Hello everyone! I am in a confusing situation and would appreciate some help.
I work remotely as an assistant for a small US based company, they hired me through an agency and after a couple of years working for the same client they decided they want to hire me directly instead of having me working trough the agency.
I am very happy and grateful about it since I love my clients and the agency is algo that kind of business that uses tracking softwares and measures productivity based on how much I move my keyboard.
Any ways, they told me that they would pay me 15 dollars an hour but they have to withhold 30% for taxes purposes according to their accountant, which would leave me with just 11. I find that odd since I am not living in the US, I am not a US citizen, and I pay taxes in my home country, Colombia.
I asked another accountant and they told me very few accountants know how to manage this kind of stuff, he thinks I shouldn’t pay taxes in the US as I don’t live there but he was not sure.
So I came here looking for some help, I have the feeling that would be like me paying double taxes and that seems odd for me, but also I couldn’t find much information on line and I understand my employer wants to comply with the law so he is very strict about the whole situation. I understand he is relying on his accountant but I think the accountant might be wrong.
Does anybody know how taxes work in this situation?
Thanks in advance!!
Is this a good business idea?
I'm thinking about starting a service that offers outsourced QuickBooks and payroll management specifically for CPAs. The goal is to help CPAs unlock more billable hours, increase profits, and even open up opportunities to take on more clients.
Here’s the value proposition:
For $100/hour, we handle QuickBooks and payroll tasks, while the CPA can still bill their clients at their regular hourly rate for these services, profiting on the difference.
All QuickBooks and payroll work is handled and quality-controlled by a specialist, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
For example, if a CPA bills their client $200/hour for QuickBooks and payroll tasks, but we do the work for $100/hour, the CPA pockets the $100 difference per hour. If we handle 10 hours in a month, the CPA could pay us $1,000 while billing the client $2,000, netting an extra $1,000 in profit.
Additionally, by offloading these administrative tasks, CPAs can free up more time to focus on higher-value services and have the capacity to take on more clients without needing to hire additional staff.
This model allows CPAs to scale their business efficiently by using the hours we save them to grow their client base.
Does this sound like a solid business model? Would CPAs find this attractive, or is there something I’m overlooking? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Good day!

I just met two business owners, one of them told me he claims himself as his employee and pays himself a salary so I was shocked. Is that even a thing? To me it didn’t make any sense but he said it’s legit and that he’s been doing it since he first started his business. They both said owning an LLC is good for tax purposes. However, (and idk if this is relevant) the one that openly said he claims himself as his employee also said that what he has is not an LLC it’s a Professional Corporation.
Can someone explain this to me please?
I'm not an accountant and I live in the USA. I'm curious to know how do accountants find an address for a client or nonclient? Is it easy to find someone's address if it's not public?

I am an HR Coordinator and my organisation is expanding in both Italy and France so we would like to establish as a legal entity and hire people there. Can anyone help on how to find contacts? Any recommendations? Any websites/FB groups or anything i can try?

