Considering there’s only 9 episodes I’m calling BS on this one

[–]Henson_Disney48 Korg 515 points516 points  (63 children)

She Hulk gets 9 episodes?? Loki, Moon Knight and Ms Marvel only got 6!

[–]CityHog 449 points450 points  (35 children)

They are only 20-30 minutes or so each though. So its a fair balance

[–]MerryTragic 196 points197 points  (4 children)

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

[–]Shaquandala 36 points37 points  (28 children)

Fair balance? You mean not enough look at ms marvel faltering heavily because they can't let the sptry breathe since we only have 6 episodes

[–]gyutop 136 points137 points  (15 children)

I want to understand this comment but I genuinely can’t figure out what “sptry” was supposed to be written as

[–]Blipp17 26 points27 points  (1 child)

They do six for ~45 minute shows and 9 for ~30 minute shows. WV was 9 just like She-Hulk. I agree, six is not enough for what they're trying to do, but it's not a new thing just for She-Hulk.

[–]DragoniteJeff 81 points82 points  (7 children)

You guys got episodes? - M.O.D.A.K.

[–]TheCornbeef 62 points63 points  (6 children)

Who are you? -M.O.D.O.K.

[–]dudemann 19 points20 points  (5 children)

M.O.D.A.K., the leader of E.I.M. (the organization that provides science and tech for HIDRA).

[–]CrimKayser 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Every show has the same runtime. Regardless of episodes.

[–]Alastor3 18 points19 points  (0 children)

it's the same amount if screentime but it's supposed to represent more of a sitcom-like show, that's why it's 9 episodes

[–]Magmaster12 116 points117 points  (14 children)

The only thing plausible about this is the fact that Jason Segal is Jewish like Ben Grimm.

[–]pluscuamperfect 39 points40 points  (10 children)

And he is the same age than Krasinski if they keep him (which is not sure, I know).

[–]VanvanZandt 31 points32 points  (6 children)

I don't think that matters much for a character that's mostly done in cgi.

[–]pluscuamperfect 29 points30 points  (3 children)

Well if they wanna leave open the possibility to show Ben in his human form (either in flashbacks, within dreams/alternate realities, etc) it would mind. Given the relevance for the character I would keep the duality possible.

But yeah if it’s going to be full CGI every second of screentime it doesn’t matter who they cast. Can even be Brolin again.

[–]NoCapNova99 75 points76 points  (2 children)

Wasnt there originally 10 though but they cut it down to 9 or am I buggin?

[–]deeninetysix 67 points68 points  (1 child)

You are correct. Not sure if they just changed the structure around so we get 9 slightly longer episodes instead of 10 slightly shorter ones, or if they just lopped off an episode’s worth of story, though.

[–]MCUFANzzz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In the case of WandaVision they added the tenth episode's minutes where they needed them more... it's streaming they can get creative with their time

[–]TheCVR123YT 60 points61 points  (2 children)

Campea mentioned way back when he accidentally leaked that NWH stuff that he saw a Mocap photo for a character that he assumed was for NWH. Perhaps this is legit man

[–]SharpieKing69 41 points42 points  (7 children)

My main reservation with this is it seems too silly, narratively. It would seem odd for him to exist as The Thing and not be mentioned before now. Especially given the Fantastic 4 tend to be famous.

[–]TheCVR123YT 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This show in general seems to be very silly so we shall see I guess

[–]MsSara77 18 points19 points  (2 children)

I'm pressing X

[–]solarsilversurfer 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Double or triple stacks? And with which Marvel hero’s logo… aw fuck it I’ll take a hundred either way.

[–]magikarpcatcherPelvic Sorcery 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I am not saying this is 100% true, but they started out by saying "last 3 episodes". Maybe they thought it was still 10 episodes (as originally announced) which is why they ep 8, 9 and 10.

[–]Realistic-Nature3787 Iron Man Mk 85 614 points615 points  (118 children)

wild way to introduce that character would prefer it in f4 movie tbh

[–][deleted] 302 points303 points  (67 children)

If this is true, this is incredible though. It’s unexpected and finally the Fantastic Four! What is the size of this budget for this show!??!

[–]Unnecessary_Fella Mighty Thor 233 points234 points  (64 children)

It's also dumb to introduce him as the Thing before the Fantastic Four film.

And I know someone will mention Multiverse of Madness, but that was a Reed Richards from another universe.

