What If Questions Are Now Banned
Atleast until the end of the month, all "What If" questions are banned, this does not mean "What If" scenarios are banned, only questions such as "What If Napoleon Won The Battle of Waterloo?"
There has been a constant spam of these for a long time drastically lowering the quality of the sub, hopefully if things calm down we will return Rule 8 as it was, but for now we are taking harsher measures
If these posts are the main draw you have to this subreddit I'd like to direct you to r/HistoryWhatIf and r/HistoricalWhatIf
If you break this new rule more than once during this month, we will ban you
Stricter Moderation
Recently we have gained multiple new mods and now have 6 active moderators, this allows us to more consistently enforce rules, some of you may be breaking rules without realizing it assuming they were no longer enforced, this is not the case and was just a lack of number of team members, if you feel you have been banned due to not knowing they were intended to be enforced send us modmail and we may reverse your ban
We do still need more moderators however, and if you wish to become one you can send us modmail asking or DM me directly, if we ignore you, assume we decided no
Other Changes
Here is a list of other changes we are making for atleast this month, they may be reversed depending on how things go:
Rule 9 is being removed, it is one of our oldest rules intended to help other scenarios get more traction but with how things have been recently the mod team has decided to remove it to see if it helps the quality of the sub improve
Memes and Joke scenarios are now banned, this does not ban having jokes or memes within a post (for example having an alternate universe meme on a social media site) but things that are only those two will be removed If those are your interest I'd like to direct you to r/AlternateHistoryMemes for the time being, I have contacted the admins to see if r/alternatehistorycj can be changed hands so I can revive it I'd point you to the other sub that seems to get recommended but I don't swear so I'm not typing it and it seems that they seemingly allow things that aren't even alternate history
A new "Althist Help" flair is being added for those seeking advice on specific things within their scenarios, this is not to be used for any "What If" questions, you must be asking a detailed and pointed question that you cannot find the answer to elsewhere (credit to u/RedTheGamer12 for the idea)
Native Reddit videos are now allowed as they previously were not for some reason
There is now a "Mod Update" flair for all future mod update posts, starting with this one
The flair system has been reworked to be more consistent, now focused around different time periods
Final Words
The best thing you can do to help this subreddit be better without being a moderator is to report posts you see that break the rules
There are detailed explanations for every rule and their reasoning on the sub wiki if you want clarification
We are trying our best to curb the low effort spam this sub has seen and to turn it around, for years there was effectively only one mod here, the unsung hero of the subreddit who quit the mod team last month, they made me a mod and told me I had free reign to try to change things as I saw fit in an attempt to improve things, but I can't do it alone, I'd like to thank all the other members who recently joined and my good friend I dragged along to help me (sorry Harriot <3)