I’m currently in a financial advisor role in the RDU area (Raleigh-Durham, NC) and looking to get into an accountant. I received my bachelor’s degree in Finance, got hired as a banker teller for almost six years, and switched to Financial advisor in the last 2 years. I cannot do any part time accountant jobs due to conflict of interest. I have been applying for accountant-related jobs, no return call for interviews; I have been taking courses to brush up on my accountant skills (which didn’t take long) to add to my resume. I am a former student-athlete, so my work ethic is always there. I’m not sure where to go. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hello po sa mga reddit users. (Sry po sa wrong grammars po) Pa help po sana. Any advice po is helpful po, di ko pa alam talaga kung ano talaga future plans or career ko. I am a 2nd yr student at lito parin po ako kung itutuloy ko parin ba ung pagiging BSA ko o shift na akong dentistry? I can imagine myself for both careers but ung problema lng po talaga nagiging delikado na ung grades ko sa Accountancy since we have maintaining grade of 2.25 to 2.50 at bawal na po bumaba ng 2.50.
Sa dentistry po ba meron po bang maintaining grades in the school of CEU?
Yes sobrang hirap po ng accountancy kahit sobrang baba ng passing rate to be CPA at sa dentistry mahirap din po dahil magastos at madaming requirements (ata). Alam ko din po mga consequences sa ginagawa ko like uulit po akong 1st sa dentistry at mahuhuli at new experiences nanaman.
My dad is an accountant, unemployed for years, actively applying for a jobs online. One weekend, three people claiming to be part of intercontinental hotels reached out to him via text message and requested to set a meeting via Teams and Zoom. We did, however, everything is off. First, they set an interview on a weekend. Most of the companies (I know) worked or set interview M-F, 8am-5pm. Second, they only did a text online interview. We thought that maybe there will be an interview from higher ups but none. After the “interview”, the HR discussed the roles, responsibilities, and a “training”, they mentioned that my dad has go through some sort of training and needed to buy some sort of equipments for the training. This is where it gets weirder for me, they did send a sum amount of money (check) to buy those equipments. I mean, no contract, needed training, and a money?
My dad is in need of the job, but we’re kind of afraid to these people who reached out to him. They are claiming that they are from different intercontinental hotels, but the process are all the same. I’m not sure, please help. If you went through this kind of hiring process and it is legit, please let me know.
Thanks so much! 🫶🏻
I have a CPA appt on tuesday but have some time sensitive issues.
1)I have recently formed an LLC and opened a business bank account. I have some seed money in my personal account that I want to move over to my business. What's the best way? Are there tax implications? Anything I should be aware of? It's 15k.
2) I'm looking to buy a vehicle for the business with these funds. For LLC protection and tax reasons, I'd like the business to buy it. Do I have to move the $ over first or can I buy the vehicle personally and then have my LLC purchase it from me. I'd like to pay cash.
Thanks for advice. I'm new to this.
I am about a year away from from finishing my bachelor's in accounting with a specialization in project management. I've had a few things happen recently that have made me think about being an advocate in some way. Can anyone think of any jobs where I could be an advocate and use my accounting degree? Or would u be better off switching my major?
I'm graduating soon with a degree in accounting, and I'm looking for companies that offer opportunities to work internationally? Also, which specific field within accounting has the highest likelihood of enabling me to work abroad?
Hey everyone,
I’m diving into some research around the accounting industry and was hoping to get your take—what’s the biggest challenge you’re facing right now? Whether it’s marketing, hiring, setting up systems, or something else entirely, I’d love to hear what’s on your mind.
I’m genuinely curious and just want to understand what’s out there. Plus, it could be cool to see what others in the community have to say or recommend.
Thanks a lot for sharing—I really appreciate it!
Can you explain this for me since im not very good at English so im worries that i might interpret it incorrectly. My guess is that it takes 2.5 years for the company to generate enough revenue to equal the value of its total asset. Thank you so much
The below is a gif of that we are working on, it's an AI software that extracts key information from any data sources you might use for data entry into excel, this example is of filling in key financials from a 10k into the right cells in just a few seconds, but it works for any data sources into your custom excel template.
After cells are filled in one can audit any of them at any time later to see exactly where the results were found.
Would love to get your feedback on it, and any thoughts! :) We are trying to figure out what the best usecases for accounting would be where this is most useful for others!
I bought BCH in 2022 at $20 + $0.50 fee for $20.50 cost from Paypal.
Yesterday I sold it at $21.38 - $0.99 fee for $20.39 again using Paypal.
First: Am I correct that this is an ($0.11) capital loss? In other words are the transaction fees included in both the cost AND the proceeds?
Second: Does the IRS even care about such a tiny amount? Both the cost and proceeds feel like they'd be under some limit. Not to mention any gain or loss feels like it would be too.
I am trying to create a crossword puzzle for some friends and i need some questions with 1 word answers that only an accountant would know. Any ideas?
Does anyone know of jobs I can do remotely while in the Republic of Georgia? I’m having trouble finding one.
What is it called if two people ask an accountant to start them a 50-50 LLC and the accountant instead makes a C corp and leaves one of the 2 people off of it?