Edit: OKAY HOLY SHIT I GET IT r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers we don't need an origin story. Stfu already.

[–]MooreThird 207 points208 points  (15 children)

I don't see why not. Slowly introducing some heroes like Thing as cameos or guests before their major appearance on a bigger movie is a great way to hype up audiences.

This could also be a prototype on how to slowly introduce prolific C-list mutants and other Marvel characters before a major X-Men movie.

[–]TheApathyParty2 54 points55 points  (2 children)

That’s basically what they did with Spider-Man and Black Panther in Civil War. No origin story, they’re just there. Look how well that turned out.

Also Billy and Tommy in WandaVision, to a certain extent.

[–]magicwithakick 40 points41 points  (8 children)

I mean I doubt F4 will be an origin film. I think it would be pretty cool.

[–]Mau752005 26 points27 points  (3 children)

yeah I think that it really shouldn't be an origin film, everyone knows who the FF are, but the fox movies were either decent or straight up awful, and their role was hugely reduced in the comics for quite a while, so I think that what's really important here is to make everyone remember why they are so iconic, I would rather see a movie about the FF at their best instead of yet another origin story

[–]Leave1942 Thor 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Everyone does not know who the Fantastic Four are haha.

[–]gilestowler 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering if they could be introduced in GOTG3. They'll be up in space anyway. Maybe in a show or film before then it could be mentioned that the "Reed team" was lost in space. Then they could show up, even in just a post credit scene, to lead into the F4 film. On the other hand, instead of being lost in space they could be getting up to some shenanigans in the quantum realm and show up in Ant Man. I think their origin will be covered but very briefly.

[–]lastkid13 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree--as much as I love the Thing and think these interactions sound cool, I feel like it would raise all of the questions that the proper FF movie would want to answer-- I get the sense that the MCU wants to honor their "first family" title in some way, and it feels anti-climactic to introduce one member of one team that hasn't had any evidence of existing before. It'd be lacking a bit of pathos

[–]0zer0zer0 Daredevil 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I think it would be cool and acting casual about it would make the mcu feel a lot more of a sprawling world.

[–]Spidermaryjane 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I mean she hulk is a character that is very very linked to the fantastic four I mean she literally took the things spot for a good hunk of the 80s So it’s really not that random

[–][deleted] 64 points65 points  (35 children)

I mean, it just reenforces my belief that F4 is the Avenger film this Phase. Reed in MoM, Ben in She-Hulk, Doom in WF, and Sue and Johnny in something else. All crossing over in F4.

[–]Spiderlander Spider-Man 46 points47 points  (14 children)

But it doesn't make sense for them to all "come together" in their first film, because the F4 are literally a package deal 😭

[–]idClip42 Mysterio 29 points30 points  (3 children)

I keep seeing this being worded as "doing it like the Avengers", and that does rub me the wrong way, so I understand where you're coming from. But that's semantics more than anything else. I don't think anyone is suggesting that the characters "meet" like the Avengers did.

They can be a family unit who's members we happen to bump into randomly during other movies or shows. The FF movie will be the first time we see them all together, but their status as a family will never be in doubt. This seems more or less fine to me, all things considered.

[–]eggylettuce 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Could be an Umbrella Academy situation where the F4 all previously knew one another and did "family missions" but something terrible happened leading to a big schism; they then reconnect during the events of the F4 (202?) movie and end said event as a team once again.

[–]Danishroyalty 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Maybe they're just gonna slowly introduce the F4 in other projects. Reed in DS2. Ben in She-Hulk. Next up, Johnny in Ant-Man and Sue in Secret Invasion.

[–]10thDoctorHairGel 28 points29 points  (3 children)

Yeah, but weighing an F4 movie down with a bunch of intros doesn’t need to happen to make their debut good. Focusing separately on how the changes affected everyone on the squad is often where F4 is best. The whole “Ben can be a human again for a day or two every year” arc was great. The F4 are at their best and worst when considered without their talents. The end of Hickman’s Secret Wars is inevitably going to be the end of this version of the MCU. A new snap and a new reality, just different, but all because Reed and Doom just HAD TO prove each other wrong. If Molecule Man shows up soon I’m pretty sure the end is nigh.

