This subreddit is a place to talk about all things LEGO games! From TT Games' big IP collect-a-thons like LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga to new unique LEGO games takes like LEGO 2K Drive. There are no limits to how you build, play, and discuss here!
A couple months ago, a bunch of classic LEGO×TT Games were on sale on the Xbox Marketplace for 5$ or less per title. Having played and enjoyed many of the games on multiple different gaming consoles, I purchased a few of the games which I had missed along the way.
This got me thinking — how many of these old games are still playable on a modern gaming console like my Xbox Series X? It turns out, basically all of them, but with a few caveats... This led me down a deep rabbit-hole, including a lot of research here at , on , Wikipedia, and around the web.
The result of all this digging is an article I just published that tries to consolidate all of this information into an easily digestible guide for folks who want to revisit some, or all, of these classic games! I do think folks here will find it both interesting and useful, and I also want to hear your thoughts and feedback!
LINK:
In case you do not want to read the whole article, here are a few of the main highlights:
-
You really can play all the games on the latest Xbox Hardware, so long as you have the series X model that has a DVD Drive.
-
You can't play the original versions of LEGO Star Wars 1/2 or the original LEGO Harry Potter games, but you can play the remastered versions of both, which are nearly identical apart from improved graphics.
-
There are two titles which you can only play with a disk-based copy: Lord of the Rings (which I love) and LEGO Dimensions.
-
You can also play most of these games on a Windows PC or Steam Deck, but LEGO Dimensions is a console exclusive.
-
Other consoles like Playstation or Switch are great, but they have much more limited backwards compatibility.
I also geeked out on how well the LEGO×TT games give us a window into the transition periods when new gaming consoles are introduced. As you can see in this photo, there is a key period right after a new console is released where games are available for both the new and older system. This sems to be about 4 years after the new hardware is released.
I hope you found interesting and useful, and genuinely appreciate feedback of any kind! I am also working on a follow-up article that reflects on the series as a whole, offering more editorial perspective on the best and worst games in the series (acknowledging that even that is subjective).
I also hope to highlight some of the ways that the evolution of LEGO toys influenced the LEGO games, and more importantly, how the LEGO games influenced the LEGO toy products. In particular, I would love to highlight some key examples of a minifigure which appeared in video games but was later included in a physical LEGO set.
Sincerely,
—Tom Alphin,

The current date is May 22nd, 2024. This Capsule will be 'opened' and revisited on May 22nd, 2029
What is this?
This is the 'time capsule'. A way for users of the subreddit to digitally write down their own thoughts and ideas of what gaming might look like in five years time. When the five years are up, the time capsule is then posted on to the subreddit so people can see what types of predictions people had about gaming half a decade later. It's a fun way to 'write messages to people in the future', and to have a look at the past.
What are your expectations for gaming in the year 2029? What types of predictions do you have, what messages for people five years from now? Some things to keep in mind:
-
The consoles as of now mainly consist of the Playstation 5, Xbox Series X, and the Nintendo Switch (with its successor planned to be announced later this year). There's also 'lite' variants of the Series X and Switch.
-
The Nintendo Switch in March 2017 (seven years ago) The PS5 and Xbox Series X in November 2020 (three and a half years ago).
-
In the last few years Microsoft has acquired ZeniMax Media (Bethesda) and Activision Blizzard, whilst Sony has acquired Bungie.
Some questions/notes to give you some ideas:
-
When will the next Playstation and Xbox consoles release?
-
Will Sony or Microsoft try to direct with the Nintendo Switches form factor (Portable or docked)? If so, will that release within the next five years?
-
Are there any titles that were announced in the past few years that you think still would not have been released in five years time?
-
How many franchises that are active today will have begun to fade?
Then there's the state of gaming:
-
How will monetization evolve in the gaming industry in five years? What MTX practices will grow, and what MTX practices will fade? Will $70 (USD) games be the norm?
-
How will the industry look, in terms of acquisitions, downsizing, and mergers? Will the current big players in gaming grow, stay relatively the same size, or shrink?
-
Will VR become more popular and accessible? Will AR?
-
Where do you think game companies that are popular today will be in five years?

