Create a file from a template

You can use Google-created templates like resumes, budgets, and order forms.

Some template features are only available for work or school accounts, and you’re not currently signed in. To sign in to your work or school account, click here.

Use a Google template

  1. On your computer, go to Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms.
  2. At the top right , click Template Gallery.
  3. Click the template you want to use.
  4. A copy of the template will open.

Create your own custom template

Some template features are only available for work or school accounts, and you’re not signed in. ​

On your computer, open a Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms home screen.

  1. Open the file you want to make a copy of.
  2. In the menu, click File and then Make a copy.
  3. Type a name and choose where to save it.
    • To copy any comments to your new file, click Copy comments and suggestions or Copy comments.
  4. Click Ok.

If you have a Google Account through work or school (that doesn’t end in @gmail.com), sign in here.

Show or hide templates

  1. Open Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms home screen.
  2. At the top left, click Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Turn Display recent templates on home screens On or Off.
