Anyone else watch horror to make life less horrific?

Lol but for real. Life is just a dumpster fire of struggle, let downs & betrayal. I love watching horror because of the way it plays on all these themes, but also makes life seem much sunnier & hopeful in comparison after a good scare fest session.

I know some of you have charmed lives, and all is good, but some of us have lives that could be a horror film, it’s just drawn out excruciatingly long lol.

Abigail 2024

Just watched this and though I didn't find it scary in any way what I did appreciate was the way the film gives a new take on what happens to them when exposed to light or a wooden stake. The way it was done was brilliant and something completely fresh. I'd watch it again just for this.

Also the child actor who played Abigail was very good. I especially like the fight scene showdown with the two characters towards the end of the film. I read she leant ballet for the role.

I'm deliberately being vague because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Who is your favorite devil in a movie?

My #1 pick would have to be Vigo Mortensen in the Prophecy (1995} his portayal is both suave and creepy at the same time, even though he's only in the last bit of the movie he still manages to make a lasting impression.

My runner-up would have to be Robert De Niro in Angel Heart (1987). De Niro at his peak and just an all around excelent movie.

Pornographic horror movies

Pornographic horror movies are very rare nowadays. They were only somewhat common in the ‘70s and ‘80s.

I don’t mean porn parodies of horror movies but rather actual horror movies with pornographic scenes are very rare nowadays.

Here’s a list of recommendations from this rare horror subgenre. Feel free to add additional recommendations:

  • Emanuelle in America (1977)

  • Lorna the exorcist (1974)

  • A woman’s torment (1977)

  • Thriller : A cruel picture (1974)

  • Nightdreams (1981)

  • through the looking glass (1976)

  • Corruption (1983)

  • The Fireworks Woman (1975)

  • The perverse countess (1974)

  • Giallo in Venice (1979)

  • Malabimba (1979)

  • The sinful Dwarf (1973)

  • Widow Blue! (1970)

  • SexWorld (1978)

Edit:

When I say “pornographic” I don’t mean commenting about porn (like X) or soft core (like most sleazy American slashers), I mean visible unsimulated sex where a penis or body part visibly enters an orifice.

I found a Letterboxd list for more examples:

What was it like seeing the original Scream in theaters?

What was it like seeing the original Scream in theaters?

I’ve heard several accounts from ppl who saw the first Scream in theaters, so I’ve decided to ask those lucky enough to see it on the big screen.

One thing I always hear is that the opening and big reveal were so shocking to audiences when it first came out. There was truly nothing like Scream back in 1996, and I hear it was so popular that it stayed in theaters for a whole year and everybody was talking about it.

One account I’ve heard is that there was an audible gasp when the big reveal came up, and that audiences were absolutely stunned at the infamous opening scene, considering how popular Drew Barrymore was at the time.

I’m honestly curious to hear the stories from people who were alive to see the 1996 original when it first hit cinemas.
