Does anybody else find it weird that Belly is almost certainly drunk when she and Conrad almost-kiss?
Every time I watch the episode, it's so jarring to me. Because while all the kids are drinking, the show makes a BIG point of the fact that Belly specifically is drunk. It's a major plot point in the episode. Cam leaves because she's drunk, several characters ask her if she's okay, Nicole was keeping track of her drinks, Belly's fumbling over her words, she falls on her face, she has to be half-carried to her bedroom... it's a lot. And when she comes back down after her nap, Laurel even mentions that she'll make Belly a hangover smoothie for the next morning.
Then she walks over to Conrad on the dock, and he says nothing. He doesn't tease her about it, he doesn't ask if she's feeling okay, doesn't confirm she's sobered up, just leans in for the kiss.
I know TV always involves suspending disbelief to a degree, but this feels so weird to me. Anyone who's overindulged in alcohol knows this very well: if you get that level of drunk, the rest of your night (and most of the following day) is shot. You're either drunk or sick or badly hungover. But I'm supposed to think a slice of pizza and a quick nap erases the effect of 7 cocktails in a first-time drinker?
I'm just not sure why the writers would make such a huge point to emphasize her drunkenness right before the almost-kiss with Conrad. To me, it puts the whole near-kiss into question. And it's REALLY not a good look for Conrad.
I haven't really seen discussion on this before, so maybe it's just me?
