6th Boots...

Why are 6th boots sometimes so memorable. For example,

Australian Outback: Jeff Varner

Thailand: Robb “2 b’s” Zbacnik

All-Stars: Ethan Zohn

Cook Islands: Cao Boi

Fiji: Anthony Robinson

Micronesia: Chet Welch

Heroes Vs. Villains: Tyson Apostol

Redemption Island: Stephanie Valencia

Blood Vs. Water: Brad Culpepper

Millennials Vs. Gen X: Figgy Figueroa

Game Changers: Sandra Diaz-Twine

Heroes Vs. Healers Vs. Hustlers: Ali Elliott

David Vs. Goliath: Natalie Cole

Edge Of Extinction: Big Wendy

Island of the Idols: Jason Linden

Winners at War: Boston Rob Mariano

Why are 6th boots always so memorable. I don’t understand.

Edit: I’m dumb and put Cao Bui for Pearl Islands and not for Cook Islands.

New Season Idea: 2nd Chance vs 2nd Place vs 2nd Out

We'd have a 3 tribe season as the title implies.

2nd Chance:

  • Jenn Brown

  • Rick Devens

  • Jay Starrett

  • Natalie Bolton

  • Frosti (does he need a full name)

  • Ali Elliott

2nd Place: pretty iconic so I feel like last names aren't entirely necessary

  • Woo

  • Tasha

  • Coach

  • Dreamz

  • Aubry

  • Jaclyn Schultz

2nd Out: it seems like a disproportionate amount of women get the 2nd boot out of the game

  • Candace Smith

  • Shirin (kind of cheating with this one)

  • Mari Takahashi (Gen X vs Millennials)

  • Vince Sly

  • Patrick Bolton (2nd one out from the Yawa tribe)

  • Garrett Adelstein

I was really trying to go for diversity and personalities here. What do you guys think?

Every Survivor Contestant of 2017 Ranked

I did this last year, and thought it would be fun to do it again this year. It's been quite the year for Survivor. With two divisive US seasons, one universally praised Australian season, and one brand new back-to-basics New Zealand season, there has been a lot of Survivor in the year 2017. This list is ranked on gameplay (with a bit of personal and recency bias), and includes all 78 contestants from Survivor: Game Changers, Survivor: Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers, Australian Survivor 2017, and Survivor New Zealand. For the returning players, I ranked them based only on Game Changers and not any of their other appearances. VOTIGAMI: S41 Episode 3

Based on Scorigami of the NFL, Votigami is achieved when a Survivor vote occurs which has never happened before. Of the now 604 votes that have taken place in Survivor history, there have been 147 different vote distributions. You can see the full Votigami Spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TClmWreMF34Ljluvatu5rh_UTPxgNqRZmZkrG4EARYk/edit

Brad Reese was voted out 3-1 and this is NOT Votigami! A 3-1 vote has occurred 37 times in the past: Elisabeth Filarski, Tom Buchanan (Africa), Gina Crews, Erin Collins, Helen Glover, Butch Lockley, Darrah Johnson, Rupert Boneham (All-Stars), Eliza Orlins (Vanuatu), Lydia Morales, Tina Scheer, Dan Barry, Yau-Man Chan (Fiji), Denise Martin, Natalie Bolton, Taj Johnson-George, Brett Clouser, Jerri Manthey (Heroes vs. Villains), Holly Hoffman, Ashley Underwood, Ozzy Lusth (South Pacific, 3rd time), Christina Cha, Angie Layton, Malcolm Freberg (Phillippines), Eddie Fox, Tina Wesson (Blood vs. Water, second time), J'Tia Taylor, Spencer Bledsoe (Cagayan), Keith Nale (San Juan del Sur), Kelley Wentworth (Cambodia), Alecia Holden, David Wright (Millenials vs. Gen X), Tai Trang (Game Changers), Ali Elliott, Lyrsa Torres, Yul Kwon (Winners at War), and David Voce were all voted out 3-1. Due to Xander being unable to vote, this is the first 3-1 vote to occur in a Tribal Council with 5 people. Brad is the 9th person to be voted out 3-1 pre-merge, the others being Gina, Erin, Tina Scheer, Angie, J'Tia, Alecia, Ali, Lyrsa, Yul, and Voce. 3-1 is the first vote pattern to repeat this season.

