The Level of Play At Shanghai Is Higher Than Champs 2023, According to Sliggy

“Do you think the level of [play at] Shanghai is lower than Madrid? No, not really. I think it's higher to be honest . . . We were spoiled last year. We had a meta where info sentinel and Skye were really popular. We had teams with perfect info. We were spoiled with Valorant where everyone was doing masterclass calls . . . It was all about minimap watching and mid rounding. Now it’s all about pop flash, send it, duels, scrappiness. So right now everyone’s making this mistake: saying it’s sloppier but it’s just the meta. It’s the fact Skye's been nerfed and no one has perfect info. So I think the level [of play] is higher than Champs [2023], I really do. I think it’s a different meta that is scrappier.” - Sliggy on the level of play at Shanghai

VCT Masters Shanghai Playoffs Upper Semifinal 100T v GenG & TH v G2 - 2:51:49

Thoughts on this Sliggy quote? Do you agree or disagree, and why?

EDIT: Sliggy also had this to say during the agent select of Map 2 between PRX and G2.

"The thing is the GENG v FNC game, I've read some of the comments, flaming, saying [the level of play was low], do you know what it is? This new meta where it's less protocols and more pop-flashy leaves viewers completely lost. Everyone thinks this muddy scrappy Valorant is bad Valorant and I see everyone saying "Wow this was such a low level game." I think everyone's so used to Skye being in and having perfect info, [so] everything looked great. Without Skye, there's no perfect info so people are having to gamble or push for information cause we can see the minimap. There's way more hindsight from viewers and people talking about it. With Skye you could figure out where people were. But now? It's so much more gambly. No, this is Valorant without a busted Skye. There are mistakes, don't get me wrong. But its nowhere near the level of what people are saying."

i think its safe to say after twitch rivals that events like MCC, BW, PB are just way more fun and healthier for the community

events where people fight for money just split the community apart and we have streamers at each others necks

and in the end... the games arent even properly tested/are terrible. honestly a shame to the organizers that this happens literally every single twitch rivals

considering the fact that it was 5 days and had long waits, its such a waste of time and way too stressful for the viewers and streamers :/

shoutout mcc and their organizers, atleast they know how to properly run multiple fun events with a less budget

I'm so tired of Tracer

All I know what to do anymore is play Tracer, it's been so long. I don't know what Overwatch is anymore. The other day, I picked a different character and tried to use recall with them. Everything has become Tracer to me. There are no other characters, no skills other than Blink. The only Ultimate i know how to activate is Pulse bomb. Occasionally I use a quick melee, and I cry a little. I Thwack for game but wish I was being gamed instead. It's become a joke of sorts, or maybe it's just my life. I can't go anywhere without seeing Tracer. I went to feed my dog the other night, but instead of eating she flickered in and out of existence while brandishing a pulse pistol. I had to put her down. I sit in the corner now counting down the days, the days where we shall see sweet release from this torment, the day when hero based FPS was about 2 sides counter picking and creating something beautiful. Those days are long gone. I have seen God, and I have seen the devil, but they are one and the same. I stared into the abyss and screamed, and it screamed back: "Cheers love, the cavalry's here".

Hannahxxrose and Sylvee Present: MCC Participants in House of Nightmares Day 4

Concept:

In Maplewood town on September 13th of the year 1984 a series of reporters have gone missing after investigating the mysterious House of Horrors. Inside ghosts, apparitions and monsters too horrifying to detail run rampant, intent on stealing the souls of any mere mortals who dare to step foot inside

Over the course of 5 days 150 Journalists (Participants) compete in a serious of spooky elimination based nightmares/games and tests within the House of Horrors with the last one standing being allowed to leave with their life still intact. The rest will have their souls haunt the House of Horrors for eternity. 1st receives 70k from the prize pool, 2nd getting 12k and 3rd - 20th getting 1k. As is currently stands there are 70 participants coming into Day 4 - 50 people will be eliminated today

