someone insert embiid in KG's place

when will he miss

[–]Trail Blazersthecarrot78 117 points118 points  (9 children)

The Safdie brothers said they almost cast Embiid instead of KG and now I really wish they did

[–]Charlotte BobcatsFatMamaJuJu 92 points93 points  (4 children)

KG was a way better pick concerning the quality of the movie for the average viewer, but Embiid would have been far more entertaining for basketball fans

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Wouldn't Embiid have changed the entire premise of the movie though?

[–]Spursbrendon_b 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Safdies were ready to rewrite their script for whatever player came on. Originally they wrote it for Amar'e Stoudemire, and for a while Kobe was involved (they didn't want to set the film in LA, but he's Kobe). Embiid was considered for a while when they couldn't get a retired player to commit. Eventually they got KG, and they rewrote the script to center around that particular Celtics-76ers series.

An all time great chapo episode

[–]76ersSeries-Nervous 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Which brother?

[–][deleted] 116 points117 points  (1 child)

Adam was so good in this movie, the feeling of emotions was similar to last years 76ers team, great, great, great, dead by a ball falling in

It’s tempting to spend money on awards just to shower Sim with them.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (1 child)

If it’s of any consolation said awards (1) will not impact Sim’s life to any further benefit or loss yet (2) will simply deepen the pockets of reddit’s alien overlords in their quest to rid the world of democracy

[–]Lakerspl1589 76 points77 points  (4 children)

Most of his first vlog was him mumbling through his NBA goodie bag, with no editing. It's like watching a Youtube video from the 2000s.

[–]Cavalierstoomuchfrosting 53 points54 points  (3 children)

They should let him be traded to the Lakers

[–][deleted] 1680 points1681 points  (76 children)

This Philly team was this years version of last years Celtics.

[–][SEA] Vladimir RadmanovicCelinedionWaiters 1068 points1069 points  (40 children)

Poor Al Horford.

*looks @ contract*

Well, y'know what I meant.

[–]Sunsbageltheperson 412 points413 points  (38 children)

I feel like that poor dude is constantly getting squared pegged into round holes. And that contract gets him so much criticism. But he’s really fucking rich so I don’t feel that bad

[–][deleted] 430 points431 points  (19 children)

He fit our team like a glove. I don't even think he's nearly as washed as people act either, but Philly is quite possibly the worst fit for him in the league between the roster and the coach

[–][deleted] 169 points170 points  (10 children)

For real - Somebody get this man a damn pick n pop instead of whatever the fuck Philly runs

[–]Celticslongagofaraway 148 points149 points  (9 children)

i mean, it's partly al's fault. he could be in boston on a solid deal as an undersized pick and pop center but he wants to play the 4 and make bank so he went to a shitty situation. i'm not crying for him.

[–][deleted] 42 points43 points  (2 children)

I mean yeah but he’s never gonna not take the much bigger deal. Just sucks the staff is way too incompetent to use him correctly

[–]chefsteev 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame the guy, I would have taken it too. It’s the sixers idiocy for offering him that deal when it was pretty obvious he was never going to live up to it.

I bet he’s a little frustrated and but he’s rich af so I’m sure he’s fine.

[–]RaptorsDaPhoToss 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I think fans overestimate how much players care about being in a good situation in comparison to being paid. Plus I'm sure he thought the 76ers would at least be better than this.

[–][BOS] Vitaly Potapenkoitormentbunnies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's washed up per se but he's far from his peak and I think some of his decline should have been expected. I mentioned this in the game thread, but he's 34 now with serious mileage. He played an extensive college career, and he's made the playoffs all but one season in his career. In total, he's played 120(not counting this series) playoff games so it's really like he's played an extra season and a half of extremely high intensity NBA basketball.

Combine this all with what you said - being in a TERRIBLE fit, and he's going to look like ass statistically and via the eye test.

[–]rom197 48 points49 points  (10 children)

[–]Celticssquidmuncha 315 points316 points  (18 children)

Oriakhi was also eventually drafted... lol

[–]junkit33 98 points99 points  (4 children)

For college ball that’s nothing to sneeze at. Kentucky and Duke are the only schools that really get to reload with 1st round caliber NBA players every year. Everyone else just hopes for one star and a decent supporting cast to make a serious run in the tournament.

