Subreddit for the Netflix TV series starring Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning. The story follows the writer and performer Richard Gadd's warped relationship with his female stalker and the impact it has on him as he is ultimately forced to face a deep, dark buried trauma.
Well maybe on the surface it is. But if you take a step back, it's really about one man coming to terms with his past trauma. Martha was just the catalyst for Donny doing so. It's an incredibly vulnerable piece of work. Gadd doesn't shy away from his shortcomings, shining a much less empathetic light on Donny than he does on Martha.
Lifting the taboo/stigma of men being able to talk more openly about past traumas (such as sexual abuse) and mental health is incredibly important. But I fear that conversation is getting lost in the Fiona sauce.

I know a lot of people want to see a reboot, but the show is still modern enough and still watchable enough. I think a reboot is a terrible idea.

It seems to be lost on a disturbingly large amount of people what Fiona Harvey has done to multiple people over many decades. She is not a victim - the people that she has stalked and harassed are the victim. The entire point of baby reindeer was to portray the brokenness of both the stalker and their victim.
In Reading a majority of the claims coming from the UK towards Netflix and Richard G this all seems to actually pivot around the term being used of CONVICTED stalker. So the focus now is to produce proof that she was ever convicted of at least one of her many many horrific stalking crimes.
I would think that the UK and Parliament would be rather embarrassed by the fact that they never reached out to help any of these victims of Fiona Harvey. Yet here they are trying to go after Netflix over that one creative license taken by the VICTIM and author of baby reindeer. This is His story not hers.
What is going on with people in the world?! Fiona should have been slapped with multiple legal fines, restraint orders and probably convictions from any one of her stalking tangents. If anyone is not familiar with the other incredibly horrible events of stalking Fiona pursued just Google it up. Some involved a disabled child.
🤔 Obviously I'm missing something or I am really seeing the lack of empathy in society as this all unfold in front of us. Am I just not looking at this right?!

When when people in the bcs community talk about Nacho, they talk about him as some "not suited for the gangster life" "not fit for business" character, even seen some people think Nacho had a good heart.
I understand that there is a very clear parallell to Jesse with Nacho because its a very depressing character that you feel bad for, that gets hard punished for his crimes and is close(sorta) to Mike. But I really dont understand where people are getting this from.
Nacho absolutely fits the scum drug dealer life style. In the show we see him rip someones earring off from their ear, we see him threaten people with death, we see that he has drug addict girlfriends at his home, and he deals drugs for an extremely brutal cartel. I think it is safe to assume that Nacho has murdered before too. Where are people getting the idea that Nacho never deserved what he got from? Is Nachos relationship with his dad the reason people say he wasnt fit for the street life? Because I think that is a very weak point...

Shōgun, set in feudal Japan, charts the collision of two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious female samurai: John Blackthorne, a risk-taking English sailor who ends up shipwrecked in Japan, a land whose unfamiliar culture will ultimately redefine him; Lord Toranaga, a shrewd, powerful daimyo, at odds with his own dangerous, political rivals; and Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills but dishonorable family ties, who must prove her value and allegiance.
I'm sorry for the simple post/question.
I'm watching the show for the first time, currently on Episode 1 and I'm enjoying it so far. I just want to clarify, when the people from the boat speak English, that's just for English speakers watching the show, right? And in universe they're supposed to be speaking Portuguese?
And the guys from the boat are Portuguese too, I'm assuming?
Again sorry for the basic question, I've googled but couldn't find a straight answer. Thanks for any replies :)

I understand many people are very I treasured in the real Martha. That’s not why I came to this sub. I came here because of the story. My story is so similar and different from Gadd’s. I’m not trying to shade the folks who are into FH’s FB posts. It’s just not for me. Is anybody else interested in a baby reindeer sub that discusses the themes of the sub over FH’s FB?
I know this isn’t an airport and I don’t need to announce my departure.