Surviving MCC Participants coming into the event for Day 4: Hannahxxrose, Sylvee, Sapnap, BadBoyHalo, Shadoune, PeteZahHutt, 5up, Fruitberries, Sneegsnag, FalseSymmetry, Rendog, Feinberg, Antfrost, FireBreathMan, Apokuna, SpeedSilver, Gumiho, Seapeekay, CapitanGato, Wallibear, Awesamdude, Bekyamon, Iskall85, OwengeJuice, Acho, Fulham, Couriway, OllieGamerz, Wolfeei, AntVenom and Purpled

Deceased MCC Participants from the previous days: Kratzy, JackManifold, DarkEyeBrows, Vixella, DrGluon, Cubfan135, LexieMarie, Tubbo, BaboAbe and RedVelvetIsCake

Game 6: Doll, Doll, Curse

Objective: Same as the previous days but each round will eliminate 6 people, the dolls get progressively faster in the round, one of the dolls with an unfair spawn placement is removed and the round timer doesn't have an end - only when a participant is killed. Rest of the rules are the same :Participants will have to keep away from the dolls by running through the house or hiding in items but these can only be used once. Each participants have 2 hearts with the dolls dealing half a heart's worth of damage per hit. 30 people will be eliminated to account for the Prop Hunt game being discounted on Day 3

Be warned this game lasted a while but the eliminations came quick and fast. The same strats from yesterday are used today (Vote for a colour opposite to the path you want so the doll doesn't spawn near it) with a suspiciously high amount of people doing the Hannah and FireBreathMan strategy of using the same corner to hide and rotate depend on where the doll is accordingly. Despite being a part of this strat though RenDog lags behind the rest of the group and gets caught for the first kill of the day. As the main group of participants is running a doll cuts into the middle of them all and the group parts like the Red Sea - leaving a shocked OwengeJuice stranded in the middle. He second guesses himself for a second giving the doll time to get a few hits in. In order to escape he makes straight for a chest to hide in and just makes it in time - only for 5up who has been split from his group by a doll closing in to come round the corner. 5up tries to enter the chest but as they can only hold one person he is left stranded and beaten to death by the two dolls. The timer then runs out on OwengeJuice and he's thrown to the wolves as the doll, that had started to move away, returns and claims his life as well. This is especially sad as both survived in the previous day's Prop Hunt

A large group of participants fails to react quickly enough to chasing doll and a series of terrible events follows: Wallibear hits a wall as he's trying to cut around it and it slows him down enough for a chasing doll to catch up. The recently sped up doll latches on and he unfortunately goes down as well. With Wallibear down the doll now latches onto the next closest victim - Sylvee. As the House of Horrors lead Journalist runs there are just simply no places to hide as the merciless doll takes all of her health away and Sylvee's soul is taken from the land of the living. False Symmetry then becomes it's next new target and despite trading hunted positions with SageMommy it's sadly False who sates the dolls desire for death. Other participants fall thick and fast and in the space of about 40 seconds 6 are gone including 3 MCC participants

Apokuna gets set on fire but just about manages to evade a doll as the doll falls behind and begins to hunt other people. PeteZahHutt, who immediately recognises he was hunted, drags the doll away into a group - but he also runs straight into another doll. To get away he makes straight for a statue to hide in and in a stroke of bad luck Detune is already using it and Pete has nowhere to go except to visit death. Yet even worse than that Ollie Gamerz pauses for a split second as he second he's hunted and nearly successfully passes the doll onto Awesamedude but fails - he makes straight for the same statue only mere seconds after Pete and sufferers the except same fate much to the joy of Detune. vGumiho makes use of a chest and safely makes it into it but loses the rest of the group. At this point being alone is a very bad idea because if you run into a doll there's no hope of passing the hunt onto anyone else. Meanwhile a fightened Awesamdude can be heard screaming from the back of the pack as he's hunted - he switches but realises the only options are AntVenom and Acho. The trio are now being hunted by 2 dolls and sadly one of them tags AntVenom with a blast and he goes down for good. Awesamdude realises the fireballs can't go round corners and manages to dodge a few hits but is eventually fireballed to death as well.

