DF64V plasma generator static noise DF64V plasma generator static noise

Hi! I've noticed that my new version of DF64V makes static noise when plugged in- it seems to come from the chute and I believe it's the ionizer that makes it.

Is it normal? Does this happen with DF64 gen2 as well?

It gets better if I clean the chute with the brush provided but cannot eliminate it completely.

Can I have a power socket in the plug and simply cut off power after grinding, is it safe for the grinder?

Troubleshooting

EDIT: The issue seems to have fixed itself, I have absolutely no idea how. I would still really appreciate some insight into what happened here if anyone can help.

Hi all,

I bought a brand new DF64 Gen 2 which arrived a few days ago. I have made maybe 6 cups of coffee with it since then. Yesterday I decided to try to find my zero point, following this guide: Part 1 | Finding Zero Point | DF64 Gen 2 (youtube.com) and discovered that my zero point is actually slightly past "zero" on the wheel, but not by very much. In my coffees since then, i have noticed that i've been going coarser and coarser in my grinds, but my pourovers aren't taking any less time to draw down (sitting at 3;30 to 4 minutes). In the coffee I made just now, i noticed that there was a weird whirring sound as if the burrs were just about touching each other. This was on the "55" grind setting. When i went slightly above this, the whirring stopped. I then went down to about "45" but didn't turn the grinder on, and instead removed the anti popcorn cover and tried moving the burrs by hand as demonstrated in the video above. Sure enough, the burrs wouldnt move.

Somehow my zero point has moved up to somewhere in the 45-55 range, after just a few cups since following that guide. I can't know for sure, but I can only assume that I did something wrong when following that guide.

How can I fix this and prevent it from happening again? I really have no idea what to do, this is my first coffee grinder.

Thanks

Does slow feeding the DF64 Gen 2 coarsen coffee grounds? Does slow feeding the DF64 Gen 2 coarsen coffee grounds?
Question

I read that slow feeding helps with grind uniformity. But whenever I slow feed, my pucks are less smooth and clean. The coffee also comes out too fast: 40-50g under 20 seconds.

So far, dumping everything in seems to work best for me; The pucks are cleaner and my shot times are better (40-50g around 30 seconds).

What is your experience with slow feeding? Do slow fed shots have more clarity?

Edit: currently I'm on a grind setting of 8-9. I will try again tomorrow with a grind size of almost zero.

Burrs touching after each grind on the DF64 v2 Burrs touching after each grind on the DF64 v2

It appears the burrs are touching after grinding. I would need to move the burrs beyond 0 position then back to 15 which is the size I usually grinds at.

I have opened it, cleaned it, put it back with the black mark on the feet on up position. The burrs don't touch in that case, but would touch again after grinding. I don't see any stuck beans or anything. Anything else I can do?

DF64coffee.com July Preorder DF64coffee.com July Preorder

Anyone from the 1-15 July preorder had any shipping updates? I've not seen anything on my order placed 16 June and seeing how its the 15th I'm getting nervous about it. I'll respect their requests not to be contacted but if I don't see anything by the end of the month I'll be requesting a charge back on my card. I just wish businesses like this would stick to their own commitments...

Edit: I did eventually get a shipping notification and was able to track it via Fedex. The grinder came several days after that. So far so good with it, it's been a much more consistent grinder than my used Sage Smart Grinder Pro. The de-ioniser has been working a dream and I seem to be getting very little retention. Very happy with it thus far!

Drifting zero point? (DF64 gen 2) Drifting zero point? (DF64 gen 2)
Troubleshooting

Has anyone else experienced this? I've had to re-zero the grinder a handful of times over the past 8 months I've had it and the zero point according to the indicator went from near 6 o'clock position to about 8 o'clock.

Is there a particular reason for this? I feel that every time I reset the zero point it will keep going further clockwise. Stock DLC burrs. Only time I've ever opened it up was to replace the power button.

Grind size recommendations for DF64v on a Gaggia Evo Pro? Grind size recommendations for DF64v on a Gaggia Evo Pro?

I just got my grinder and espresso machine, it’s my first time having an espresso set up at home.

I used chatgpt to help me with an intial grind size because I was struggling to find a starting point. It suggested I try the 25-30 range. I went all the way to 32 so far.

I’ve been trying 15g shots and the water just seems to gush out so it’s clearly not fine enough. If someone has a more informed recommendation of what grind size I need to start at to dial in more efficiently I’d really appreciate it!

Would love any grind + dose + time reccos in general!

Buy/Sell

I have decided I want to join the DF64 gen 2 club but am concerned that I’m not buying the correct one if there is a difference or not.

Quick question, in Australia alternative brewing has a DF 64 gen 2 for $990 but doesn’t say what brand it is. MiiCoffee is selling a DF64 gen 2 for $631 on Amazon and just over $600 on there website. But $390 difference is a lot, is it the same thing? I’m not sure.

Df64 lower burr carrier scratching noise? Df64 lower burr carrier scratching noise?

I got this for free for parts and this was the first time turning it on after rewiring some stuff. It spun for a bit and I immediately turned it off. It didn't spin again next time I turned it on but the motor was humming.

I took it apart and it manually spins now after some cleaning but I realized there's also a scratching/friction noise. There are scratches on the lower burr carrier and the inside of the grinder. This is what it sounds like: https://imgur.com/a/70ublvm

Any clue what this is or what to do?

I installed these burrs a few weeks ago and I am having a little trouble

  • grinding for filter: seems I have to go about 55 or so. Any looser and the dial becomes too loose, and the grind setting slips easily. Does this happen to anyone?

  • espresso setting: I was going around 15-17 for a medium on stock dlc burrs. But now I am finding a 11 is too coarse. I did some alignment and am getting about 70%.

  • seasoning: how much beans and at what grind setting?
