Wanted Pages?[edit source]

Is it wise to link to "Wanted pages"? Some of the pages listed as missing are actually previously deleted articles, a lot are outdated links from user pages and so on. Granted, some of them are genuinely needed pages, but if you're encouraging new users to come and contribute, and then pointing them in the direction of this list, then you could be letting yourself in for a whole lot more administration! --DannyF1966 22:58, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Well, quite honestly, nothing should be deleted if there are pages linked to it. If there are links like those you are talking about then it's indicative of a failure on the part of the sysops deleting pages. Anyone deleting pages should check "What links here" and resolve those links prior to deleting the page. This would eliminate those types of issues. There should also not be links from the mainspace to userspaces. If users have information that is pertinent to mainspace content, then articles should be written in the mainspace covering that informaion. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 03:22, 6 December 2010 (CST)
I mention it because there used to be a page called "underground" on the wiki, this was later deleted and merged with "caverns", however four other pages still linked to "underground". Therefore a new user might have recreated the "underground" page, thinking it was needed. The crafting recipes also created links to pages called "four torches", "four sticks" and so on, which the wiki doesn't need either. I set these pages up as redirects to get them off the "wanted pages" link. --DannyF1966 10:39, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Merged articles (which previously held valid content for more then, say, a week or two,) shouldn't be deleted in the first place - failing to leave a redirect not only messes with the "wanted pages" list, it outright breaks any off-site links which might've led to the removed article (something that can't be checked via "what links here"). - Bomb Bloke 04:51, 6 December 2010 (CST)
I should also mention that using the wanted pages as a source of "Where to start" for new users is a very common wiki practice. Experienced wiki users won't even have to look at this How to Help page to know it's a good place to start. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 19:41, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
As Danny- WantedPages is a tool more suited to those who know the wiki a bit more than the newbies. Potentially, it could cause just more hassle for the sysops if those who don't have a concept of the wiki history just let themselves loose on a lot of the special pages.  ACLECTASIS  08:34, 7 December 2010 (CST)
I think that they need to organize the wanted pages by language. I can't find anything to write in English. :( Gamegirlxl (talk) 20:58, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

How to move pages?[edit source]

Found the Delta page and it needs to be moved to Delta feature but as I'm new I don't know how to move a page so if someone could tell me how I'd be quite thankful! - Minecraftmonkezz 22:03, 4 March 2021 (GMT)

How to add pages[edit source]

I would like to help in "Getting stacked/get max gear" however since there's no page about that, I wanna add it – Unsigned comment added by MasterLegendYT360 (talkcontribs) at 08:17, 22 August 2022 (UTC). Sign comments with ~~~~

Page rework[edit source]

I've had a go at reworking this page in the past few days, as it's now linked at the top of the sidebar and a few other places like my r/Minecraft announcement about the forked wiki. I'd like to take advantage of the newfound interest we have from the Minecraft community to see if we can get more interested editors from the readerbase. I trimmed out most of the old page as I believe that it was not very accessible, but I'm currently trying to find a balance between being concise and effectively pointing potential editors to resources (like certain maintenance categories) that can get them started; any help or suggestions would be appreciated. –Sonicwave talk 05:36, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

Maybe we could link to Wikipedia namespace guides? But I understand that those articles tend to be hefty for a novice editor. And Wikipedia tends to be more stringent than game wikis, so much of it may not apply. We could perhaps add a welcoming graphic or two since it's all just text. I can see why some might feel dissuaded. However, some may consider graphics to be extra bloat and unnecessary. I honestly don't know if there's any significant improvement I can provide to its current state. Ultimately, though, I think it's good and concise enough for me as is. Yeah thinking about it we don't need to get too exhaustive, that can be on another page. I'm not sure if there's still any obvious resources or guidelines that would be good to add (I just added Category:Article maintenance as the root of all the other maintenance categories already mentioned). –Sonicwave talk 04:37, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