An amazing showdown between a fireball doll and BadBoyHalo ensues as Seapeekay leads a doll straight into Bad and gets caught in the central area with no corners to hide from the fireballs. However he works out the timing of the dolls fireballs, counts down and immediately dodges just as the doll fires - it's not always accurate and he goes down to half a heart but Bad actually outlasts 2 other participants and survives the round on last hit in probably the most impressive play so far of the tournament - alas though vGumiho is one of these last 2 as she has slowly had her hp removed and a doll just about gets the last hit in as the yells "GUUUMIIIIII". In the last round Bekyamon swerves to avoid a fireball but this slows her down too much and with no one close by to take the hunt away she is chased down and terminated. In the final round the dolls are so fast that it's hard to even transfer one to someone else as CapitanGato finds out when they are run down straight off of spawn.

At the end of the game 30 people have been eliminated with 13 of them being MCC participants. Others eliminated include Sagemommy, Bonsai Broz, Dlffrent, Cheappickle and Detune

Game 7: Move in Silence

Objective: 2 groups of 20 players - each group will have 4 hunters and 16 Survivors. Survivors can win by collecting 5 notes that are hidden around the map but will reveal themselves if sprinting. Hunters can win by killing Survivors but have reduced visibility and greater hearing - hunters can also reveal the location of all survivors periodically, turn off lights and lock all door. Hunters also have hunger that can be satiated by eating Survivors or finding food around the map. If there are not 4 kills on each map then the hunters will be eliminated on the map with the least amount of kills. The map is played in the House of Horrors with dungeon like rooms and long corridors with twists and turns but the two groups play in different "realities". In total 8 people will be eliminated this game.

The "reality" of this game was that there were a lot of rules and explaining however it didn't take very long to complete with only 8 eliminations. Also due to the dark ambience, inconsistant name tags and hunters being in monster skins it was hard to distinguish who was in which reality. Sapnap opts to be a hunter to avoid getting targeted but ends up a runner in a reality with FireBreathMan, Shadoune, BadBoyHalo, SpeedSilver, Feinberg, Wolfeei and SeapeekayAcho, Antfrost and Sneegsnag are hunters in this reality and Acho uses the reveal to spot every survivor together - Acho chases down BadBoyHalo who escapes but immediately pivots to SpeedSilver who is consequently eliminated. Acho then gets another kill in spectacular fashion before the round ends with Sneeg getting 2 very strong kills by chasing down his opponents and Antfraud just chilling.

In the other reality Hannahxxrose is a Survivor alongside Purpled, Couriway, Fruitberries, Conterstine, Iskall85. Hannah's group elects to run brazenly around the map in order to rush the pages to win which ends well when they run into the hunters immediately - two being Fruitberries and Fulham. 2 non MCC participants are killed almost immediately with Fruit and Fulham chasing everyone down. Fulham actually stops after 2 kills and lets Iskall85 leave in peace. The rounds ends instantly and all MCC participants from this reality make it ("THAT GAME SUCKS OH MY GOD" - FruityB)

The game ends. 32 Participants remain

Game 8: Run of Terror

Objective: Follow a path by completing a parkour course consisting of a maze and traps. 4 captains will be selected at random (these were Sneegsnag, Conterstine, Antfrost and Acho) and they will choose between the remaining participants to create a team of 8 players. The 8 players will all follow the Parkour Path with traps into a mansion with paintings that will kill you if their eyes are upon. This then leads to a maze where you lie prone on the floor to navigate and then onto a room where they will need to solve a puzzle to get out (not all players are needed to complete the puzzle). Once complete the doors will open and it's more Parkour with traps and then the finish. While it's individually based you will still need to work as a team as traps are set off by player movements. In the puzzle room the participants must finds codes to unlock locks and fuel the generators. 12 Players will be eliminated. Sort of like an AR crossed with GR but on a very large scale - the GR aspect is very prevalent here as it's all about problem solving and finding your way

