Looks like we’re gonna have to give at least one or two of them rotation minutes for a good portion of the season.

Ish has not looked absolutely dreadful but he’s 35 years old and nowhere close to a good defender

Theo looked very solid last year but has sputtered to start the season, only 22 years old tho

Bryce is still quite raw but has shown flashes in his minimal minutes

[Woj] The Charlotte Hornets are converting two-way guard Bryce McGowens on a four-year, $7.4 million deal, his agents Mark Bartelstein and Kyle McAlarney of @PrioritySports tell ESPN. The deal includes a fourth-year team option.

Bryce McGowens Should Stay

First off, I’m a Creighton fan, but I come in peace.

It’s the wrong move for McGowens to jump to the NBA right now. I’ve seen half a dozen or so of our (Creighton) players make this premature jump, and it hasn’t ever once ever worked out. Justin Paton is out of the league. Kyrie Thomas is out of the league. 4 or 5 guys from last year’s team are on G-League contracts only, and hanging on by a thread.

I get it. I played for a long time. It’s almost every players dream to make the league. But McGowens should have somebody in his corner telling him he needs to stay. Even if it’s not at Nebraska.

He’s not ready. He’s not a lottery lock. He’s too skinny, and his basketball IQ needs bolstering. He has moments of unparalleled excitement. He has so much potential. I honestly see (and yes I know how hyperbolic this sounds, but it’s true) a lot of Michael Jordan in his game. So much potential, and I fear his flame will be stifled out in the minor leagues.

The G-League is ugly. It’s all bus rides and mediocre lodging. You’re playing in front of very small crowds. You are most definitely not your franchises top priority. Almost nothing is guaranteed. If you’re not in the lotto, there’s little to be gained from declaring. The G-League doesn’t totally forsake injured players, but it’s ultimately a business and an injured 2nd round draft pick on a minor league team is seen as damaged goods, ripe to be cut for space from someone else who jumped too early.

Contrasting that with if he were to stay in school: He’d automatically be the top priority in basketball. He’d would get almost undivided attention from the training staff, the weight coaches, the media, the fans. He could really grow into his athletic ability and polish his game by watching film with Hoiberg and staff. Having access to facilities 24/7. He’d get to have an actual full season with his brother. And I hate to being this up, but if Bryce were to get injured, there’s no place in the country where he’d get better care than the UNMC system. If the Huskers made the tournament at any point in this young man’s career, he’d automatically become a fucking legend. Shatel and Chatlain would write his name in gold in the archives.

Also, lifestyle matters. Big time. On campus he’s the man. Tons of girls. Articles written about frequently. Meals prepped and ready to go. Housing paid for. Medical covered. Additionally, if he were to stay, he could really grow and exercise networking connections with alumni. Every player has to stop playing at some point, and for most of us the years we spend not playing outnumber the years we did. It’s always smart to have alternatives and options, because injury, bad luck, and shitty happenstance are nasty little buggers hidden in the cracks of any dream.

I know this post is kinda long and ranty, but it’s just so obvious to me that the kid should stay. It would be best for his career, sure. But most importantly, it’ll be best for his personal growth and development as a young man.

Edit: typos

His jumpshot is incredibly smooth and he's very much so a three level scorer. Mitch is a 2nd round draft wizard. The Hornets had the 45th pick and traded up to 40 to select Bryce from Nebraska.

He's only 19 years old but his offensive game is very developed and he's confident. He has the size to be a good defender at 6'7" and a 6'8.75" wingspan.

Great game for our young guys. Both of our rookies put on a show tonight against the Cavs. Mark "The Condor" Williams finished with 22/10/0/1/2 on 9-10 FG & 4-6 FT meanwhile Bryce finished with 22/4/4/2/0 on 6-11 FG, 1-4 3P & 9-10 FT. Normally not a crazy statline but with how terrible both teams played today the rookies being the 2 best players on the court is quite suprising. Mark put on a mid-range masterclass and Bryce actually hit his free throws for once. Theo Maledon played 42 minutes as he is the only point guard available on the Charlotte Hornets right now. He put up 18/8/6 on 7/13 shooting from the field and 4/4 from the free throw line. Nick Richards also played well as he put up 11 points, 8 rebounds & 3 blocks off the bench in just 18 minutes. 3/4 FG and 5/5 FT is not too shabby either. He also recorded 1 assist & 1 steal.
