Temtem - 1.0 Features Trailer | Humble Games
So how is temtem these days?
When it was released I heard people say it was a slog to get through and that it is very grindy.
I never really hear people talk about it nowadays. did they fix any of that?
The other thing is that Temtem has been on my wishlist for a while but it is never on offer. I wonder if it being out of early access now means that it will finally go on sale?
I’ve put 1.5k hours into it and the grind has slowly improved with each update, like more ways to make pansun, hunt luma’s etc but most of big QoL stuff is coming with the 1.0 update.
you can read through these posts which go into detail about what’s coming with 1.0: https://crema.gg/crema/golden-week-of-1-0-spoilers-part-i-campaign-progression-and-luma-changes/
for a tldr there’s:
further improved luma odds and radars are faster
less mandatory trainer battles and dialogue
more exp earned from shrines and battles
cosmetic and dye prices heavily reduced
more exp earned in co-op
temtem showdown mode (don’t have to grind to make a pvp team anymore)
actual endgame island and ways to work towards specific rewards (currently most rewards are RNG based)
more daily and weekly quests
achievement rewards
I put it down because the grind was tooo much after I beat the story. I tried breeding a perfect tem but a gender or something would always screw up towards the end. Maybe this will make it better but I really do not enjoy the whole SV/TV aspect. Its the big thing I wish they dropped from pokemon. I didn't like that grind there and I don't like it in temtem. All it does is smash the breaks hard on team composition experimentation.
I actually really loved playing this with my partner back when early access started. Ran well, combat was fantastic, 100% co-op support, nice monster designs, etc.
I know for a lot of people this game feels like it lives under Pokemon's shadow but frankly I don't care. Pokemon hasn't done anything for me since black and white, and I've wanted a new experience in the monster catching genre ever since. Temtem delivers on that.
I'll be coming back for 1.0 for sure
I'm sure the game is really fun but from an outsider perspective it just...doesn't seem to have its own identity. It looks like Pokemon with a different coat of paint including things like how the trainer stands behind their pokemon in battles. Even the announcer in this trailer sounds like someone straight out of a Nintendo Direct.
It just feels, again, from an outsider viewpoint; that they kind of crossed that line where you're not divergent enough for what you're mimicking.
I’ve managed to find Temtem designs that I’ve attached to quite strongly (namely Oceara and the Raiber line) but it’s easy to understand why some people don’t enjoy it as much. I will say the game works hard to give its world its own identity distinct from Pokémon in ways outside of monster design.
I can totally get behind this sentiment to a degree as someone who loves Pokemon.
From the early access I played, I love this games mechanics and improvements on the older style pokemon (double battle focus, items for HMs and other QoL changes). If I saw the list of changes/improvements that this game made attached to a new pokemon 'classic' game, I would be ecstatic. Even the end game they discuss is what a lot of fans had been clamoring for in mainline games since gen 5.
All that said, I couldn't really get attached to the monster designs when I played last year. There are some standouts that I really like, but a lot of designs felt almost like uncanny valley Pokemon; really close in design to modern Pokemon but not quite the same. Idk how to describe it and given the progress and changes that have been made, I'll definitely give it another shot as that feels a bit shallow to dismiss the game for and I liked what I played previously.
Something interesting about games like Temtem or Coromon is that what i love about Pokemon is the design of the Pokemon themselves and the typing system, and i could not care less about the 2d style gameplay and much less about the turn based combat system so its always funny when the "pokemon clones" clone everything bad about pokemon and remove all the good parts.
The pokemon designs are the secret sauce. There is a pokemon for everyone and while Im sure this might be controversial there is not one single bad pokemon design. Every single one of them feels distinct, minus the ones from early gen 3 dev when it was going to be a reboot, even then though they're still fantastic designs. Every single person on the planet can find at least one pokemon and say "Yeah this is my shit right here" even with the weirder ones like the garbage bag one.
Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong, but upon a brief glance this game is going to be 38USD with a rotating cash shop and battlepass designed to steal my cash?
I'm not fully sure I give that much of a fuck as the game will be 50CAD for me already, and that kind of premium bullshit always make me despise a game within a few days of it trying to trick me with FOMO.
Considering that Pokemon is only two months away, I think I'm more likely to forget the game exists then spend 50 bucks only to get the game trying to fleece me anyway.
Too many FOMO elements in this game. The devs are just greedy and that's on top of a lot of grinding. I wouldn't recommend this game, as since release things got only worse unless you like rewardless grinding. They could've sold DLC but instead went the toxic way of adding stuff. The "it's only cosmetics" argument leaves me deaf too.
