This is a daily megathread for general chatter about anime. Have questions or need recommendations? Here to show off your merch? Want to talk about what you just watched?

This is the place!

All spoilers must be tagged. Use [anime name] to indicate the anime you're talking about before the spoiler tag, e.g. [Attack on Titan] This is a popular anime.

Recommendations

Don't know what to start next? Check our wiki first!

Not sure how to ask for a recommendation? Fill this out, or simply use it as a guideline, and other users will find it much easier to recommend you an anime!

I'm looking for: A certain genre? Something specific like characters traveling to another world?

Shows I've already seen that are similar: You can include a link to a list on another site if you have one, e.g. MyAnimeList or AniList.

/r/anime Sweet 16 Fanart Contest Results!

Hello!

We announced the winners of the Writing and Video contest earlier this week, and now we've got the other big contest! I've always loved seeing fanart on the sub (yes, even Aqua in yoga pants), and the team was incredibly happy to have been able to bring back the Anniversary Reddit-chan contest format.

We received some amazing entries that spanned a vast array of different styles and techniques. I love holding these contests since it shows just how talented our userbase is!

In order to adequately judge these entries without relying on my (and the rest of the mod team's) poor artistic ability, we have recruited a number of gifted individuals to help, including u/TakafumiSakagami (who won the giveaway!) and the very talented @MiaAmira_arts! These blurbs are based off of their notes so please give them a looksee!

Okay, without further ado...

1st Place: A Mischievous Reddit-Chan V2 by u/Omega_Pie

Omega_Pie entered the 10th anniversary contest over 6 years ago and we're delighted to see them return for our 16th! An evolution of their previous entry, Omega_Pie has delivered a spectacular piece of artwork. Many little details come together to make this a standout, whether that be the subtle shading and shadows to the circular elements that really support the pose. Coloring is on point, embodying the infamous orange and purple colours of the upvote/downvote buttons. All in all, not only is every component of this work competent, they work together in harmony to become a greater whole. A $200 gift card goes to Omega_Pie!

2nd Place: Reddit-chan as an Eva pilot by u/shirakawafel

Shirakawafel is no stranger to r/anime, we've worked with them a number of times on some amazing depictions of Reddit-chan. They prove here that complexity doesn't necessarily equate to quality, delivering an absolutely striking image composed of relatively simple elements, but that in no way lessens the impact. It utilizes a dutch angle to bring dynamism to the work, artfully using the shadows and lighting to draw the eye up and away to...other notable elements. Overall, the composition and aesthetics are strong, this feels like someone who has studied art. It earns a well deserved placement and a $100 gift card!

3rd Place: Reddit chan sword go brrrr by u/MCKIEEY

We love holding this particular version of the contest because it encourages such creative and amazing submissions. MCKIEEY transports us into medieval Japan, embodying a manga aesthetic, proving that one doesn't need color to impress. Rather, the number of techniques on display such as hatching and delineation of varying brush strokes, show their depth of skill. The lines flow across the page, connecting the panels seamlessly, and funnily enough it works when reading it either like Japan (R > L) or here in the West (L > R). In fear of attracting Reddit-chan's bloodlust, we award a $50 gift card! (Thank you for reminding me to watch Shogun!).

That's that! Thank you to everyone who participated. Please check out EVERYONE'S submissions here! It was an incredibly tough decision for our judges and we're blessed to have received so many wonderful works. Contestants, please look out for a PM from me asking to confirm some details, and then your prize! Also, if you would like some rough notes from the judges about your piece, shoot me a PM or send a modmail!

With this announcement, this is the last of the events that received Reddit funding. We're super grateful for their support and for the opportunity to give back the way that we did. Look out for more fun events in the future!