Nintendo is a game company that has been a part of my childhood, but I didn't know it until now. Okay, it may sound like I am delusional, but I am not. Read further.
I am from India, and as some of you may know, Nintendo exited the Indian market in the 90s, long before I was born. During its presence in India, Nintendo launched all of its famous consoles up to the Game Boy, but the sales numbers weren't that great compared to the rest of the world. There were many issues; you can search online. One of the main issues was the affordability of games and consoles. So, back then, if you wanted to play Nintendo games, there were only two options: 1. Game Cafes, and 2. Cheap knock-offs of NES and Game Boy consoles. The games were the same; they just used different designs for the consoles. Additionally, since Nintendo had exited the market, there were no copyright issues.
I got my first taste of Nintendo through knock-offs in the early 2000s (I know, decades late). Like me, most 90s kids in India played on these cheap consoles while the world was moving toward the N64 and PlayStation. After Nintendo's exit, there was a gap in the console gaming market, and no other companies showed interest until Sony decided to launch the PlayStation 2 in India. During that buffer period, these knock-offs became very popular. I received one as a gift from my uncle, and the very first game I played was Super Mario Bros. with my sister. It was so special for me—those tunes, those mechanics, and the local multiplayer. It was my first time playing a video game, but I never completed it due to the huge game library of Nintendo titles. I played many games, some of my favorites being Duck Hunt, Contra, Track & Field, The Legend of Zelda, and many more, but I never had the curiosity to find out who made those games.
During that buffer period, many Indian gamers moved to PC to play more advanced 3D games, and consoles became less popular in India even though Sony and Xbox were simultaneously releasing new iterations. One reason for this is piracy and emulation, which became very prominent in India due to its ease on PC. Slowly, this became a norm in the Indian gaming community. I remember visiting gaming stores to buy pirated CDs of GTA and Call of Duty. At that time, I didn't know I was buying pirated games; I thought that was how games were sold. But it became clear with age. Nonetheless, I played a lot of PC games and started buying games from Steam, as I liked my games to be updated and risk-free.
Coming to the present, I am an avid PC gamer, and I have also played many console titles thanks to cloud gaming. But I always missed Mario and Zelda because of their simplicity and pure joy. I never knew these games were made by Nintendo. The first time I heard of Nintendo was during a visit to a console shop, where I first saw the Nintendo Switch in a red box. Of course, it was imported, and the price was sky-high. For me, it was equivalent to a mobile phone, and I thought Nintendo was a Chinese company. I showed no interest and moved on with my PC gaming, never thinking about it again. One reason I showed no interest was that none of my friends had heard about them, and there was no active discussion about Nintendo games in the Indian gaming community at large. Most of our discussions were about Xbox and PlayStation.
But in March 2024, I came across MrWhoseTheBoss's YouTube video on Nintendo, where he explained every bit about Nintendo and its console generations. From there, I took an interest and researched a lot about this company. Then I discovered that my favorite childhood games were in fact made by Nintendo. Even through the years, the company has made a lot of Mario and Zelda games. I was amazed. I then watched the new Mario movie (which I loved). It was like reconnecting with a long-lost friend whose name I never knew. I saw gameplays of many Nintendo games, one of which stood out was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I had heard about this game before but never bothered to know more. At first, I thought it must be available on PC, but to my surprise it was a console exclusive for the Nintendo Switch. After seeing all the features of the Switch, its various models, and the game pricing, I decided to buy a Nintendo Switch Lite. I wanted to try handheld gaming first, and also with the Nintendo Switch 2 in line for next year, I decided to play it safe and bought cheapest console first.
I got my new purplish-blue Nintendo Switch Lite a week ago, and after using it, I regret not coming across Nintendo sooner. I loved it so much. I tried some first-party game demos like Pikmin, Kirby, Yoshi, Captain Toad, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong. I loved them all. I had never played these games or their previous iterations before. Finally, I decided to keep the Switch Lite and buy my first games: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. They are coming today (26/5/2024), and I am very excited. Out of this excitement, I am writing this huge story. Sorry if it was lengthy.
I am very happy to join the Nintendo community at last. I will play on my Lite this whole year (huge game backlog) & also I will complete Super Mario bros & the first Zelda until the Nintendo Switch 2 comes out. I hope it will be backwards compatible.
Thank you for reading. Have a nice day!
Ps : Can you suggest some other nintendo titles ? PS : I got both games & I am now enjoying a heck out of breath of the wild 4 hours + , still on the Great plateau. Still learning game mechanics & ways to kill bokoblin. Truly feeling like a child 😍

