Love It or List It
i've been watching this show a lot lately and am noticing/wondering a few things:
-
hillary must be so disappointed when they reveal they are listing the house. she (well, and her team of contractors/tilers/painters etc.) do so much more work than david does, and it must feel like they did it all for nothing if they sell the house anyway. i wonder if the finished house sells for more because hillary designed it? maybe people buying houses don't watch HGTV.
-
how much of the... tension/frustration/anger from the clients about changes that need to be made to hillary's original plan as issues arise are added in or amplified by production? i get that they're trying to create entertaining television, it is the only explanation i can think of for some of these people's over-the-top, completely inappropriate reactions to finding out they are not going to be able to have a finished basement because they sound out the whole foundation needs to be rebuilt or their house might fall over (or whatever). i cannot imagine being so overtly rude to someone who is helping me, especially on national television.
-
i noticed there is another series, called love it or list it, too (which i had to get past the inaccurate name of) that is literally exactly the same thing as the original series, down to the line that the realtor delivers ("i have one more listing to show you. yours.") only with two completely different hosts. and i am just wondering how that works?
EDIT: just found these articles (:

I will start by saying that I grew up in Europe, in a 60square meter apartment, with my mom and my sister. The American style houses are something only very wealthy people would have.
That being said, people looking for new houses in love it or list it seem to have more of a hoarding problem than anything else. The tendency to accumulate stuff (something I do struggle with my spouse to this day) is beyond ridiculous.
If these people only went through their stuff and tidied up, they’d likely find some space.
Also, what is it with kids having their own rooms AND a play room? And the room for entertainment? Do these people really have multiple parties a year? Idk it all seems a bit ridiculous to me.
I might be out of the choir, but I do not have a guest room per se. I can make one if needed, but again, that seems a bit of a waste. One couple was concerned about the gueat not liking the guest room space or whatever. You are offered a free place to stay and they even complain?

EDITED TO ADD: This People article goes into a little more detail
One of my favorite episodes, and I'm watching it right now. A house big enough to have its own zip code. Hilary creates an amazing double kitchen, about the size of my entire house.
I'll admit it. I got sucked into a Love It or List It marathon.
I find it interesting when Hilary receives devastating budget news. She now needs an additional $15K. Asks homeowners for funding. They say no. She must scrap one of their projects from the list. Ok cool, that makes sense.
Now, the final reveal. Hilary has included several items I imagine really ate into the budget. Things the homeowners did not ask for. In the episode I just watched, she added 2 separate wet bars, 3 super sleek marble fireplaces, bragged about some super high-end tile flooring throughout, and a massive double-oven. Again, things they did not ask for.
I just find it interesting how funds are determined and where money is spent versus things the homeowner actually asked for.
End rant. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Would anyone have Love It Or List It Australia every episode by any chance thanks.
I really like this show and I’ve read that they record both endings etc. I don’t care if the format is faked. But if David found them the perfect house, could they actually buy it or they just deciding if they will list it in general? I mean you can’t really have two home loans at the same time, and if you pay for a renovation, are you really gonna have a down payment and closing costs?
Am I the only one disturbed when the owners are shown a house and it's obvious that there is an HOA that is NEVER MENTIONED.
I've watched every episode of LIOLI and have moved on to LIOLI Too. Some observations and rhetorical questions about things that annoy me:
-
The difference in budgets between these two shows cannot be ignored. Oftentimes, the budgets never broke $100k on LIOLI and were almost ALWAYS $100k+ on LIOLI Too. Is it that much more expensive to do renos in Canada?
-
Why can't Hillary and Jillian stay within budget? Why does Jillian need to source custom dining tables handcrafted by local monks, and why does Hillary need to provide the highest-end finishes in the kitchen? If I were the homeowner and one of the designers said they didn't have any money left in the budget because of mold, I'd tell them to put in an IKEA kitchen and finish my ensuite.
-
I know this is scripted. Do you think that the homeowners and designers added things to the "list" that they knew they couldn't afford?
-
I'm growing tired of these shows because of the formulaic nature. Are there other locations/versions that are a bit more realistic?

I'm fairly new to the game (thoroughly enjoying it) and I've just recently got my first new free freighter (A Class Sentinel Dread I think?) and then accidentally triggered the Pirate Dreadnought event and now have the option to switch to a S Class Pirate Dreadnought. See the image. Would you swap or keep? Love it or list it? Advice welcome!

Im watching the most recent season on Discovery+, looks like mainly metropolitan Canada area so Vancouver? Toronto? It’s crazy! Does anyone remember that show Million Dollar Listings? That should just be titled Single Family Home now
I really enjoy this show BUT can it go back to the concept from the first season where the couple wasn’t unrealistically at odds over staying or going? I find it more enjoyable when a couple is undecided and while one may want to stay a little more than the other, couples that disagree to this extreme just aren’t entertaining. I imagine the “writers” trying to come up with quips and banter to put the couple at odds. If me and my wife disagreed this strongly one of us should probably move!
Also, how can Hometown remodel an entire house for $70,000 yet you give Hilary over $100,000 and she comes back with an old shoe? Her designs are beautiful, but most of that money goes to her purse collection.
Finally, David rocks!

Can Neale do a sensitive renovation where the spaces of this Queensland family home can creatively connect, or will Andrew find Brett and Anita something way better?

Just an appreciation post for Love It or List it Australia for any original HGTV fans. After striking out on the Vancouver show, I decided to watch the AUS version and it just seems so much more genuine than any of the other shows. Just watched S4E1 and nothing catastrophic happened with the renovation! (Shocking!) Instead, the time was used by the host including the couple in interior design decisions, which was really nice.
I don’t know if they fake anything like the original series does, but I’ll definitely be watching!
Did anyone watch last night's new episode of Love It or List It? I'm a huge fan of Hilary and David so I love the show. But last night's homeowners were getting on my last nerve. Why did they need to have two kitchens in their house? And when the wife called one of the big walk in closets David showed her "cute" I was laughing. My closet is the size of a small shower stall. Apparently the next batch of episodes after these new ones will be back in Toronto and I can't wait to see some much smaller homes get renovated again! I'm tired of these 10,000 square foot mansions lol
Hillary designed her own house in this episode. It is the most exquisite design I’ve seen. Just stunning.
I know it's staged. I'm sitting down for the first time to binge watch it and this is something I've noticed. Everything is "out of budget" when a "crisis" pops up so dramatically. Yet Hilary continues to buy some of the most expensive wallpapers, chandeliers, flooring, counter tops, appliances etc. I'd be truly pissed off if I were 50% of these homeowners knowing some of the cost could've been cut if Hilary's tastes weren't so expensive.