Team Acho: Shadoune, Feinberg, Couriway, Aguapo, Talking Mime, Reddoons, Pmbta. Hella strong team - these guys absolutely blitz the course although are staggered between eachother. Feinberg makes the puzzle room first but struggles to understand what to do, luckily Shadoune backs up to help and they make some headway but hit a wall until the rest of the squad arrives (unfortunately Pmbta is too far behind at this point). However on the second Parkour course they by far have the best comms with Shadoune communicating with Reddoons, Feinberg, Agapuo and Couriway to not set off the traps and they all finish in top 10. Acho arrives a little while later in 15th with a very good performance. An emotional Couriway celebrates finishing

Team Conterstine: Sapnap, FireBreathMan, Coldified, Silverruns, Swirls, Idogmy and Nuvia. Strong team, they collectively make light work of the Parkour (sadly Nuvia falls behind and never catches up despite doing very well solo). They all beeline to the maze at all roughly the same time before the house of haunted paintings catches both MCC participants out a few times - however FBM gets to the puzzle room fast with Coldi. Together with Coldified they get 2/3 of the puzzle done before Sapnap comes in to find the remaining third. FBM and Sapnap work together on the parkour course, failing a few times under the pressure, before FBM pulls slightly ahead however they both ultimately make it to the final 20 with 7 of their team making it too. Respect to FBM and Sapnap who set aside their differences this game to work together and actually praised each other it was great to see

Team Sneegsnag: Purpled, Fruitberries, Fulham, Iskall85, BadBoyHalo, Serpias, and RaptorGS. Very well rounded team and they actually mostly stay together even up to the Haunted House of Paintings. Fruitberries swears a whole lot at the computers trying to work out the codes for the generators and that seems to work okay as they do in fact solve the puzzle to open the door however they are behind a couple of teams. As they are about halfway through the second parkour course the first few players are finishing. Purpled makes it first out the group with Sneegsnag and BadBoyHalo right behind him. With 2 spaces remaining Fruitberries and Iskall85 make it to the final point - only to trigger a trap that kills them both. They return to the beginning and upon starting that section again Fulham finishes meaning there is one final space for just one of them. They both start but Iskall gets knocked off by a swinging hammer - Fruit is forced to wait for a fan to start back up and Iskall catches back up. It's final race between the two teammates and Fruitberries just about takes it from Iskall (I mean how could you to the poor man)

Team Antfrost: Hannahxxrose, Seapeekay, Apokuna, Wolfeei, xShatter, SlushieVCR, ImASquidKid. Good team but they're slow out the gate due to being cautions with the traps. It's not even a bad strategy the only problem being that all the other teams went ham on the course (but they weren't to know that). However they make up some time in the House of Haunted Paintings by being all together and working as a unit - tough to say from eye test but it looks like the best overall performance in there (even though some teams had individuals who were faster). Hannah, CPK and Antfrost had amazing comms and really put their best effort into helping everyone. Wolfeei too backing up with any info needed. It's hard to pick out individual performances here as they were all just very good together. They blitz the maze together too and are the only team to make it to the puzzle room as a squad. Again they do really well and work together in unison. As they start the last Parkour however people start to finish the course - Seapeekay, Antfrost, Wolfeei, Hannahxxrose, Slushi and xShatter all haul a** to get to the end - CPK even manages to make it to the final section with his eyes set on 20th place - only to set off a trap and respawn. Hannah gets yeeted off by a hammer, Sushi fails on the last section as well, Antfrost struggles with some of the Parkour and Wolfeei and Squidkid just falls short of the finish line too barely missing out. Apokuna falls some way behind as everyone made a last ditch effort. xShatter has the most heart breaking though as they were almost over the line. It's an unfortunate end as all are eliminated - they made up some great ground but the initial parkour section slowed them down too much. However their mid section performance was top tier and they should be very proud of that

