Was thinking this while listening to the Under Siege rewatchables. In years past, this is definitely a Shea Serrano episode. Him and Bill riffing on a bad action movie.
But Serrano is a well-known one-trick pony, just doing the 'No, I think this is actually a good movie' routine over and over again. He has good feel for the genre, but the character he plays gets old very fast.
Brandt has just the right balance between liking action movies and knowing what they are, and what they are not. He is funny, quick, has good chemistry with Bill and is old enough to remember when these movies came out to know the context. Just an A+ guy for these action movie pods.
I don't know if there is some behind the scenes reason Shea is no longer invited, but the pod is definitely better off for it. All the Brandt episodes are dynamite.

Just really bad luck. Randomly went on Hulu this morning and saw it , but because of the WGA strike, they're not allowed to promote any union-related project. I like Shea a lot. He’s still listed on The Ringer’s website as a senior staff writer. He stills tweets about The Ringer. But what does he do for them? I can’t find the last article he wrote there. He occasionally appears on podcasts, but not regularly.
He does self-publish books/short stories/other projects, and seems to make a killing at it. His latest short story is $10 and leading up to release he seemed to want 100 pre-orders a day. He has other book deals and seems to make great money there. That’s all great.