Oi people!
My name is Ariel, and I'm a solo developer from Poland. I've created a cute puzzler with great animations called Please Fix The Road. It has reached over 25,000 players on PC (Steam and GOG), and now it has also been released digitally a week ago on the Nintendo Switch, along with its console cousins Xbox and Playstation, with help from a publisher. I've always dreamed of having a game on consoles, and I still hope that one day I'll see a game I made in a physical box on a shelf.
A long time ago, I used to create Flash games for a little money. Recently, I had a strong urge to create a game again simply for fun, and the unexpected success made me reconsider a solo game development career. I'm hopeful of releasing the current game I'm working on next or this year.

I've just bought a brand new Xperia 5 iv, after struggling to find an afforfable one. So I can still say that I will continue the tradition of using just Sony phones, now that their tablets and Vaio PC's are long gone (sigh), and Xperias aren't sold anymore in Spain.
My fidelity to Sony devices comes from my gratitude for their staunch support to the 80's MSX computer. I like to imagine that the Xperias are a natural continuation of the MSX, a computer that never succeeded in the US or the UK anyway. If you want to know what the origins of Sony in the gaming industry were, just google Sony MSX and you may understand my devotion. They developed such beautiful, classy MSX computers back then, aside their own home computer, named SMC. They even hired celebrities to advertise their products, like Seiko Matsuda. Sony published so many games, peripherals, apps, educational programs, etc, in Spain back then. All under the MSX brand, a 8-bit computer standard that tried to predate IBM as the first worldwide compatible computer.
The MSX is an unforgettable machine whose experience surely was useful to Sony in order to lead the gaming industry with their Playstation, so this console series didn't come from nowhere.
Those were the days.

I have had this project in mind for a few years but the amount of time it would take was daunting. I finally found the time to get started and hope this gives people who are not "gamers" the ability to enjoy this game.
In the first season of "Spider-Man," Peter Parker, a 23-year-old college graduate and research assistant, balances his personal and superhero life in New York City. When the sinister Inner Demons gang threatens the city under the leadership of Mister Negative, Peter must confront his personal struggles while fighting crime. With allies like Mary Jane Watson and Miles Morales, Spider-Man unravels a conspiracy to save the city. In this action-packed adventure, Spider-Man battles villains, navigates personal struggles, and confronts a conspiracy to save New York City.
Before I get into the changelist I want to give a special thanks to for creating a custom title graphic for me.
Changelist:
Season 1 focuses on the first game and consists of 10 episodes.
Created a custom intro sequence using a combination of trailers for the game.
Used the Remastered credits for every episode along with some customization.
Used Andy Gilleand’s “[HDR Version] Marvel's Spider-man (The Movie)” from YouTube as the base. I created a custom title logo for him as well since he doesn’t have one using “Your Intro” by Audionautix.
Used QuartersAlpha (Monkey Tech Global), Throneful and Epic Game Clips walkthrough and cutscene videos for any shots showing significant changes between games (Peter’s face, Miles’ spider, etc).
EPISODE 1: Something Old, Something New - This episode starts at the beginning of the game and goes until after Peter receives his new suit.
EPISODE 2: A Shocking Comeback - This episode starts with May at F.E.A.S.T. and goes until after peter talks to Li.
EPISODE 3: A Day to Remember - This episode starts after Peter talks to Li and goes until after Peter gets evicted.
EPISODE 4: And the Award Goes to… - This episode starts with Peter waking up on May’s couch and goes until after Officer Davis is killed.
EPISODE 5: A Fresh Start – This episode starts with Officer Davis’ funeral and goes until after Peter and MJ’s date.
EPISODE 6: Back to School – This episode starts with Spider-Man saving Charles Standish and goes until after Otto talks to Peter about his illness.
EPISODE 7: First Day – This episode starts with Miles getting bullied and goes until after Martin gets arrested.
EPISODE 8: Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire - This episode starts with Dock’s breakthrough and goes until after Spider-Man falls asleep on the roof.
EPISODE 9: Streets of Poison - This episode starts with Spider-Man waking up and goes until after Spider-Man drops MJ off at F.E.A.S.T.
EPISODE 10: The Heart of the Matter - This episode starts with Li kidnapping Norman and then completes the game. (PS- WATCH THE CREDITS)