[–]Johnny_Mc2 19 points20 points  (2 children)

I really think Charlie Day would be the best Molecule Man

[–]guynamedcrystal 370 points371 points  (52 children)

If true, I like they're staying true to Ben's heritage by have a Jewish actor playing him

[–]PrincessLeiasBra 248 points249 points  (37 children)

Considering how important Ben's Judaism is to his character, I feel like they have to cast a Jewish actor.

I personally can't wait for the inevitable D+ Yancy Street Hanukkah special.

[–]Mystic__Mayhem Hawkeye 111 points112 points  (17 children)

Finally someone agrees with me, I've always felt that if the character has importance to their roots such as Ben's Jewisim or Doom's Roma inheritance they should be played by someone with that descent, whenever I've said this I've been downvoted for it.

[–]tylerjb223 Green Goblin 41 points42 points  (2 children)

Yeah there’s hardly any Jewish representation in the MCU and I hope to god they keep that connection to Magneto. Its such a rich facet to his character and makes him all the more compelling and at certain times understandable.

[–]NightmareDJK 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Oscar Isaac is half Jewish (went to Jewish schools growing up) and he played Moon Knight.

[–]JenniferJuniper6 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Judaism, or perhaps Jewishness, or even just “Ben being Jewish” would be better phrasing than Jewisim (which isn’t even a word) in my opinion.

[–]broganisms 62 points63 points  (6 children)

It was important to the character in 2015 but that didn't stop the last film from naming a bacon cheeseburger after him as a promotional tie-in.

[–]JenniferJuniper6 20 points21 points  (2 children)

We don’t all keep kosher, you know.

[–]MrBubbles9039 Swordsman 21 points22 points  (1 child)

marc’s judaism is important to him as a character and they cast isaac so i wouldn’t have been surprised but i hope that’s not the case again!

[–]Exra_ Homemade Spider-Man 13 points14 points  (1 child)

A marvel Hanukkah special would be a beautiful shit show. Now I want to see one

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points  (4 children)

Really happy about that, I know a lot of people have had a lot of fair complaints about some MCU castings (Wanda, Moon Knight) and it's good to see that they may be taking more consideration about these things. Hopefully this will apply to Dr Doom as well.

[–]theodo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People complained about Oscar Isaac?

[–]PortuguesePede 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Negative Zone wasn't in the movie, the Negative Zone was the movie.

[–]joepanda111 14 points15 points  (1 child)

But wouldn’t you rather Ben Grimm be played by Dwayne the Rock Johnson, in a tight grey t-shirt, in some jungle setting?

[–]mario_s133 305 points306 points  (40 children)

Is this the mocap character that John campea was talking about ?

[–]neilsharris 195 points196 points  (17 children)

I just said the same thing, but I’ll delete my comment. Does this mean The Thing will be a Muppet? 😂

Interesting, his father is Jewish, so I am sure this will make a few people happy.

[–]Aaron-JH 113 points114 points  (5 children)

A very manly muppet.

[–]Metfan722 Homemade Spider-Man 68 points69 points  (4 children)

Or is he a muppet of a man?

[–]Padmes-Naboobies 39 points40 points  (0 children)

(a muppet of a mannn)

[–]tehawesomedragon 35 points36 points  (1 child)

Honestly now that you mention it I can totally see him getting this role considering his experience with this kinda thing. Sorta like how it's convenient to have Gollum direct Venom 2.

[–]neilsharris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly, plus he as a relationship with Disney already. Btw, “this kind of thing” is brilliant. 😂

[–]whatnameisnttaken098 22 points23 points  (6 children)

The Thing will be a Muppet?

Im down for the Muppets joining the MCU. Kang, Galactus, Dr.Doom won't stand a chance against Animal or Fozzy Bear.

[–]quipquest 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Doom won't be able to get anything done because everything he says and does with get roasted by two old guys in the balcony.

[–]YowieWowie789 140 points141 points  (6 children)

It’s actually very intriguing because he very clearly stated that he assumed that it was for NWH. Could it be because the mo cap character was with Matt Murdock? This is actually very interesting now.

[–][deleted] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Oooooooooh

[–]BenSolo_Cup Deadpool 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Oh shit wait that makes sense

[–]SeasonGullible616 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Holy shit you’re right

[–]MasterofMysticMemes 7 points8 points  (6 children)

Or could be Doom himself right?

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (5 children)

Doom is practical according to the BP 2 leaks

[–]MasterofMysticMemes 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Can you link them to me?

