!FOUND! Look back on our journey for a once-lost song dubbed by lost media hunters as 'Everyone Knows That' or 'Ulterior Motives'. A 17 second snippet of it was uploaded back in 2021 by the user 'Carl92' on the site WatZatSong.com. r/ColecoVision

Released in August 1982, ColecoVision offered near-arcade-quality graphics and gaming style along with the means to expand the system's basic hardware with modules, such as one to add support for Atari 2600 games. All non-ColecoVision games and hardware are also welcome here. From handhelds to Telstar. If it has the Coleco name on it, it's all good.

Just heard that star search is still a thing 😅

Don't flame me. 😅

Just heard that star search is still going on in Singapore. Pretty suprisjng news for me.

It's not my intention to dish our local television programs, but seriously who's watching local program? It's not so much from the push that our local program sucks (or that the younger actors/actress seems to be more interested in getting fans or looking cool than trying to learn how to act.). Rather it's the pull of the super cool programs from the international market. I mean seriously with tonnes of great drama from Netflix, hulu and YouTube, who has time for channel 8?

To me, in the 2020s, with the pervasive reach of top international programs available any time you like, investment in local TV programs don't make sense at all.

There will be the naysayers that will say if we invest, there is still a chance that they will succeed - yeah, sure same analogy as our world cup 2010 dream. Good dreams :)

Local TV program is like snail mail in the world where people has already move off to emails/live-chats.

When it comes to Alyssa's star search, is there any pattern that anyone has noticed in which color stars or which direction in the sky will give you certain types of stars? For a long time I was 2 stars away and earlier this year I brought it down to 1 left! Im missing one astro emblem I believe.

Gloria on Star Search!

While seeing the “footage” of Gloria on Star Search that she was showing to Phil, I was really wracking my brain trying to remember if I saw her on Star Search too, way back when! I mean, holy cow! They did that video SOOOOO well it looked just like Star Search footage from the ‘80s! I ended up looking at Sofia Vergara’s IMDB page just to see if maybe she really HAD been on that show! (Sadly no, in case you were wondering!)

Possible suggestion: Star Search or other reality competition shows

Possible suggestion: Star Search or other reality competition shows

Here's a possibility that crossed my mind and I wanted to know if it's valid to consider. Perhaps EKT was from a band/singer on some early reality show like Star Search. For those that don't know, Star Search ran in the US from 1983 to 1995, and was a precursor to shows like American Idol, America's Got Talent, etc., featuring bands and solo musical acts competing against each other. I don't know if this show was rerun internationally during the 80s or 90s, but I thought if it was, it might have been where EKT came from. And if it wasn't rerun internationally, then maybe there was a similar show that aired in Europe featuring the same premise that Carl92 recorded EKT from.

A* Star Search Algorithm Question

How can you determine which path A* search will take when it encounters path with equal heuristics?

https://imgur.com/a/Y8wuIc6

In this graph we can see that A>D = 4+4, A>H = 4+4, and A>G = 5+3

Does it pick the one with the lower g(n)? Does it pick the path with the lower h(n)? Does it have to check the next nodes (B or F on this graph.) Can you say for certain without knowing its priority queue implementation?

(x-post from r/coursera but it's actually more of an algorithm question)

Star Search: Finding Bayern's Next Winger

With both Robben's and Ribery's contracts are up at the end of the season, the era of "Robbery" is finally coming to a close. But how does a team replace two players that have contributed so much even at the twilight of their careers (14 goals and 17 assists in the Bundesliga alone). Bringing in young, talented players alone, and it will probably on hurt our chances in the Champion's League in the short term.

In order to develop a list, certain criteria needed to be met. These were conceived of by looking at where both Ribery and Robben were at just prior to coming to Bayern. This led me to conceive of the following:

  • 1 - Contribute to at least 14 goals (i.e. goals+assists). Both Ribery (4 goals and 10 assists) and Robben (7 goals, 7 assists) had contributed 14 goals the season before their transfers. 14 is arbitrary, but having the threshold of 15 eliminated too many players.

  • 2 - Play in a top 5 league (preferably with European experience, exceptions can be made for outstanding players)

  • 3 - Under the age of 26 (to maximize time spent in their prime)

  • 4 - In a poor situation with their current club (not getting paid enough, lack of playing time, refuses to extend contract). Although I encourage the club to spend as much money as possible to secure our future, finding the best deal possible is never a bad thing.

  • 5 - Plays (preferably) on the right. It seems abundantly clear to me that Coman is a significantly better player when he is on the left than on the right, and is capable of contributing a lot more than just crossing the ball in aimlessly. Bonus points if they are also left footed.

  • 6 - Willing to come off the bench if necessary. Since both Ribery and Robben are leaving and Costa is looking to leave, we are going to need at two wingers, and they are going to need to split time between each other.

The following list is ordered by the expiry of the player's contract. All stats are from Transfermarkt/WhoScored (this is important because each of these websites counts assists differently). Players in bold are players that we have been linked to over the course of the season.

Name Position Age Current Club Goals Assists Dribbles/Game Contract Until
Bruma LW/RW 22 Galatasaray 8 6 4.8 2018
Keita Balde Diao LW/SS 22 Lazio 11 3 1.9 2018
Federico Bernardeschi SS/LW/RW 23 Fiorentina 10 4 1.8 2019
Felipe Anderson RW 24 Lazio 3 11 3.5 2020
Thomas Lemar LW 21 Monaco 7 7 2.8 2020
Bernardo Silva RW 22 Monaco 6 10 1.9 2020
Florian Thauvin RW 24 Marseille 12 7 2.5 2017 (Loan)
Wilfried Zaha RW/LW 24 Crystal Palace 6 11 4 2020
Sadio Mane RW 25 Liverpool 13 6 2.5 2021
Quincy Promes RW/ST/LW 25 Spartak Moscow 10 9 1.9 2021
Yannick Carrasco LW 23 Atletico Madrid 10 4 2 2022
Gelson RW 21 Sporting 5 12 2.4 2022

Notes

  • I excluded Neymar (price), Hazard (price), Bale (price) and Insigne (just signed a new contract). Another player who would normally qualify but didn't is Henry Onyekuru of KAS Eupen, who at 19 years of age has posted a staggering 12 goals and 7 assists in the Belgian league. However, I think he's far too young to make the jump just yet. I'd also include other guys like Brandt, Gnabry, Bailey and Saint-Maximin in this as well (although they didn't make the list because of their lack of production and experience).

  • I included dribbles/game because breaking down defenses is of the utmost importance with how teams play against us. Drb/Game only tells you so much though and it also doesn't tell you where these dribbles are happening (is it in your own half? The final third?). WhoScored also provides us with # of times fouled as well as # of dispossessions. You could use these in any number of ways to draw some conclusions (like Dribbles - Dispossessions, Dribbles/Dispossessions, (Dribbles + Fouls)/Dispossessions, etc.). I think the ratio of dribbles to dispossessions would probably be the most useful of those (Bruma and Zaha dribble successfully often, but are . That will be something to look at in the future.
