Car Thing DISCONTINUED with no refund option. Absolute scumbags.

This is the email that was just sent out. Apparently, if you purchase hardware, they can just shut it down on you? We all need to be demanding our money back. This is ridiculous.

“We’re switching gears. As of December 9th, 2024, Car Thing will be discontinued, and will stop operating.

While this chapter is closing, we're working on new, innovative ways to enhance your drives in the future.

Thank you for being on this journey with us, safe travels.

For more information on Car Thing's discontinuation, visit our FAQ.

Check out Spotify in the car for other ways to still enjoy music in your car.

Best, The Spotify Team”

Spotify Car Thing - Discontinued and Bricked December 9th, 2024

As stated, received this email from Spotify saying car thing will stop working (and according to their FAQ) will be bricked and no longer function. Recommended course of action is to reset to factory settings and dispose of it with no refund option; Explicitly stating they will NOT do anything to remedy. I will be taking this up with support (not expecting much of anything, more so procedure) and am completely takeback by the choice to effectively destroy existing pieces of hardware that take NO maintenance to continue functionality into the future. Amazing.

Spotify is discontinuing the Spotify Car Thing

https://support.spotify.com/us/article/car-thing-discontinued/

Spotify sent an email out to car thing owners indicating they will stop supporting Car Thing as of December 9th 2024

Instead of just ceasing support but allowing the devices to continue to operate they will be disabling them completely

After December 9th, 2024, Car Thing will be discontinued and will no longer be operational.

Their official FAQ recommends recycling the devices

We recommend resetting your Car Thing to factory settings and safely disposing of your device following local electronic waste guidelines. Contact your state or local waste disposal department to determine how to dispose of or recycle Car Thing in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

I never expected Car Thing to be successful, but bricking the device completely and turning it into e-waste is way worse than I would have imagined.

appreciation for one of Vic's smaller acting choices [S1:E12]

when they start reading the rapid fire questions to Augbert (~16:46), their voice isn't quite steady.

normally the planned segments, like the rapid fire, is when they regain control of the situation and therefore seemingly feel more in power, which usually means they ask the question in a cheerful and assertive way, like they are trying to re-establish the tone they want to have for the show. In this episode however, that's not the case, because of how harrowing and strange the situation is. And it's like a very subtle uncanny deliberate out of character moment that really makes the strangeness of the Augbert encounter even more immersive, because it tells the character is a lot more disturbed in their emotional state than normal.

this is good character writing, and it's all improvised. It's like a very small detail but I think it's really cool

Given the (very disappointing) discontinuing of Car Thing, what are some good dupes or replacements that you would recommend with similar functionality?

Class action suit for Car Thing bricking?

Seems like this is ripe for a class action law suit, still can’t believe I got that email today. This was the last straw for me and will stick to YouTube Music through YT premium.

Any Wikipedia Editors out There?

I started a Wikipedia account to edit the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_streaming_media_services to include Dropout. I then edited a suggested, totally unrelated page.

But looking at Dropout's original article, there was stuff that was out of date or needed clarification. I took a long time to edit the page overnight, largely sourcing from recent third-party articles about Dropout as well as announcements from Twitter and Discord from Sam or Bridgman.

I admit (as anyone can see from my comment history here on Reddit!) I probably included too much detail, and I still don't really understand how to square the sourcing issue. But I have now been accused by more than one admin of being a paid contributor, and my edits were flagged for seeming like a paid advertisement, intricate details, and unreliable sourcing before it was removed. I was not at all a paid contributor, and I have no affiliation with Dropout other than as a fan; I am just simply a law student on an academic break who was hyper-focusing.

So, if there are any legit Wiki editors out there, please don't revert back to my edits, but could you take a look at an edit of Dropout's page so that things are complete and accurate? This has more or less turned me off from editing on Wikipedia for the future, but I still want Dropout's page to be complete.

Thank you, Dropout

Thank you, Dropout

My partner and I became Dropout subscribers in 2020. It was immediately our go-to for uplifting entertainment, something we desperately needed that year. We now look to Dropout any and every time we need a laugh. It's our favorite subscription.

Monday, he was taken to the hospital after his throat swelled in the middle of the night. He is currently in the ICU with epiglottitis. Unable to breathe on his own, he's sedated with what seems like a hundred tubes and wires running everywhere.

I'm not allowed to stay with him overnight and it's difficult to sleep knowing he's there alone. Dropout is the only reason I'm making it through until visiting hours begin again. So, thank you. The work you create impacts viewers in many ways, and laughter truly helps a hurting heart.

On the positive side, we had been a little bummed about the Game Changer finale delay; but, now I'm glad. Evidently, we couldn't have watched it this week anyway.

Spotify Refunded $90.05 To Me For My Car Thing

Took me awhile in the customer service chat, and I had to dig through old emails to find the original receipt, but they refunded $90.05 to my credit card. I bought my Car Thing in 2021, so I was surprised. Not thrilled by the decision or the announcement, but the refund was a good move in my book.

Love Kimia? Lots of screen time on this week's Abbott Elementary

If you're a Kimia Behpoornia fan, she's got a good amount of screen time on this week's Abbott Elementary -- I think it's the season finale. Big chaotic energy -- breaking stuff, DJing, dancing! Also, it's just a great episode for taking place mostly in one room. :-)