VOTIGAMI FUN FACT OF THE WEEK: The only winners to achieve Votigami (outside of Winners at War) have been Sarah Lacina in Cagayan (eliminated in a 6-5-0-0* (6-5-0-0) vote) and Jeremy Collins in San Juan del Sur (eliminated in a 5-3-2 vote). Sandra Diaz-Twine, Wendell Holland, Adam Klein, Tyson Apostal, Jeremy, Denise Stapley, and Ben Driebergen all achieved Votigami in Winners at War. Jeremy has achieved Votigami all times he's played, twice when he was eliminated and once when he won (FTC Votigami of 10-0-0). Tyson almost achieved Votigami in Heroes vs Villains, being voted out 3-2-0* (3-3-2) just two votes after Cirie Fields was voted out 3-2-0* (3-3-2) and did achieve Votigami.

See you all next week, please leave any feedback in the comments!

VOTIGAMI FUN FACT OF THE WEEK: Libby Vincek from Ghost Island was the second post-merge boot in a 4-1-0* (7-4-1) vote as Michael Yerger played an Idol but this unusual vote distribution at a large 12-person tribal council was six seasons too late to be Votigami, as Kelly Remington from Worlds Apart was voted out the exact same 4-1-0* (7-4-1) fashion when Jenn Brown played an Idol. Despite being the same vote distribution, Libby was the victim of a majority split vote whereas Kelly was the target of the minority alliance (the sole votes were cast against Wendell and Hali, respectively).

In Search of the 313th Greatest Survivor Player of All Time: Part 2

This is part 2 of my ongoing investigation where I am attempting to find the 313th greatest Survivor player of all time (626 people have played the American version of the game, so the 313th best player would be right in the middle). Yesterday I eliminated all winners (too good to be considered) and everybody who was the first person voted out of their tribe prior to a tribe swap. This left me with a little over 500 possible candidates. Today I'm going to attempt to whittle the field down a little further.

The Losing Finalists

"We can go around here and find positive attributes for why everybody's worthy, but the fact remains Rich and Kelly are the two sitting here. Clearly these two played the game the best."

-Jeff Probst, Survivor Borneo (The Final Four)

Among hardcore Survivor fans, second place is not always seen as a particularly prestigious spot. The second place finisher has accomplished what a large majority of the cast did not, and they have made it the full 39 days. On the other hand, the fact they failed to win a jury vote is the ultimate criticism of their game. They had 39 days to make a case for why they should win the game, and in the end they failed to do so. However, the vast, vast majority of Survivor players never make it to final tribal council in the first place.

When I asked for feedback on how to further whittle the field in my last post, the most popular suggestion by far was that I look at the losing finalists, particularly runners up, and *especially* those who received votes. I will now present my initial findings on the non-winners who have made FTC at least once.

I consider the following players to be absolute locks in the upper half of Survivor players. If you'd like to argue any of these choices in the comments I'm happy to defend them, but the following are players I think will be accepted by most of you within the top half without controversy. These finalists include Kelly Wiglesworth, Colby Donaldson, Neleh Dennis, Stephenie Lagrossa (more on the strength of her Palau game than Guatemala), Danielle DiLorenzo, Ozzy Lusth, Amanda Kimmel, Stephen Fishbach, Coach Wade, Spencer Bledsoe (more for Cagayan than Cambodia), Tasha Fox (again, more for Cagayan), Aubry Bracco, Domenick Abbate, and Mike White. I think all of these finalists had reasonable paths to victory in at least one season, and I feel fairly confident including them here.

After some additional legwork I feel fairly confident including Kim Johnson, Clay Jordan, Matthew von Ertfelda, Katie Gallagher, Becky Lee, Cassandra Franklin, Dreamz Herd, Courtney Yates, Susie Smith, Sugar Kiper, Stephen Fishbach, Russell Hantz, Mick Trimming, Chase Rice, Phillip Shephard, Albert Destrade, Sabrina Thompson, Michael Skupin, Lisa Whelchel, Dawn Meehan, Sherri Biethman, Gervase Peterson, Jaclyn Schultz, Carolyn Rivera, Tai Trang, Hannah Shapiro, Brad Culpepper, Troyzan Robertson, Chrissy Hofbeck, Gavin Whitson, Dean Kowalski, Deshawn Radden, Xander Hastings, and Mike Turner.

