the shock starts again. While on the topic do most people carry a fire extinguisher for their inverters as I plan on doing a DIY and want to use a 2000w inverter. I suspect that would be the piece that would go up in flames as everything else would have a fuse blow instead.

  • r/Rivian - Under load, it’ll run my furnace for 1:45 or so.