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (3 children)

[–]tylerjb223 Green Goblin 17 points18 points  (2 children)

It even says right in that article that Feige wants to mix it up with Doom and basically not introduce him or only tie him to the Fantastic 4.

I definitely see Doom reveal happening verrrrry soon

[–]Fel_Ibiapina 270 points271 points  (32 children)

How I Met Your Mother gang rise

[–]Rman823 183 points184 points  (0 children)

Better get a scene with him and Maria Hill.

[–]WewerehereBH Captain America 54 points55 points  (0 children)

So the fight scene is Marshall vs the machines after all

[–]godzilla1992 41 points42 points  (7 children)

Why do I see James Franco and Hayden Christensen in that face?

[–]mate54 37 points38 points  (4 children)

I kinda see the resemblance with Hayden... but James maybe because of the wink?

[–]time_lordy_lord 32 points33 points  (2 children)

Marshalllll vs The Machineeessss

[–]Yungwolfo 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Don’t tell reed I’m really high right now

[–]JamiesBond007 Alligator Loki 29 points30 points  (7 children)

Lmao imagine if the F4 in the MCU are all played by Sitcom actors - The Office - John Krasinski - How I met your mother - Jason Segel Other roles: Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Brooklyn 99, whatever

Edit: I just imagined Gillian Jacobs as Invisible woman

[–]OutRagousGameR WW2 Captain America 21 points22 points  (4 children)

Gillian Jacobs as invisible woman, and Andy Samberg 100% needs to be Johnny Storm

[–]geekboy400 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"don't Bretta this" mr fantastic

[–]KINGDAVID98 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I would agree if Andy Samberg wasn't deceptively 40 years old. A 40 year old man who looks 35 (aside from the graying hair) and has the comedy chops of a 30 year old. It's insane that B99 ran for a decade and it's obvious how much he's aged since the first episode yet still feels like such a youthful actor.

[–]everynamesbeendone Love and Thunder 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Common Marshall W

A few days ago, I said Josh Radnor should play Mr. Fantastic

It's even more hilarious in context now

[–]_vaiishh_ Mjolnir 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lawyered.

[–]magikarpcatcherPelvic Sorcery 11 points12 points  (2 children)

I am still mad at that finale

[–]selmon_69420 Moon Knight 9 points10 points  (2 children)

It's gonna be Legen...WAIT FOR IT...

[–]Russell_Beastbrook17 189 points190 points  (10 children)

If so this is what Campea was talking about. If not then it’s not what Campea was talking about. If it isn’t what Campea was talking about but it is true then I’m gonna be rock hard like The Thing

[–]darkblazestorm 37 points38 points  (1 child)

Daddy needs to get his rocks off

[–]tryintofly 10 points11 points  (5 children)

But the main question: what was Campea talking about

[–]anotherstonedboi Spider-Man 160 points161 points  (13 children)

My excitement for this show just keeps raising.

Especially “She Hulk, The Thing and Daredevil share the screen”

[–]EJSYN WW2 Captain America 57 points58 points  (8 children)

I just hope it's true. Big expectations.

[–][deleted] 49 points50 points  (7 children)

I think it'd be a funny progression to go from gritty violence of shoving heads into sharp objects, door decapitations, and shotguns to the face, to Matt hanging out with the green girl and rock guy.

[–]SuperCoenBros Valkyrie 18 points19 points  (6 children)

They took Paul Rudd's starstruck bewilderment at the Civil War production and wrote it into the film.

They gotta do the same for Charlie/Matt. It must be so weird paying Daredevil compared to how it was before.

[–]soontwobee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You thinking it'll be a threesome?

[–]ComicSportsNerd Spider-Man 147 points148 points  (0 children)

yeah this is probably fake but wouldn't be mad if it was true lol

[–]Giff95 130 points131 points  (4 children)

Jason Segel is an inspired choice and I never see him get mentioned for The Thing. That is what gives me pause. Feels like the kind of choice Marvel would make. Plus, The Thing in "She-Hulk" is so random I have to wonder if there is some legitimacy.

[–]mh1357_0 Spider-Man 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It makes sense if she is becoming the head of the superhero law division at her law firm in the show

[–]dannys717 Korg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely an unexpected place to debut him if true, but Ben and Jen do have a history in the comics. She was even his chosen replacement in Fraction’s F4/FF run.

