Seriously..... website timeouts are becoming the absolute bane of my existence. We used to be able to open 15 tools in the morning and they would stay active for at least 8 hours until the end of the work day. Now I sign in to the password manager, sign into the site, get sidetracked by another task, come back 10 minutes later and im timed out of the site and timed out of the password manager. Then I have to logon to both yet again. This happends repeatedly over and over again all day. Feels like all they want us to get done is just spend half the day logging in and timing out. If I ever get control I always crank the timeout as high as it can go. Not giving us an 8 hour timeout is honestly insane. Heck at this point I'd take a 4 hour timeout, just let me logon 1-2x a day and be good. Yet another "security" feature that completely disrupts workflow. Not even going to mention MFA overload....

Tech job demand and salaries going down, and so is my aspirations.

Tech job demand and salaries going down, and so is my aspirations.

born in 94 in Canada, dropped out of school in Grade 10 after parents divorced. dad moved to europe, mom stayed but couldn't afford to take care of me, so I lived at youth shelter and started selling dr0gs, etc.

Finished GED for highschool in 2017, took a Network admin course in 2018, got my first real job making 25$/hour as Help Desk in Calgary at 24 years old.

in 2018 i started waking up early every day and was studying an average of 10-50 hours a week for computer science, I've been consistently studying ever since.

I got my CCNA, CCNPx3, Azure 104, AZ 303, AZ 400, AZ 500, AZ 700, AZ 900, AI 900. I have created courses on udemy and youtube for python, linux, azure, c++, c#, c

I have studied easily 15,000 hours in the last 8 years, I have sacrificed so many events, birthdays, friendships, etc to study. I gave up my passion for music, art, sold my guitars, and abandoned all my hobbies to study... in Canada I hit a reallly high salary at 160k/year as a senior devops engineer... and it wasn't enough. I was too late. By the time I got that job in 2023, it wasnt remote, it was return to office along with every other canadian job in Toronto or Vancouver where i couldn't afford to really live there the way people were able to off similar salaries just 6 years ago. I got a US job for a TN visa 6 months ago- I applied to every state in USA but my luck I got Seattle, I don't want to complain about it, but im at 75k/year which in Seattle... is not a lot. I'm living like a bachelor again in a studio, half my monthly income goes to the cheapest place I could find in EVERETT, so I'm stuck in traffic 3 hours a day to get abused by my boss on a daily basis.

The economy and job market is down for everyone, the world is getting laid off, pay and demand is going down for tech jobs, cost of living is increasing so fast everywhere, what is the fucking point.

I study so hard, for so long, i sacrifice so much of my life and time, I have been so focused, I put in every last effort of my existence to try and just make enough. I don't need a lamborghini or a bmw, I don't need a big single family home. All I want is a modest townhouse, or even just a condo - a 3 bedroom where I can have 2 kids with their own rooms, and I can just drive a toyota.. i don't need a lot, and I worked so fucking hard and I can only afford to just be alone.

back in 2017 when I was just working at Walmart and selling whatever on the side, I was able to afford to rent a nice condo. Now I make a ton more than I did, and I've improved myself a monumental amount, and I can afford LESS of a condo in a worse neighborhood. It's like, I leveled up 100 times, and the world around me scaled up with my level, and now it's just exactly the same as it was.

its like that linkin park song - I tried so hard, and got so far, and in the end it doesnt even matter.

i had a nice 2 years during covid where i worked remote and i moved out to a small city in Canada called Moncton where I finally had such a relaxed financial lifestyle, I traveled a bit, saved some money - and now everyones forced back to the office in expensive cities... it's like, I got a taste of freedom, and now that I got that taste, i feel even more like a slave than i did prior to covid.
