In each year, who would the average person think ran the country?
Meaning would the average subject, in each year, view King (or Queen) or Parliament as his or her head of government?
It is years from now and George VII is on the throne. His wife is pregnant with their first child. Sadly, he suddenly dies.
So who takes over with the heir in utero? Would Charlotte serve as regent (assuming she is an adult) until her nephew or niece is born and grows up or would she have a special title since the actual monarch is not yet born?
Has anyone seen the BBC programme Elizabeth R - I think filmed late 70s staring Glenda Jackson as Elizabeth. It charted her life from henry 8th to her death. In my humble opinion a brilliant drama
For me? Edward III’s managing to usurp power from his mother Isabella (who is a personal hero of mine, at least until she became corrupted during her regency) and her lover Roger Mortimer.
Isabella was so paranoid that she personally kept the castle keys. But she wasn’t counting on two things.
One, the castle holding a secret passage and two, her son learning about it. Personally, I think she was secretly impressed because while she did enter retirement, she and her son were on good terms.
What do you think?