[–][deleted] 115 points116 points  (12 children)

I imagine the CGI won't be great but honestly a really solid casting choice

[–]repalec 74 points75 points  (6 children)

Honestly, I think it might be better than you think - it'll still be typical Disney+ level, but you don't NECESSARILY need to go 1:1 reconstruction with regards to Segel's face the same way you'd need to with Bruce or Jen when they hulk out.

[–][deleted] 57 points58 points  (4 children)

I could definitely see it being pretty good, especially considering the rock texture which I imagine is easier to replicate without looking weird than skin

[–]DefNotAShark 26 points27 points  (2 children)

I think Korg has always looked a bit wonky but I have never cared because I consider it part of his comic appeal. I also have always really liked the Hulk's CGI so I guess we will see where on the spectrum The Thing lands.

[–]SuperCoenBros Valkyrie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think Korg looks wonky because they intentionally avoided making him similar to the Thing. Either Marvel suspected they'd get the FF rights back someday, or they didn't want to draw comparisons regardless.

Check out Korg's original design from Thor 2 (he was never actually named in the film itself, I think a tie in novel IDed him as Korg). The rock texture and exaggerated facial features are perfect for Ben.

They'll pull it off.

[–]tehawesomedragon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They've been practicing this whole time with Korg.

[–]GeorgeW_101 Spider-Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It won’t look that bad, they’d likely put more time and money towards it as they’d be able to re use the model for the f4 movie

[–]spideytimey 88 points89 points  (1 child)

GREAT CASTING IF TRUE

[–]Equal-Doc6047 88 points89 points  (4 children)

Shit I can actually see this working. Also if this is true, then it’s good to see Segal back.

[–]JurassicBasset 19 points20 points  (3 children)

He was just recently in Windfall, which I thought was a pretty good movie.

[–]MailboxSlayer14 The Watcher 8 points9 points  (2 children)

He was also great in the Lakers bio-show on HBO Max.

[–]spideytimey 64 points65 points  (2 children)

If it actually is what Campea was talking about, it would have to be something that would look like it fits in NWH right? So a pic of The Thing and Murdock not in suit?

[–]magicwithakick 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It definitely would be, but that’s also a pretty easy piece of info to tag on to fake rumor to make it sound true.

[–]MF_SNOKE 59 points60 points  (11 children)

Interesting casting if its true, gunna need a scene with him and Maria Hill together.

[–]godzilla1992 36 points37 points  (9 children)

Or Scott Lang lol.

[–]simonthedlgger 23 points24 points  (1 child)

I love you, Grimm.

[–]GreatFNGattsby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have them fight the hulk … again ?!

[–]yesrushgenesis2112 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s my favorite fucking movie man. Ant-Man and the Thing save Canada.

[–]idClip42 Mysterio 53 points54 points  (29 children)

The top comment about them getting the episode count wrong (and, you know, the source of the info) kind of kills this rumor immediately, but I can't help being captivated by the what if? of it.

  • As an FF fan, I really don't want them to spend runtime on their origin. Their powers aren't the important part.
    • I think the cleanest, most likely way to avoid that is to follow in the footsteps of the original Fantastic Four #1 - we meet them after the accident, laying low.
    • Sprinkling them into different projects as cameos, then, could help establish that foundation of "they're here, they're just laying low for now."
  • The "fighting a defamation case" detail is interestingly specific and unexpected.
    • If he's "fighting" the case, does that imply that he's fighting an accusation of defamation? How does that work if he's laying low?
    • Or am I reading too much into the wording, and maybe it's the other way around? Maybe it's some general blaming him for the rocket crash.
    • While fighting the defamation case while hiding almost anonymously behind a lawyer fits the "laying low" idea, it also feels really shoehorned, an awkward excuse for his only appearing at the end.

Also, "Originally was meant to debut in No Way Home before landing in She Hulk"? Where exactly would he have fit in that movie? For all it's scale and significance, that was a tightly written and executed movie.

[–]MrMeseeksLookAtMee 49 points50 points  (1 child)

Someone suing Thing, but he’s has been mistaken for Korg. “That rock monster stepped on my dog!”

“It wasn’t me, lady!”

“Oh sure, it was some other guy made of rock.”

[–]Spiderlander Spider-Man 12 points13 points  (21 children)

But nobody besides impatient comic fans would appreciate a F4 film that just completely rushes through some of their most important character development moments.

