Did Jury Duty actually learn much from The Joe Schmo Show?

I think it’s really interesting that the commentary episodes specifically mention The Joe Schmo Show and how they didn’t want to emulate that show with Ronald. As someone who watched The Joe Schmo Show (granted only season one) before Jury Duty, I’m not convinced the execution of Jury Duty is really all that different to the point that it 100% won’t cause Ronald harm in the future. While the initial start of The Joe Schmo Show attempted to embarrass Matt, they ended up adopting a really similar philosophy to Jury Duty where they built him up and highlighted how “good of a guy” he is (a sentiment that feels EXTREMELY similar to Jury Duty). The star of Joe Schmo season one initially said he was happy about his treatment on the show, but has since gone back on that. He mentions that being tricked on live television for everyone to watch made him feel embarrassed. I’m not entirely sure Jury Duty really contends with that aspect of harm Matt experienced. At the end of the day, his reality was fake, and he believed it. I really hope the show offered Ronald potential counseling or therapeutic services for free. I think that would be a proper way to learn from history and what we’ve already witnessed from an quite similar reality show.

The Joe Schmo Show

I know the Joe Schmo Show has been mentioned here and I can only vouch for this show. Now this might be an unpopular opinion, but I think the Joe Schmo Show is more nuanced in this type of show, you get real time reactions from the other actors about how they felt during certain scenes, it has more episodes, and the situations keep getting crazier.

Tldr: Watch the Joe Schmo Show.

The reboot of The Joe Schmo Show, unaired and in limbo, appears to have had its fake, satirical reality show turned into a real one, 'The Goat' on Prime Video

The reboot of The Joe Schmo Show, unaired and in limbo, appears to have had its fake, satirical reality show turned into a real one, 'The Goat' on Prime Video

Argument: https://forums.lostmediawiki.com/thread/15855/possibly-lost-schmo-reboot-season

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheGOAT_/comments/1dipsku/was_this_show_originally_going_to_the_the_joe/

Evidence 1, the trailer for the TBS reboot for the Joe Schmo show, which has missed its premiere window with no announcement of its status:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHqVVf1249c&pp=ygUSdGhlIGpvZSBzY2htbyBzaG93

Incidentally, original host Ralph Garman detailed his dismay at his interaction with the production execs whilst wishing everyone else their best:

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/joe-schmo-show-host-ralph-garman-cameo-reboot-1235496549/

Evidence 2: The trailer for the recently released Prime Video reality series The Goat:

This has Daniel Tosh instead of Cat Deeley as host, and different contestants with no sign of the new "Schmo", Ben. But it's a very similar house, same gold goat statues, by all appearances the same premise as the fake, exaggerated, parody reality show of the Joe Schmo Show, which usually had reality shows that stressed the limits of believability to test the schmos.

TBS is owned by Warner, so it's possible TJSS S4 was written off like Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme and Scoob 2 and so on, I don't know. But whatever happened to it, somebody seemed to decide the mock reality show would actually be good idea for a real one.

TIL about Matt Kennedy Gould. He was the only real person in a 1990's Big Brother type reality show called The Joe Schmo Show. The rest of the cast were all actors and actresses.

The joe schmo show(2003) a reality show follows a guy name matt as he competes in a reality show called the lap of luxury. The catch is its all fake and hes unknowingly the star of his own show.

In 2003, Jerri was a guest judge on "The Joe Schmo Show." The show was also Kristen Wiig's TV debut.

The concept of the show is that it's kind of like Big Brother with a bunch of people living in a mansion together and voting each other off.... except there's only one guy who thinks it's all real. Everyone else was an actor, doing crazy stuff to mess with this one guy. Kristen Wiig was one of the actors, too.

Jerri showed up and was a guest judge for a talent show episode, and was just as mean as possible to everyone to mess with this guy.

I can't find any videos or photos of this scene... but I was watching it on DVD and was like "WHAT!"
