What is going on with Anthony Davis?

Ever since he went nuclear during their bubble run to a title, AD has not been anywhere near the same level player.

Tonight against the Grizzlies was a microcosm of his poor play. He had the emptiest 20 points I’ve seen and he got blocked/out hustled several times in embarrassing fashion

It seems like he lost all of his burst and athleticism which is wild because he’s only 27. Could be a lack of effort as well

Anthony Davis after Team USA’s win over Serbia: “Got two words. Stephen Curry. Joel Embiid.”

AD said this to reporters after team USA’s comeback win over Serbia, sending them to the gold medal game. Steph, LeBron, and Embiid all had excellent games: “Got two words. Stephen Curry. Joel Embiid.”

Now if that ain’t the most Charles Barkley comment ever lmao https://twitter.com/marcjspears/status/1821650908742066543?s=46&t=Yz2rcBHCRvce95ldv9YOyw

Anthony Davis Trade Request Mega-Thread

Adrian Wojnarowski - ESPN

[Wojnarowski] "Agent Rich Paul has notified the New Orleans Pelicans that All-NBA forward Anthony Davis has no intention of signing a contract extension if and when presented and that he has requested a trade, Paul told ESPN on Monday." | THREAD

[Wojnarowski] Davis could sign a 5-year, $240M contract extension this summer, and can become a free agent in the summer of 2020.

[Wojanrowski] Rich Paul of ESPN on a preferred destination for Anthony Davis: "Anthony wants to be traded to a team that allows him the chance to win consistently and compete for a championship." | THREAD

[Wojnarowski] On timing of telling Pelicans now, Rich Paul tells ESPN: "Anthony wanted to be honest and clear with his intentions and that's the reason for informing them of this decision now. That's in the best interests of both Anthony's and the organization's future." | THREAD

[Wojnarowski] Several teams told ESPN that they're already weighing the possibility of making offers for Davis, including contenders who'd be willing to use Davis to chase a championship this season...flipping Davis at auction after the season | THREAD

[Wojnarowski] New Orleans statement to ESPN on Anthony Davis: "This past weekend, Anthony Davis' representatives informed us that Anthony does not wish to sign a contract extension with our team and subsequently has requested a trade. Although we are disappointed in this decision..." | THREAD Full Statement below

Shams Charania - The Athletic

[Charania] All-Star Anthony Davis‘ agent, Rich Paul, notified the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday that Davis will not sign a contract extension and has requested a trade, Paul says. Davis also had conversations with teammates prior to his decision.

[Charania] Sources: Should Lakers/Pelicans trade talks pick up, point guard Lonzo Ball's camp prefers Ball to be moved to a third team that doesn't have an established point guard. | THREAD

[Charania] Sources: The NBA has fined Anthony Davis $50,000. | THREAD

Chris Broussard - Fox Sports

[Broussard] Rich Paul just told me he and Davis have not given the Pelicans a specific list of teams he wants to be traded to. | THREAD

Chris Mannix - Sports Illustrated

[Mannix] There’s really only one reason for AD’s agent to go public with a trade demand this early—to give the Lakers a head start on trade talks before Boston can get into the mix this summer. Why else risk AD spending the next few months as the villain? | THREAD

Brad Turner - LA Times

[Turner] Hearing from sources if Lakers want Anthony Davis, who has requested a trade, LA has to start the deal with Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Ivica Zubac, No. 1 pick. | THREAD

Chris Haynes - Yahoo Sports

[Haynes] An abundance of teams will inquire about Anthony Davis. But if there doesn’t exist a legitimate chance at competing for a title, trading for him will be risky when he can opt out following the 2019-20 season.

[Haynes] Yahoo Sources: Lakers and Knicks preparing an offer to Pelicans for star Anthony Davis and why Celtics aren’t a desired preference. | THREAD

Nick Wright - Fox Sports

[Wright] If the Lakers do get Anthony Davis, getting him to waive his 15% trade kicker could be the difference between having a max slot open & not having one. 2019 salaries of LeBron + AD + Deng's 5M buyout figure = 70M, and that's without the kicker or any other contracts. | THREAD

Andrew Lopez - Times-Picayune (New Orleans Pelicans beat writer)

[Lopez] Gentry says AD came in this morning and got treatment and a workout in. “He’s under contract. He’s a professional. ... he’s made it clear he wants to play.”

