I remember reading it and thinking “…What?” Just.. No words… I cannot imagine why she would treat a PERSON OF THE YEAR interview like she was having a chitchat with Jimmy Kimmel. Does she know who else has won person of the year? Actual historical figures who are mandatory for students to be taught about in schools all around the world. So why would she treat it like it was the Grammys? Like it was just a way to tease an upcoming project and build some hype?
She dated that interview. So. Terribly. Mentioning Travis Kelce, especially when she regularly throws fits about being reduced to the men she’s dated, was absolutely idiotic. What happens if they break up? She’ll be 80 years old looking back on her interview and have to read about an ex!! Oh, and knowing Taylor she’ll demonize Travis once they break up, so she’ll have to read about a man that she now hates. Also, WHY would she tease Reputation TV??? I would understand her mentioning the re-recording project, but to specifically tease the next one that was up for release, or any album for that matter, makes me take the interview so much less seriously and really dates the whole thing.
I wish she had taken the opportunity to dispel rumours and gossip, to talk about her life and clear up some misconceptions… To actually let future generations KNOW HER a little bit!! It’s genuinely sad that she had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and just… wasted it.
Edit: said it best, “Most of the interviews she’s done in her life have been specifically for current projects or to drop clues, etc. This was something completely different and I don’t think she recognized that. It feels like she sees it as just another award to put on the shelf, as opposed to a prestigious accomplishment. It’s interesting that she had a chance to really shape the perception of her for years to come and she made it about her current relationship and a decade old feud.”
