Could US Ticketmaster case spell the end of extra fees?
Nearly 80 per cent of Australians think tickets to live events are too expensive, a survey has found, as the local ticketing duopoly is threatened by a US government anti-trust suit to make entertainment giant Live Nation divest its Ticketmaster subsidiary.
The survey of 1010 Australians aged 18 to 64 found that 67 per cent of their ticket purchases in the prior year were made with the two “legacy” ticketing platforms in Australia – Ticketmaster, which merged with Live Nation in 2010, and Ticketek, bought by TEG Live from Nine Entertainment (owner of this masthead) in 2015.