The coming of age journeys is how audiences invest in these characters. That's why no Marvel film has just "jumped right in", with characters who are already the best versions of themselves.

[–]idClip42 Mysterio 21 points22 points  (11 children)

I'm not saying rush through character development. I'm saying rush through the stuff that isn't character development, that isn't important to enjoying a classic Fantastic Four adventure.

I'm saying skip the expository stuff. We don't need it, and there's so much better stuff that it gets in the way of. We don't need to see them go up in a rocket for the movie to communicate Reed's guilt and Ben's struggle. We don't need to see them get bombarded by cosmic rays to understand that they got their powers in space.

Their character development happened over the course of 60 years after the accident, not just within those first couple months we don't see in Fantastic Four #1. The "definitive versions" of these characters are complex arcs encompassing 60 years, not just the stage they're at in comics today (see: Dan Slott's Reed in DS2). Put another way, most MCU leads have consistently reflected the "definitive versions" of their comic selves, despite complex character arcs and drastic changes.

So pick up with them after the accident, and then follow them on a fantastic adventure. That's the appeal of the title. That's what a Fantastic Four movie should sell. That's how we dive right into the real characters and their real arcs. Everything else is exposition and prequel-itis.

(This is one place (of many) that the 2005 and 2007 movies tripped up - they put all their focus on the expository stuff - the accident, Reed and Sue pre-marriage, how they got the Baxter Building and Fantasticar. They spent their runtimes inching towards status-quo, and never actually got around to what makes a Fantastic Four story a Fantastic Four story.)

[–]deekaydubya Iron Spider 6 points7 points  (6 children)

why would they have to be the best versions of themselves? did these characters not continue developing once they received their powers in the comics?

we don't need to see every origin story of every hero. Although I doubt they'll just gloss over it completely

[–]cred_twos 36 points37 points  (2 children)

They’re clearly going to pull heavily from Hickman’s Fantastic Four run for the MCU, which means an older, established version of the group. Doom is clearly going to be well established in his role as monarch of Latveria by the time we meet him in BP2. So, I kind of buy this? I expected an older Jewish actor with some comedy chops - many thought Seth Rogen, I prefer Adam Sandler - so this casting tracks.

Do I think he should debut in She-Hulk? I mean, this sounds great to me. He’s probably in a lawsuit with the Yancy Street Gang. A street level storyline where he roughs up some goons with Daredevil and Jen Walters? Sounds like quintessential Thing stuff to me.

[–]CityHog 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Was pumped until i read the last line.

[–]minnesotawild4life He Who Remains 26 points27 points  (15 children)

If he is Ben then it’s almost a lock John is going to play Reed Richards

[–]godzilla1992 13 points14 points  (8 children)

How so? Are they friends irl or have they been on something together before?

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points  (1 child)

Think it's because of their age, recasting John with a younger actor makes sense but if they're casting a dude in his 40s to play The thing, than they might as well keep john.

[–]vxxxjesterxxxv “Hello Peter” 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The one thing working against this is the Ben will be primarily cgi, save for any pre thing time, which if this is true would likely be flashbacks. So the age may not be an issue. I guess can also factor the blip. Maybe Ben was the only one not blipped and aged 5 years.

Honestly I'm fine with John or someone else, marvel typically nails their casting.

[–]minnesotawild4life He Who Remains 26 points27 points  (3 children)

Around the same age, casted around the same time and finding ways to bring them in.

Also they have been very quiet on the Reed thing in MoM I think the reason is they are going to reveal the cast at SDCC.

[–]alexjimithing 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Josh Radnor as Reed, Neil Patrick Harris as Johnny, Alyson Hannigan as Sue.

[–]KrazeeCraves 26 points27 points  (16 children)

Are they.... gonna show his origin??? Weird for him to just appear as Thing. Kind of a head scratching play.

[–]Mysterious_Emotion63 Wong 47 points48 points  (8 children)

We know the Thing’s origin.

[–]sicassangel Venom 41 points42 points  (2 children)

We should see how they get their powers in the Fantastic 4 movie. I don’t care about “too many origin stories”, Ben’s initial horror over becoming a rock monster + his self loathing afterwards are great moments

[–]BenSolo_Cup Deadpool 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes we can’t skip over Ben’s initial struggle with his powers it’ll have the same effect as them skipping Uncle Ben which I think almost everyone agrees took a key element away from Tom’s Peter

[–]soontwobee 27 points28 points  (1 child)

Yeah - he showed up in the artic at a research base in the 80s after being released from the ice, slowly infecting and killing all the members of the base. Did I miss anything?