Below are the final placement of the top 20:

  1. Coldified

  2. Shadoune

  3. Feinberg

  4. Conterstine

  5. Couriway

  6. Swirls

  7. Reddoons

  8. Purpled

  9. Aguapo

  10. Serpais

  11. FireBreathMan

  12. Silverruns

  13. TalkingMime

  14. Sneegsnag

  15. Acho

  16. Sapnap

  17. BadBoyHalo

  18. Idogmy

  19. Fulham

  20. Fruitberries

Surviving MCC Participants: Sapnap, BadBoyHalo, Shadoune, Fruitberries, Sneegsnag, Feinberg, FireBreathMan, Acho, Fulham, Couriway, Coldified, Serpias and Purpled

Deceased MCC Participants: Hannahxxrose, Sylvee, Tubbo, PeteZahHutt, 5up, FalseSymmetry, Rendog, Dr Gluon, Vixella, Antfrost, RedVelvetIsCake, Apokuna, SpeedSilver, Gumiho, Kratzy, Jack Manifold, Lexie Marie, Seapeekay, CapitanGato, DarkEyeBrows, Cubfan135, Wallibear, Awesamdude, Bekyamon, Iskall85, BaboAbe, OwengeJuice, OllieGamerz, Wolfeei and AntVenom

Player Shoutouts: Easiest decision of my life - first goes to BadBoyHalo who's ingenious method of running the doll around quite literally saved his life. No one else in the tournament managed to straight up outplay the dolls in either game and yet bad was able to do this long enough for 2 others to be eliminated. He also did very well on the parkour and finished ahead of Fruitberries and Fulham was is mad. Second goes to Shadoune who just made the final day of his 4th straight Twitch Rivals event - I can't find where his final placement was for the original squid craft but if it was Top 10 then he's yet to drop out of top 10 so far which is incredible. Lastly goes to Acho and Iskall85 who have both been really impressive over the course of the event, Acho came in clutch today in all games and was very impactful and Iskall has been amazing from the get go. Sadly Iskall didn't make it but they should still be very proud

Comparisons with MCC:

I wont go into too much detail about game 6 as I talked about it yesterday and the game took out way more people than was intended - the changes made to the game were much better QOL changes for sure. Game 7 was... strange. If I had to compare it to an MCC game, maybe SOT? I really can't think of anything which I suppose should be good, usually most games are a rip off of MCC (no hate, MCC does an amazing job at creating games so I understand why this happens), but it was over so fast that all the suspense and build up didn't lead up to much. I will say I'd LOVE to have that sense of tension and build up in MCC, the music is great but it's very upbeat and joyful, it'd be fun to just once have an MCC with just dark undertones and the growing sense of dread. Game 8 was really great, as a final game to decide the top 20 it was perfect IMO - the traps were really interesting because you could set them off and it would have an affect on your team therefore you had to communicate. If I were to choose somewhere this could belong in MCC maybe a section in Parkour Warrior? We only have one movement game that is somewhat team based (PKT) I feel like have a section or a last section where you have to complete it together as a team would be a great way of adding depth to the game and making it less mute up and focus on yourself. Failing that the Haunted Painting house was REALLY good I'd love to have that in MCC somewhere - maybe one of the paths in SOT is just full of painting that petrify you if you look too closely

Adding onto the post from the other day and this one - I'd love some more music ambience in MCC. It probably wouldn't fit the current musical score we have now, and I'm not saying the current game songs are bad by any means as they're not, the tension in these events is really cool and having some of that in MCC might be cool.

Is there anything you guys saw you think would be a good addition MCC? Is there anything MCC does that you think could be adopted in other MC tournaments? Let me know below!