[Lopez] Holiday said AD is “like 90 percent” the reason I stayed in New Orleans. | THREAD

[Lopez] Per @ZachLowe_NBA: New Orleans made Nikola Mirotic, Julius Randle and E’Twaun Moore available for picks over the weekend.

Jake Fischer - Sports Illustrated

[Fischer] The timing of Anthony Davis’ trade request caught Pelicans officials by surprise, but New Orleans officials have been preparing for this since the moment he signed with Rich Paul. They knew the writing was on the wall. | THREAD

Marc Stein - New York Times

[Stein] Even though it is likely that the Knicks' strongest offer for Anthony Davis would come in May once their draft position is known, one source with knowledge of the team's thinking confirms that the Knicks are intent on making themselves a factor in the Davis Sweepstakes | THREAD

Tania Ganguli - LA Times

[Ganguli] Rich Paul, who also represents LeBron James, has not given the Pelicans a list of preferred destinations, but he will inform interested teams whether Davis would sign an extension with them.

New Orleans Pelicans - Official Statement

This past weekend, Anthony Davis' representatives informed us that Anthony does not wish to sign a contract extension with our team and subsequently has requested a trade. Although we are disappointed in this decision our organization's top priority is to bring an NBA championship to our city and fans build our team for long-term success. Relative to specific talks of a trade, we will do this on our timeline. One that make sense for our team and it will not be dictated by those outside of our organization. We have also requested the League to strictly enforce the tampering rules associated with this transaction.

Anthony Davis Was Absolutely Pathetic Tonight

Forget LeBron’s historic game for one second.

This was a MUST win game in terms of standings and Anthony Davis came with absolutely zero intentions of playing tonight.

  • No defense

  • Lazy rebounding

  • Less than 10 FGA

Lazy and inexcusable performance when we needed it most. Extremely disappointed in him

Anthony Davis is Unreal

With an incredible showdown between the Lakers and Bucks taking place tonight, there are many takeaways to be had for both teams. However, the biggest standout of this incredible game is without question Anthony Davis. In tonight's 128-124 2OT win for the Lakers, Davis amassed 34 points, 23 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 2 steals. I don't know if this needs to be said or not, but these numbers are ridiculous. Without LeBron, more of the offensive responsibility fell on Davis than he's usually tasked with, resulting in a below average efficiency outing of 38.7%, hitting 12 of 31 shots. However, Davis was a surprisingly productive 3 point option this game, sinking three triples on 37.5% from deep.

Watching AD play tonight, there wasn't much he couldn't do. His rebounding numbers speak for themselves, but a good handful of those were contested, in some cases by multiple Bucks who had leverage in front of him. Davis is a superb athlete who is excellent at utilizing his build and footing to get advantageous looks for boards and muscle defenders effectively. Davis also had some really impressive passing especially for his standards, hitting a really nice inside assist in a tight window early in the game. From a scoring perspective, Davis' lack of efficiency can be attributed to a heavier workload given LeBron's absence, however he expanded his offensive game to make up for this very well, showing more flashes of soft floaters and 3 point shooting while maintaining the aggressive rim presence that makes him so much of an offensive threat. Defensively, Anthony Davis was as remarkable as he usually is while being unbelievably clutch on the defensive end multiple times. Of Anthony Davis' four blocks, two of them came in the final 20 seconds of the first OT, the second of which was a brilliant help read on a layup that rejected what would've been a game-winning score for the Bucks. Davis has also been phenomenal when it comes to scanning the court on defense and his expert vision was put on full display tonight.

Davis was everything you'd want from a lead option tonight. Versatile offensive game mixed with a willingness to help across the court on defense and coming up big in game-deciding moments. With Davis resting to start the 4th quarter, the Bucks held firm in their commanding lead. Once Davis was brought in, the Lakers went on a 16-2 run that forced a timeout from Doc. Incredible perseverance from this Lakers team tonight in a statement win for multiple of their players.

Anthony Davis is an extremely talented player that's simultaneously a little frustrating. Many have noted before that Davis doesn't always give it 100% in games and I think that's an apparent pattern with him, which is a shame because I genuinely believe that he could put up stat lines like this nearly every night if he really cared to. It's also absurd that he hasn't won a DPOY yet but that deserves its own writeup. My point is that Anthony Davis, to me, has been one of the most talented basketball players in the league for years and I really wish he channeled the full extent of his talent more often because when he does, he is a sight to behold.