[–]BucksErrohneos 29 points30 points  (3 children)

The last time I got excited about college ball, Frank Kaminsky was on our team...

[–][PHI] JaKarr Sampsonjbrodie32 541 points542 points  (29 children)

fade the absolute fuck out of me fam

[–]dahomie_longstroke 200 points201 points  (26 children)

Would Ben Simmons have made any difference?...

Because otherwise, this team is sprinting straight into a decade full of over-hyped regular seasons and 1st round exits

[–]76ersMrAngryPineapple 235 points236 points  (13 children)

We probably could’ve at least won a game or two with Simmons in

[–]dahomie_longstroke 54 points55 points  (12 children)

Maybe Brett Brown gets fired?

I'm just trying to figure yall out from a distance. Like I consider Embiid the top interior big man offensively in the league, but it is so damn hard to play through a big man right now unless you have elite defense that can slow a game down

[–]76ersMrAngryPineapple 35 points36 points  (6 children)

I hope BB gets fired. We desperately need a shooter that can play off of Simmons and Embiid but it’s not gonna happen cause of certain contracts

[–]gregatronn 39 points40 points  (1 child)

I don't get why they thought Tobias would be the one to put around them. Or big Al. From an outsider it looks like they were going off fantasy stats with where their money was dumped.

[–][DEN] Jerami GrantBustANupp 14 points15 points  (1 child)

You gotta blame Elton for the team set up. BB has tried the same offense for 3 different rosters so that's just time to move on. He'll get picked up by another team in no time.

[–]76ersdeeznutz_428 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes an all star makes a difference in a playoff series lmao

[–]NBAkobmug_v2 1975 points1976 points  (152 children)

"Jimmy Butler doesn't want to win" -- Sixers fans last year.

[–][NJN] Caris LeVertMichiganMan2424 1169 points1170 points  (146 children)

All those posts were so funny. "He doesn't care about winning like he said, he just wants to run around South Beach. Hope he enjoys competing for the 8 seed while we win titles."

Fast forward to now and the Heat finished higher in the standings and are about to sweep their way to the second round, while the 6ers got swept.

[–]76erscdaonrs 422 points423 points  (19 children)

Literally we had no idea that our FO would be dumbasses enough not to offer Jimmy a max

[–]Bucksgrudgepacker 293 points294 points  (12 children)

Well tbf, it sounds like his condition was for Philly to get rid of BB...

So yeah, your FO were dumbasses

[–][PHI] Ben Simmonsg-love 121 points122 points  (3 children)

But they’ll get rid of him now so Jimothy’ll come back, right? That’s how it works, right? Somebody hold me pls.

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points  (1 child)

Maybe Simmons comes back with a wet 3pt stroke idk man i feel bad at this point

[–]spyson 18 points19 points  (2 children)

There were a ton of sixer fans who didn't want to offer Jimmy the max.

[–]Stupendous_man12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Jimmy Butler was the one driving the bus for them last year lmao. Even with Simmons it was clear the 6ers were not making a deep run this year.

It's hillarious, the sixers were absolutely stacked last year with Jimmy Butler and JJ Redick and they threw it away to give the bag for dusty head Al Horford. Who the hell thought that this could work?

[–]76ersTell_Me_Random_Facts 84 points85 points  (8 children)

I think 100% of Sixers fans wouldve rather give $100 million to JJ Redick instead of Al Horford

If you are going to overpay, do it on someone that helps the team chemistry

(Honestly no hate to Al, he is a great locker room guy but the worst contract in recent memory for the Sixers)

[–]Spursmikostands 66 points67 points  (2 children)

Jimmy Butler's emptying a few bottles tonight, lol

[–]RaptorsLuscious_Johnny 16 points17 points  (0 children)

[–]Knicksdiablofreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jimmy Butler may not be the most talented but he's Kobe level in getting your teams face when they're underperforming. You need leaders like this.

Minneapolis is completely soft without him. Same goes for Philadelphia.

[–]bbqyak 234 points235 points  (12 children)

Sixers 10 years from now will be one of those "what if" teams.

[–]Heatclear831 318 points319 points  (8 children)

But it wont be this team, it would have been when they had Butler and JJ

[–]76ersVanilagorila38 74 points75 points  (3 children)

[–]Sunscandry_shop 67 points68 points  (1 child)

The What If will start with Hinkie, then :

  • What if it wasn't Collargelo

  • What if whatever happened to Fultz did not

  • What if Zhaire Smith was not allergic to peanut.