Since there seems to be no place to review them I figured I'd post this for anyone looking for info on it. You pay $10 to get in and for that you get a drink ticket and unlimited playtime until close. Their drink selection was rather limited, some liquor with mixers, Modelo, Pabst, and Miller High Life (all short cans). The beer was $5. They also had alcoholic seltzers.
As for the games; they have a handful of original arcade cabinets like donkey kong, frogger, as well as some racing arcade games. They also have several of the newer emulation cabinets of games like Terminator and NBA Jam. I would say in total it was something like 15 total arcade cabinets. They also have tvs with emulator consoles like sega, playstation and super nintendo loaded up with lots of games. I hear they plan on getting a couple pinball tables so that would be exciting.
Overall I'm interested to see where they go with this. When I heard the $10 cover thing I was a bit put off but there were some positives: it wasn't very crowded and you got a drink ticket which made it more like $5 for unlimited play.
Things I think would make it much more enjoyable and may or may not be on the horizon:
-
Bigger drink selection. You already have a cooler built in behind the serving area, it would not be terribly hard to get 4 or 5 beers on tap with the existing system. Not even having an ipa was a bit of a shock to me but this is like week one or two so I imagine things are going to change.
-
Pinball. Personally, when I think of a barcade I immediately just want to play like 10 different pinball tables. The problem is that when you have unlimited play you're going to get people sitting at those tables for hours because that's just how pinball goes.
-
Personally I don't mind the emulator cabinets but there is a little bit of cheapness to them. If the business model is to continue doing the unlimited play I don't have any issue because they're cheap enough to replace if they get broken and aren't high maintenance because they're mostly just a cheap computer inside.
-
They desperately need to build in somewhere to set your drinks. Everyone around me was setting their drinks on the slanted area with the joysticks and buttons which is a recipe for electrical disaster. Most of the barcades I've been to have little drink baskets hanging off the machines which solves this.

Recommended Scanning Instructions for Best Result:
While following these recommended scanning steps will give you the highest quality scans, the most important thing is to get the manuals digitized. Even if you can't follow all the optimal practices, don't let that stop you from scanning the manuals in whatever way works for you. Having a scanned copy is better than not having one at all.
-
Set the scanner to 24-bit color or 16-bit grayscale at 600 dpi resolution, and scan as TIFF files. This will give you better quality images with fewer artifacts compared to JPG or PDF formats.
-
Place a book or something heavy on top of the scanner to keep pages flat against the scanner glass. This will prevent the area near the spine from being out of focus.
-
Make sure the pages are not too close to the edge of the scanner glass. Leave a small gap (around 1/8 inch) to avoid cutting off page numbers or content.
-
Test a few scans to determine the exact edge where content may get cropped off by your scanner.
-
Remove the staples from the manuals before scanning.

Initial plea for assistance from K1rkl4nd:
Note: Scanning manuals is a time-consuming task, and editing them post-scan is necessary. Even after gathering all the manuals, processing and publishing them will take some time. The plan is to release all the scans simultaneously for a complete and organized archive. The primary goal of the collection is to gather manuals for NTSC games, with a secondary goal of collecting manuals for games not released in the NTSC region.
K1rkl4nd's collection stands as a testament to dedication and passion, encompassing all well-known manuals that are freely available online. This monumental effort has spanned 25 years, highlighting his unwavering commitment to preserving gaming history. While numerous collectors have emerged over the years with intentions to scan and publish their collections, all of these initiatives have unfortunately faded away.
In rare cases, K1rkl4nd might potentially accept financial donations for the purpose of acquiring the missing manuals. Personally, I consider it important to mention this information; however, K1rkl4nd has never publicly solicited financial donations, nor will he organize a public fundraising campaign for this purpose. The goal of this post is to bring attention to this project and reach out to collectors who own these games and are willing to share their manuals.

