But that's because my love for Disgaea 4 is fairly unreasonable. Disgaea 7's putting up a pretty fierce fight for the silver or bronze medal and that's nothing to sneeze at.

It's hitting that balance of fun and serious parts pretty favorably and that's my favorite part of the franchise.

Building up that rival to Fuji just to have him beaten offscreen with a spear shoved up his ass is just *chef's kiss*.

I don't see this game talked about at all really which is criminal. Siralim is a monster collector, a dungeon crawler, and most importantly it is HUGE.

For you monster collectors - there are over 700 monsters (supposedly, I'm still finding new ones nearing the 100 hour mark). Each monster has its own special power, and can equip other skills to create some wild synergies in battle. Other than finding monsters in the wild, you can breed monsters using a plethora of "recipes" to create new monsters. There are also Singulars, which are essentially your shiny Pokemon for all of the base monsters which adds a different color palette and are of course super rare.

For you dungeon crawling loot seekers - you can find a ton of different artifacts to equip to your monsters to increase stats and add new traits, gems to give your monsters new spells (and each gem can drop with modifiers as well). And of course there is crafting/rerolling to make everything just like you need for your team. After you beat the main questline, you've completed the tutorial and are ready to take on Itherian Realms (think Diablo rifts or PoE maps), end game bosses, and more. I'm still coming across new things and new gameplay mechanics at almost the 100 hour mark.

And for the endless grind crowd - like I mentioned before this game is enormous. No level caps, tons of items to find and level, the shiny hunt. I can see myself putting a couple of hundred hours in here easy, and then I might be close to finishing out the list of 1,172 achievements (each of which give you achievement points that permanently increase rare item find rates).

And did I mention this is all made by one guy? And it's like $15 on the e-shop? I can't recommend it enough. Thank you Zack for this wonderful series and I hope I've got some of you interested to support this awesome game!

I was thinking about how I first discovered Disgaea: Hour of Darkness for PS2 and wanted to share the story of how I did as well as hear how others were first introduced to the series:

I was maybe 11 or 12 (so like 2003 or 04) and was in Game Stop looking for a new game. There it was. Picked it up because the box art had all these cool looking anime characters on it so I got it. Normally that logic doesn’t apply to a game being good but it did this day. I didn’t know anything about the game and just assumed it would be a fun jrpg.

When I got home and booted it up for the first time I was surprised to find that the game was a lot like another game I had played before, Final Fantasy Tactics, so I wasn’t unfamiliar with how to play. I loved the Netherworld setting and playing as demons with angels and monsters. Most of all I loved creating characters, naming them and leveling them up.

Since then I have played Disgaea 2 and D2 but would love to play the other games. What was your first Disgaea game and how did you discover the series?

The Disgaea franchise is incredibly ambitious and with each new installment the fun and chaos grow. Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is no exception.

For fans of its humor, storytelling, and core gameplay, the game rectifies some past missteps. While it's not without flaws – notably, the post-game content falls short of previous entries – it's still a must-play for those seeking a challenging RPG with extensive grinding opportunities.

Disgaea 7 offers up yet another enjoyable entry in the long-running series, offering up a more refined take on the famously in-depth gameplay systems. New mechanics such as Jumbification add some interesting wrinkles to the SRPG battles, while new modes like competitive ranked online bring even more playability to a game that'll take you hundreds of hours to see to completion. Perhaps best of all, Disgaea 7 is very newcomer-friendly, though we will add that the very deliberate and measured approach to min-maxing isn't for everyone. Whether you're looking for an excellent new RPG to sink a lot of time into or you've been a fan of Disgaea since the PS2 days, Disgaea 7 is a worthwhile entry that we'd recommend you pick up when you can.

I’ve had a brilliant time with Disgaea 7. Everything I’ve loved about the series is present here, wrapped up with a nice little bow. The effort made to refine elements from previous titles, and the new mechanical additions like the evil-gacha and jumbification, creates a fresh and fun experience. The personality and charm of the game’s characters is relentlessly compelling, and the comedic overtones keep the experience light and pacey. I can’t think of a better endorsement of Disgaea 7 than the fact that as soon as I’m done with this review I’ll be jumping right back into it.

Im really in the mood for playing a Tactical RPG and Disgaea got my attention? I looked a little bit into the franchise and it seems like there are some titles that are just better them the others and im not sure which one i should pick. Im not really interested into playing the whole series, i just wanna play a good Tactical RPG so i wanna go for the best experience available. Like best possible gameplay with the less clunkness, just the most smooth experience overall. From my short research it looked like Disgaea 5 is considered the best, but i would like to read the opinions of better informed ppl.
