Dismantle

Through strong coalitions and strategic grassroots campaigns, we fight to dismantle the prison industrial complex, including the caging, policing and surveilling practices and larger systems that harm, control, oppress and impoverish our communities and greater society.

Change

We strive to change common sense, resource allocation, and practices (at all scales) away from harm, punishment, and control, and toward practices that empower communities and address harm and problems at their root cause.

Build

As we dismantle and change, we build: we build practices, skills, relationships and resources that address the needs of our communities. From interpersonal to local community to state and larger-scale, we demand that investments be made that are life-affirming and enable us to thrive.

The Abolitionist, launched in the spring of 2005, is a bilingual (English/Spanish) publication dedicated to the strategy and practice of PIC abolition. It is distributed absolutely free of charge to thousands of people in prisons, jails, and detention centers throughout the US, who in turn share the paper with many more of their imprisoned comrades. As George Jackson said: “The point is…in the face of what we confront, to fight and win. That’s the real objective: not just to make statements, no matter how noble, but to destroy the system that oppresses us […]”
