Horror Films That Stuck With You?

Title, been on a horror movie binge lately and have been wanting something that will stick with me psychologically.

I'm not a fan of typical "disturbing" films that just portray violence against women, rape and torture porn for 90+ minutes.

Movies that stuck with me previously include Hereditary, Come and See, Talk to Me, Midsommar, The Curse(yes it's a TV show but that ending got to me), When Evil Lurks, Mother!, etc. Pieces of media with a hard left turn in what to expect truly stick with me, and i think that's what I'm after here. I would love recommendations !

Missed friendly connection at It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This in Seattle

Missed friendly connection at It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This in Seattle

Bit of a weird post, but thought I'd give it a shot. Last night (May 24) there was a screening of It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This in a small and very cool theatre in Seattle. I was the person that sent an email to the venue asking if they would be interested in screening it. (Cool found found footage / mockumentary btw. Ask your local theater to screen it if you can). Before the screening, the theater staff publicly thanked me for bringing the movie to their attention and, as I am a shy person, I got a bit nervous lol. Later, a bit before the movie started, someone sitting behind me asked me a question mentioning this subreddit (or maybe the found footage one, I’ll post in both). I couldn't properly answer 'cause the lights went out and the trailers started, but they were there with a few friends I think, and they asked cool questions during the Q and A afterwards. When I got home I realized I just missed a great friend making opportunity! I have no horror movie friends in town and would love to connect if you see this post. Just send me a message!

Is anyone else not a big fan of the whole Vecna story line?

It seems like they had this idea to add his character in season 4 and kind of backwards engineer all of the events thus far in a way to give him credit for doing all of them as part of this long drawn out master plan. I liked it better when it was just an alternate dimension full of monsters infiltrating our world. I may be alone in this but I liked the simplicity of it

What is your scary movie goto snack?

I think popcorn is alright, but I always like to have a packet Southern style bbq Bugles. They are amazing. If you haven't had any, then you need to go buy some. What does everyone else eat when they watch a horror film?

edited I'm also strange because I love eating glasses of shaved ice, and when it's a really intense part of the film, I throw a little bit at my best friend to make her jump. In my defence, she does the same to me.

Favorite directors?

Who are your fav directors?

I want to dive down rabbit hole of talented directors’ filmographies.

I’m a big fan of Mike Flanagan, and recently got into Ti West with Pearl and X. (I know some didn’t care for those, but seeing Pearl and rewatching X after made me appreciate him/X so much more.)

Just watched REC (2007) for the first time, what a great movie!

This movie was always on my radar for a long time but I have never been able to find it on any streaming services anywhere. I finally found a rentable DVD locally in my city (yes, that's still a thing some places) and started watching with an open mind, as I'm not usually a fan of any found footage horror. And it is now probably my favorite zombie movie. I found it to be genuinely intense, chilling, and technically well made from the opening to closing shots. My favorite thing about it is how real it feels. Unlike most other found footage movies, this actually looks like a lost tape from a real crime scene that you would find leaked online somewhere devoid of any of the dumb elements typically added that break the illusion. And better yet, the reason the characters are filming and staying in the scary location actually makes sense in the context! The story is quite good and layered with several great plot points and reveals being implemented naturally resulting in a good balance of mystery and ambiguous answers. The acting all feels very authentic, especially Manuela Velasco as the lead character Angela, she's so beautiful and talented! I wish she'd do more film roles (she might be my new scream queen crush, haha). And as someone with Spanish descent, it's great to see a horror movie in the language being iconic and praised across the board as REC seems to be.

What do you all think of it? If you haven't seen it yet, I obviously RECommend it.

Do you like supernatural horror films?

If so, what do you think about this movie? Did you find it scary?

For me, it is a very good movie and Brian Cox was great in this movie.

What about you?
