Went to see them perform last night at the Barbican Centre and they were fantastic.
Loved hearing Animated Heart live and they closed the show by walking into the middle of the stalls and playing Getting Reminders, which was the song featuring Beirut.
Their performance style is rather wonderful, with different projections in the background and a real sense of warmth radiating out.
It was an utter joy to meet them briefly afterwards too.
I really love this band, and because they are so good one would think there are other bands that sounds similar, however, I haven't been able to find any of them. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would also be interested in "World Music" that is of similar quality.
The show premiered on 10th September, did anyone attend it ? Any thing to share about it and about Beirut music ?
On their website, they say "the music, specially composed in close collaboration between Kompani Giraff and the American artist Beirut, plays a central role in the storytelling."
Could someone help me out with the name of the song in this video?
I know a lot of guitar based bands just keep track of tabs and chords but these guys score melodies for a lot of instruments over many years. I know a lot of them are simple melodies but I still wonder if they use scoring software like MuseScore to keep track of everything. Or is it all just by ear using stems and muscle memory?
I mainly only know The Rip Tide album so far, which to me is amazing, pretty much all the way through. I’d like to find more of their best work. How would you rank their top 3-4 albums? And which sings not on Riptide do I definitely need to check out? Thanks!
I've made this suggestion here about a couple years ago but the point still stands.
Imagine some of Beirut's classic songs (or new ones) brought to life alongside a huge orchestra, like what Gregory Alan Isakov did with his album with the Colorado Symphony or even Laufey's "Night at the Symphony".
Personally I think Forks and Knives would be THE perfect song for this.
The world would be a kinder, more peaceful place if everybody listened to this album.
I just discovered this remarkable song. The wistful, poignant waltz in 3) gives away to a gently pulsing instrumental coda that’s in 4, but which evokes the preceding waltz like an echo. I’ve never heard anything like it.
Has anyone converted the YouTube concert to audio? I listen to it daily at work on YouTube and would like to have it for the car. Anyone converted it in decent quality audio?
They’re all amazing including the latest shows but the ones where Zach is walking through Paris casually speaking French as like a 22 year old or something and playing Ukulele into a restaurant are especially magical.
God give me the chance to see Beirut live once.
By the way, I saw on his spotify playlists that he recommends some Iranian music and as an Iranian American it really made me love him even more.
My new frequent listen, the trumpet on the live version is sublime.
Would love to say I'm driving to a record shop today but alas.
Zach made a mention of working with a Swedish circus in a podcast interview promoting Hadsel. Have y'all seen this? Seems exciting!
Empires fall, buildings become ruins, cultural artefacts are destroyed, animals become extinct. Most losses we do not recognise, precisely because they are lost. We look at what we think is history, but it is really a series of temporary preservations in a vast sea of losses.Â
Using circus, contemporary magic and object manipulation, Kompani Giraff creates in the A Study of Losses their own universe where they playfully seek the attraction of the lost. Four circus artists and a collection of forgotten everyday objects wake up in an atmospheric landscape where even objects carry memories, dreams and phantom pains.
The music, specially composed in close collaboration between Giraffe Company and American artist Beirut, plays a key role in the storytelling. Beirut, or Zach Condon, is composing 18 songs for the show, which will also be released as a separate album under the same name in September 2024. The poetic lyrics of the artist Beirut bring out the dizzying existential experiences of the show's theme. We are faced with the burning question: What have I lost and what am I afraid to lose?
I don’t have streaming anymore and I have a physical copy of March Of The Zapotec and a digital copy of Gulag Orkestar. What should I listen to first?
hi there! does anyone know when they will release the recording of the concerts held in tempodrom, berlin at 15-17.02. zach mentioned it in his instagram but i haven’t seen anything regarding to it so far.