  • The "4 bounces" what if.

  • And then finally, what if they were able to run that team back

[–][TOR] Rafer Alstonfuckdatguy 35 points36 points  (1 child)

[–]76ersR_Hunt 65 points66 points  (1 child)

Well that's like saying sky is blue. They've had 3 different rosters in last 1.5 seasons

[–]NBA69millionyeartrip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How? Nobody’s taking Harris or Horford, especially with Covid making money tighter for some teams.

[–]Pelicansmarinesol 593 points594 points  (22 children)

The process is dead. Long live the new process.

Fire GM.

Do what the Nets did instead.

Trade Joel and or Simmons for picks and role players.

Use 40-50 mil in cap to pick up garbage contracts for more picks.

Don't Tank. Just accept being an 8th-10th seed for a good 3-4 years.

Draft and Develop a generational talent.

Fire GM for not reaching contention fast enough.

Have new GM burn all your picks to be a contender for 2 years.

Lose.

Return to step 1.

[–]TimberwolvesJrpre33 10 points11 points  (1 child)

[–]76ersACTUAL_TIME_TRAVELER 170 points171 points  (11 children)

Ben, Joel, and maybe Matisse and Shake are the only ones from this entire franchise I want back next season. Literally everyone else employed by this team can go.

[–]RaptorsOLJMAO 70 points71 points  (2 children)

There should be no maybe around Matisse. He’s been one of the steals of the draft

[–]HeatNumber333 792 points793 points  (188 children)

The 76ers deserve to get clowned for months for this.

This roster is DOOMED with it's current status and doesn't have flexibility unless they want to go through a full proper rebuild getting rid of one of Embiid/Simmons or both.

The 76ers became the biggest embarrassment in the sport for "The Process" for 3 straight years and the fruits of their labor was playoff success equivalent to the Joe Johnson-led Hawks. (2nd Round Exit, 2nd Round Exit, 1st Round Exit)

[–]NBAEarthWarping 480 points481 points  (17 children)

They literally had a treasure trove of assets as recently as 19 months ago and gave it away

[–]LakersConflict_NZ 104 points105 points  (10 children)

[–]76ersZupar 84 points85 points  (6 children)

[–]KnicksHokageEzio 123 points124 points  (1 child)

[–]Warriorsnicolascage29 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The bounce that sealed their fate

[–][deleted] 148 points149 points  (32 children)

I think we should all be rationale and take into consideration they’re missing their second best player. Most teams would lose in a similar scenario.

[–]HeatNumber333 296 points297 points  (4 children)

The injured Orlando Magic without Jonathan Isaac and Aaron Gordon managed to avoid getting swept by the 60-win Bucks led by the 2x reigning MVP.

There's ZERO excuse for getting swept by Philly.

[–]CelticsDjruggs 60 points61 points  (10 children)

They still could have stolen a single game

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (3 children)

Rockets are currently missing their second-best player and were one inbounds pass away from being up 3-0 in their first round series.

[–]CelticsTheTrotters 93 points94 points  (11 children)

The 76ers became the biggest embarrassment in the sport for “The Process” for 3 straight years

I strongly disagree. They had a vision to become great and for a few years they executed it ruthlessly. The last few years have been a departure from that vision.

Perpetually mediocre teams who are not prepared to do anything to get out that mediocrity are the real embarrassment. Kings, Hornets, Knicks etc.

[–]Raptorsbluepand4 36 points37 points  (1 child)

mediocrity

Youre being extremely generous

[–]76ersDanaBarros 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the funny thing is they got lapped during the rebuild years by two previously mediocre teams who took more conservative & traditional approaches to rebuilds in Milwaukee & Toronto.

[–]SpursModsEmbezzleMoney 21 points22 points  (2 children)

[–]CelticsAlpacaman__ 47 points48 points  (7 children)

Don't see a lot of trusting the process going on round here.

Y’all remember when the Sixers won their first 5 games and people were calling them championship favorites? Good times.

Going into the season they were up there in the rankings. Top 3 I want to say.

I don't know why but i really don't like the Sixers. I'm happy they got swept and I'm happy they have the Tobias and Horford contracts.

I feel like they were eliminated when they signed Horford and Harris to max contracts