[–]MulciberTenebras Stormbreaker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ego: Yeeeeaaaaah, FUCK YOU TOO!

[–]HadlockDillon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the general public does know how they get their powers concretely. We’ve had 2 different origin films with vastly different stories

[–]FictionFantom Deadpool 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most people don’t though.

[–]idClip42 Mysterio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's probably better not to. How they got their powers doesn't really matter, and I'd hate to waste runtime on it. Easy enough to pay lip-service to it.

So perhaps this is their way of seeding the presence of these characters. They had their accident, and they're lying low for the time being. This is not without precedent - it's how they were introduced in Fantastic Four #1.

[–]Kaleociraptor 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If this is somehow true, I love this, The Thing should be a goofball to some extent

[–]Bubba1234562 24 points25 points  (2 children)

If this is actually true its great casting

[–]Lotus_630 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I nearly read that as Steven Seagal. Now I’m imagining the Thing sitting on a chair for the entire show.

[–]mcwfan 20 points21 points  (3 children)

It’s 4chan, so it’s likely horseshit

[–]ncwh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Is Marshall Eriksen the different lawyer that they are communicating through?

[–]tehawesomedragon 15 points16 points  (1 child)

It would be cool to incorporate Thing with the Hulks. He's not one per say, but he should be seen similarly.

[–]HearTheEkko Green Goblin 15 points16 points  (1 child)

It's a really out of the box casting choice but he's Jewish and 42 years old which if Krasinski is the prime Reed, they have the same age and believably could've been college peers.

[–]pluscuamperfect 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It also fits with Namor age appearance (in-universe age issues apart, it would be weird to have a 41-yo Tenoch Huerta going after a 20-something Sue).

[–]XNightcrawlerBAMF 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Look, I’m happy for more Jason Segel so this is an absolute win for me

[–]MLDKF 15 points16 points  (1 child)

If this happens, I'm just imagining each of the Fantastic Four AND Doctor Doom being played by someone from a different Sitcom.

Imagine: John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic, Jason Segal as The Thing, Kaitlin Olson as Sue Storm, Nolan Gould as Human Torch, and Kelsey Grammar as Doctor Doom

[–]LucasOIntoxicado 13 points14 points  (0 children)

But GUYS Korg already has the same powers as Ben! They can't POSSIBLY make two unconnected characters have the same power set, they have to change his power!

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

[–]Grootfan85 14 points15 points  (0 children)

[–]Satean12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love this choice and I hope this rumor ends up being true. Plus with Segel's age, it gives more credibility to Krasinsli being Mr. Fantastic imo.

[–]scottthang 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Jason Segel is the perfect level of bizarre that I can almost believe it.

Edit: I’d also be hella on board if they made the whole Fantastic 4 cast be sitcom alums. Really lean into the goofiness.

[–]pluscuamperfect 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If this is true it is another step in the direction of a more mature F4.

  • Segel is 42.
  • Tenoch Huerta (Namor) is 41 and I expect him to look same age than the F4.
  • Krasinski is 42 too, which would fit perfectly with the group age and makes me doubt again if they will keep him.

[–]mmooney1 11 points12 points  (2 children)

TLDR: I don’t really believe this 100%. I go back and forth if it could work/be true but in the end My gut says no.

Interesting, not sure if I believe some of this but if they want to sprinkle in F4 characters I think the Thing is a good place to start. He’s the most noticeable at a first glance (unless Johnny is on fire but still). I also think he’s a favorite amongst kids but I could be wrong.

What ever the excuse for the transformations MCU can always say “they were in a lab trying to fix the changes” to explain why they didn’t show up for other catastrophic events. Like Spider-Man they don’t need to do the whole back story over again, it can always be brought up in conversation or as a flashback.

Still it feels odd to me that the first time we see the thing, already transformed, and comfortable enough to be in a court room (not that he would have a choice if subpoena’d) I could see a Defamation case against a company that he accused caused the transformation but then why not the rest of the group?

I also thought no way they introduce Kang in a D+ show, he’s to big a character, but I was wrong.

[–]idClip42 Mysterio 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Regarding "already transformed", it depends how they want to introduce the FF.

