TIFU by negotiating for a higher salary
TIFU by negotiating for a higher salary

This was 6 months ago, immediately after I became unemployed. I had a phone interview with a company that found my resume. It seemed like a great fit for my niche background. During my call with the hiring manager, we discussed my salary requirements. I told them I was looking for 96k. The hiring manager said they typically do their best to accommodate as much as possible.

A few days later, i got an offer for 90k. My wife suggested I politely negotiate for the initial 96k I asked for, hoping that they'd be able to at least meet halfway.

The next day, I got a response that they would have to put the position on hold, and wouldn't be able to move forward with the offer.

I can't help but think that they just went with a different candidate who didn't want as much and I blew my only job offer. Maybe they were being honest, but my gut tells me that in this market, I wasn't in any position to negotiate.

TL;DR: was greedy and blew my only potential job and am still unemployed.

To preface: I’m never mean to food service employees, even the ones who probably deserve it. I worked food service and retail for many years, so I know the importance of treating these employees with respect and kindness. I spent the day packing and moving out of my apartment, it was 3 p.m. and I hadn’t eaten anything yet. Not a hangry excuse, just context. Sharing because it’s good to laugh at our mistakes and warranted misfortune!

I pull up to the drive-thru and begin placing my order when midway through my sentence, the employee asks me to speak up because she can’t hear me, so I raise my volume and repeat myself. She says she still cannot hear me, and it this point I audibly hough and nearly yell my order into the speaker, NOT trying to hide the (unwarranted) attitude in my voice. She clearly picked up on it, as she gave me my total very curtly. When I pulled around to pay for and receive my food, a different employee was working the window. I was much kinder and wished her a good rest of her day, very embarrassed at my attitude and trying to make up for it.

Well, here’s the instant karma: not a mile down the road as I was opening up my sandwich, it slid down my lap and onto the door of my car. Mayo was EVERYWHERE. My reaction? I laughed and said to myself, “yup, I deserved that.” Moral of the story: karma is real, so don’t be mean to food service workers!

TL;DR: Snapped at the drive-thru employee in a state of hanger because she couldn’t hear me multiple times, and got my instant karma by dropping my messy sandwich down my lap not a mile down the road. Yes, I know I deserved it and learned my lesson!

I bought a Hamilton Beach cold brew pitcher a couple years ago and haven’t used it until a few days ago, when it was in the high 80s (F°) for a while and I wanted a cold coffee drink. I added a ton of some generic medium roast grounds in it and then promptly forgot about it in the fridge. Few days later, I get up, find it in the fridge, decide I want to bring some to work with me. Figure it’s cold from being in the fridge and I don’t need to add ice. Here’s the FU. I didn’t know that leaving the grounds in there for so long would basically make it a concentrated Potion of Shit Yourself. And I drank a good 24oz straight up with only a little cream in it. I get to work, nothing happens at first. Within 20 mins I can feel the beginnings of an awful bathroom experience in my gut. I basically have to sprint-waddle to the nearest bathroom before I lose it. Thankfully made it to the toilet in time: the ungodly amount and sounds of the stuff coming out of my butt would have traumatized a small child. I was in there for a good half hour waiting for the shitstorm (literally) to stop. TLDR; don’t forget to google proper cold brew coffee techniques instead of just winging it and almost crapping yourself at work
