They Know Even More Than What They Say

A problem with journalists/editors not reporting things - or, similarly, having off the record conversations that contradict what is public - is that going forward those reporters end up talking around it. That is, they report on subjects pretending they don't know a key piece of information.

The whole information stream becomes corrupted.

It is like all the reporters in the 90s quoting Republicans bashing the evil immoral Clinton while knowing full well half of them had secret side families.

Do readers really understand what is happening? If not then what are they doing?

Biden Needs To Be Better/Communicate Better On Abortion

That is pretty standard campaign advice. People might disagree with the main point, or disagree with what is possible, but nobody responds with "yes but the bad orange man is WORSE so lol suck it."

I don't know why Gaza is somehow on a different plane. I mean, I do know, but people should just be honest about it.

It Ate All The Shitposts

Frequently you realize that people working in tech companies can't possibly use their own products. Or, at least, the bosses don't.

High Priests

Amazing stuff.
The wife of Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. told a Washington Post reporter in January 2021 that an upside-down American flag recently flown on their flagpole was “an international signal of distress” and indicated that it had been raised in response to a neighborhood dispute.

Martha-Ann Alito made the comments when the reporter went to the couple’s Fairfax County, Va., home to follow up on a tip about the flag, which was no longer flying when he arrived.

...

The Post decided not to report on the episode at the time because the flag-raising appeared to be the work of Martha-Ann Alito, rather than the justice, and connected to a dispute with her neighbors, a Post spokeswoman said. It was not clear then that the argument was rooted in politics, the spokeswoman said.
Democracy dies in darkness or, like, whatever, man.

What Can Biden DOOOO

I wish some good faith people (many people are not) would UPDATE THEIR PRIORS, as the kids say, a bit about Biden and recognize that they spent months running interference for him on this while his critics, who they attacked, were completely correct about how Biden's every fake criticism of Israel was indeed fake!
The US and the UK will reject the international court of justice order directing Israel to end its offensive on Rafah after slowly blurring their red lines that once stated that they could not support a military offensive in Rafah.
The next step is to understand there is no "day after" coming before the November election and recognize the consequences of that (You can say it doesn't matter for the election if that's what you think, but then you don't get to yell at the people it matters to. They don't matter! You just said it!)

I don't like what is happening and I also don't like being lied to by people who can barely pretend that their lies even have to be convincing. Bring back Ari Fleischer if that's the governing style you are embracing! He was at least good at this shit!

Morning

Slacker Saturday.

Siri, Why Is There Pork Lard On Ensaïmadas

Leaving aside the "turned up to 11" bigotry from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, it's quite an interesting view of life in Spain historically, especially for Jews, who did not fare very well subsequently!

Going To Be Another Great Day For The International Rules-Based Order

Jake Sullivan's soul shrivels a bit more.
The International Court of Justice ordered Israel on Friday to “immediately halt” its offensive in Rafah, in a high-profile rebuke that adds to global pressure on Israel over its war Gaza. The court cited “exceptionally grave” developments for the “extremely vulnerable” population in Rafah, and said it was “not convinced that the evacuation efforts” Israel put in place for Palestinian civilians in Gaza are sufficient to “alleviate the immense risk.”
Well he'll spend the rest of his long life at some noshow thinktank job, so who is to say if it is good or bad?

Oopsie:
The young man sporting the white mask and a white hoodie in widely shared video clips is Edan On, a local 18-year-old high school senior, his mother confirmed to CNN, though she later said he denies being at UCLA. Video shows On joining the counterprotesters while waving a long white pole. At one point, he strikes a pro-Palestinian protester with the pole, and appears to continue to strike him even when he was down, as fellow counterprotesters piled on.

“Edan went to bully the Palestinian students in the tents at UCLA and played the song that they played to the Nukhba terrorists in prison!” his mother boasted in Hebrew on Facebook, referencing Hamas. She circled an image of him that had been broadcast on the local news.

It's Groundhog Day, Again

I recommend reading this article in the BBC, and then realizing it's dated Dec. 12, 2023.