As a fan of the characters, I really don't want to them to spend runtime on the origin. How they got their powers doesn't matter because, for the most part, their powers don't really matter. A Fantastic Four story is about adventure, exploration and family - the fact that one of them can stretch and another can do fire is flavor text.

You go back to Fantastic Four #1, we first meet the characters after their origin. They've been lying low since the accident. What's to stop Marvel Studios from treating them the same way?

All this to say, if they start seeding the characters here and there, maybe that helps them lay that foundation and dive right in

[–]mmooney1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great points!!!

I was not the biggest fan of F4 admittedly. I like them but nothing like my other favorites.

The success of how MCU handled Spider-Man leads me to believe they will probably not focus on hero’s back stories if they have been done 1000x times (aka twice in moves).

Spider-Man’s backstory didn’t change though and MCU can go many ways with the F4 backstory, but it doesn’t need to be its own movie.

The F4 are easy enough to explain why we have not heard of them yet. Powers from recent events, spent time underground trying to fix the changes, imprisoned by an evil company who funded what ever mishap caused the transformations.

Sounds weird that F4 are not my favorite hero’s (I like them they are just not at the top) but Doom is one of my favorite villains. I hope Doom is a big bad guy, “Avengers level threat”, and done as well as Thanos (or better). Mix some antihero moments for bigger threats in there, some god emperor doom level power, and I am hooked for another decade.

[–]B33f-SupremeNova 11 points12 points  (6 children)

So im guessing they're trying to do for the FF what they did with spiderman? makes sense, we've already had two previous franchises that explain their origin. you'll have to explain why they havent been mentioned before since they're pretty high profile in universe, and im assuming they're trying to do older versions of the characters where reed and sue already have kids.

[–]WendellVaughn_Quasar Jimmy Woo 10 points11 points  (5 children)

I've seen it suggested elsewhere, but what if the team formed in the 60s, then got stuck in the negative zone (or, more likely the quantum zone) and didn't escape until after the Blip? Their first movie could have the origin part set in the past like Cap's first movie, then jump to the present.

[–]Samuraistronaut 7 points8 points  (2 children)

This is exactly what I've been hoping for. That way they can be the new "out of time" characters like Cap was, and it could explain campy costumes too (let's face it, the F4 have some of the campiest costumes ever.)

[–]BurnTheCrown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What a random ass rumor. Pretty dope if true though.

[–]7567CAPTAIN 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s clobberin time

[–]pedroorc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Crying in poor CGI language. But would love to see The Thing (even if it’s in 480p).

[–]vinnybawbaw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jim Halpert AND Marshall Erikson ??? COUNT ME IN.

[–]scarlettvvitch Sylvie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can see him doing this

[–]godzilla1992 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would be an interesting choice.

[–]alexjimithing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't believe it but goddamn I want it to be true.

[–]JenniferJuniper6 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Let me guess: Matt Murdock is his contact lawyer so he doesn’t have to let anyone know what he looks like?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I wanna call bs because this has been a fan cast for awhile and seems made up from that. Not saying fan cast can't happen but idk

[–]MailboxSlayer14 The Watcher 5 points6 points  (2 children)

No way… my hype is ridiculous then

[–]danielthetemp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

”The Thing is fighting a defamation case.”

😂

[–]holyhibachi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man I do not fucking know about this.

I don't believe it, but if it's true, this is fucking WILD

[–]CockMartins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good because I’m getting tired of basic origin stories and am ready for Phase 3 style exciting crossover shit to happen again.

[–]SuperCoenBros Valkyrie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first 4chan leak I've seen in awhile I think might be true...

...mostly. Three episodes seems like a lot, plus an action scene is a bit much. Ben would have to be pivotal to the plot in a way I think Marvel would avoid. Also, the intermediary lawyer thing sounds forced.

But Jason Segal is 10000% the type of actor they'd choose for Ben, half of She-Hulk is mocap so it's the perfect place to hide a Thing debut (can't do that on Loki), and Marvel will probably want a fresh approach. Piecemeal debuting them across multiple projects, building to a team-up,

[–]StreetTradition4986 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO If the Segel part is true then it means the rumor about Seth Rogen being in the running for The Thing probably had some credibility. Both are comedic, well known Jewish actors so I could see that being what they wanted in the casting for the sake of staying true to the comics

[–]Justice1993 6 points7 points  (0 children)

HIMYM holds a special place in my heart so I’m all for this.
