How are people managing to pay bills with massive layoffs and horrible market? How are people managing to pay bills with massive layoffs and horrible market?
Experienced

I saw someone post that they got layoff in October and haven’t found a job still. I know that is the situation for many people in this terrible time. This is very scary for someone with bills and mortgage or a family to take care. How are people managing this? I can’t imagine any emergency fund lasting that long without an income. What’s your contingency plan? Do people have temporary non-dev jobs to not end up homeless, get state unemployment benefits?

Are the days of tech stack agnostic hiring gone? Are the days of tech stack agnostic hiring gone?
Experienced

I have 1 year of experience and been on the lookout for a switch lately. Most postings I come across require having prior experience on their particular tech stack. It does not seem to matter that the work I have been doing is exactly what the job needs, just that I use a different language and framework to achieve the same thing. Honestly, I could bridge the gap within the first month when no one expects anything of me anyway. Funny thing is, I have actually gotten an interview for a role that is a bit different from my current one but since I have experience in the language they use, I was shortlisted lol. This is a shift from what I have heard from my seniors, they said that nature of work, dsa proficiency/problem solving skills and even college mattered more than the tech stack.

Have you all also faced the same or is it just me? Any reason why this could be happening? Maybe because companies feel like they will waste time and effort in training the employee in a new language? Anyway, I would like to hear from you all!