Before we begin with the TWID, we wanted to let you all know that earlier today, a portion of Destiny 2: The Final Shape was accidentally pushed live on PS5's streaming service. There are currently spoilers being shared online. A small group of players were able to play some of the campaign, access Collections, and other reward info coming in The Final Shape and Echoes. We recommend being very careful on social media over the next few days to avoid spoilers. Remember to exercise caution and be critical of potential misinformation. Please be considerate of others and report leaks so players can experience the conclusion of the Light and Darkness saga themselves.
Thanks to all our community members who have already helped us by reporting leaks and those actively working to prevent more of the experience from being shared before its intended date. It's always extremely difficult when our team's hard work is leaked early, but we are still excited for everyone to experience the full release on June 4 together.
Now on to your regularly scheduled TWID.
This week in Destiny, we’re just days away from The Final Shape. Are you ready? Did you get all the gear you were aiming for? We hope so! And while we can’t give you any drops you may be missing, we can give you information on the new Artifact perks so you can start fine-tuning your perfect build.

Destiny 2 x Dungeons & Dragons Collaboration
We’re thrilled to announce Bungie’s latest collaboration with Wizards of the Coast, and the iconic gaming franchise, Dungeons & Dragons, as Wizards celebrates the 50th anniversary of D&D. Faerûn-inspired looks will be available at the Eververse store on June 4, alongside the launch of Destiny 2: The Final Shape. The Gold Dragon-themed Apex Draconic set for Titans, the Mind Flayers-themed Flayer’s Dominion set for Warlocks, and the Displacer Beast’s-themed Spectral Displacer set for Hunters.
Additionally, the Adventurer’s Pack Bundle will include a Queen of Dragons ship, the Owlbear Chariot, and the Eye Tyrant Ghost Shell. More cosmetics include the Bigby’s Fist Finisher and the Natural 20 Emote, which will be randomly rolled each time it’s used, as the fates designed.
In addition to the in-game items, the Bungie Store will also be offering an Eye Tyrant Beholder Ghost Shell vinyl figure, inspired by the infamous floating gaze monster from the D&D universe.
The Final Shape Artifact Preview
With The Final Shape right around the corner, we wanted to give you an early look at the Artifact perks you can expect on launch day and throughout Echoes. The three elements in focus for this Artifact are Solar, Void, and Arc. You'll also find a focus on melee and Swords as well as long-range weapons, such as Sniper Rifles.

Salvation’s Edge World First Race Details
On June 7 at 10 AM PT, brave fireteams will look to become the first to complete the new raid and take home the coveted World First belt. We have some key details to help in your planning, including requirements for raid entry and updates to the World First race completion criteria.
Details
-
Contest Mode will be enabled for 48 hours.
-
You will need to be at 1965 Power Level to be at the cap through all of the encounters.
Entry Requirements
-
Completing The Final Shape campaign and the Wild Card Exotic quest is a requirement to launch the raid, but only the fireteam leader must meet this requirement. A fair warning for any members of a fireteam who do not complete The Final Shape campaign before jumping into Salvation’s Edge—the raid contains spoilers.
Completion Criteria
-
We have changed the way we will track and recognize the World First completion of the raid. Fireteams will no longer be required to return to orbit to finish the race. The first fireteam to finish every encounter and loot the final chest will be declared World First and have their victory immortalized with Salvations’ Edge World First raid belts.
Similar to Crota’s End, we will be working to quickly check with analytics before we announce the winning team on our social channels and will then start our more thorough security review. We don’t want to make everyone wait around while we dig into this data, but if we do find that any cheating or violations have occurred, we reserve the right to disqualify a team and crown the next fireteam in line World First, even after an announcement.
For full details on eligibility and requirements for the World First race, please visit our .
We encourage all players to complete The Final Shape campaign and Wild Card Exotic quest prior to the launch of Salvation’s Edge to have the best story experience possible.