This leaves me with 16 finalists that I still have some reservations about including in the top half of players. These include Lillian Morris, Twila Tanner, Sash Lenahan, Natalie Tenerelli, Chelsea Meissner, Monica Culpepper, Woo Hwang, Missy Payne, Will Sims, Ken McNickle, Ryan Ulrich, Laurel Johnson, Angelina Keeley, Julie Rosenberg, Noura Salman, and Romeo Escobar. These players either received zero votes or to my mind did not ever have a clear path to a winnable FTC. So putting those 16 aside for now, I have ruled out 47 additional players so far in this post for being too skilled to be considered the 313th best player.

Zero Correct Votes

At this point I would like to eliminate a chunk from "the bottom" of the remaining players. I'm now going to eliminate every player who quit or was medically evacuated in the pre-merge, or never voted correctly during all of their in-game appearances(not counting first boots who I have already ruled out). This eliminates Stacy Stillman, Carl Bilancione, Linda Spencer, Gabriel Cade (I'm willing to issue a "swapscrewed exemption" for players who swapped into a minority, but given Gabe swaps into a 5-3 majority I feel okay including him), Stephanie Dill, Robb Zbacnik, Daniel Lue, JoAnna Ward, Michelle Tesauro, Osten Taylor, John Paylok, Mia Galeotalanza, Brady Finta, Jolanda Jones, Willard Smith, Misty Giles (you can make a stretch case that she's swapscrewed, but the division of OG tribes is 2-2-2-1, so I wouldn't consider it a classic example, and also she may have been first out of her tribe anyway), Erica Durousseau, Gary Stritesky, Ashley Massaro, Mikey B, Chet Welch (not technically a quit, but he asked to be voted off and supposedly he would have been evacuated eventually for his foot anyway), Kathy Sleckman, Mike Borassi, Betsy Bolan, Kristina Kell, Krista Klumpp, Stephanie Valencia, Stacey Powell, Kourtney Moon, Dana Lambert, RC Saint-Amour, Hope Driskill, Shamar Thomas, Marissa Peterson, Colton Cumbie, Cliff Robinson, Lindsey Ogle, Val Collins, Nina Poersch, Roark Luskin, Jessica Johnston, Chris Noble, Pat Cusack (I shouldn't have eliminated him in my last post, I should have eliminated Jessica Peet instead. My mistake. But they're both out now), Bi Nguyen, and Jackson Fox (I messed up by elminating Jackson in my last post instead of Marya Sherron. My only defense is in the last 7-10 seasons my brain shuts down from skimming all these voting charts. Needless to say, they're both out now).

Fallen Angels

By now I've eliminated 92 players, and I'd like to break into triple digits if I can. So I'm quickly going to rule out anybody who was the final person voted out but who could likely have beaten all of the finalists had they made it to FTC. This includes, by my reckoning, Rudy Boesch, Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien, Jan Gentry (lol), Rob Cesternino (I'm actually fairly 50-50 on if he beats Jenna, but he's too good to be 313 in any case so I won't lose sleep over it), Terry Deitz, Yau-Man Chan, Matty Whitmore, Brett Clouser, Ashley Underwood, Malcolm Freberg, Kelley Wentworth, and David Wright.

Over the course of this post I've eliminated 104 players, leaving me with 415 to go. There is much more work to be done, but for now I really have to pee.

Please feel free to comment below predictions on who will, in fact, turn out to be the most mediocre player of all time (Eliza Orlins? Dave Johnson? Chanelle Howell? James Clement? Jeremiah Wood? Stacy Kimball? Liz Kim? Jason Siska? Kat Edorsson? Tammy Leitner? Sally Schumann? Pete Yurkowski? Kelly Sharbaugh? Rocky Reid? Shii Ann Huang? Ali Elliott?)

Additionally, if you have ideas on criteria for moving forward here I'm open to suggestions, I have a few ideas on how to proceed whittling down the field, but outside input is always welcome. I will likely post part 3 some time tomorrow.

If Rob were still doing the MR. SURVIVOR & MISS SURVIVOR competitions, who do you think would have won over the last 3 years? Who would have been the other finalists?

If Rob were still doing the MR. SURVIVOR & MISS SURVIVOR competitions, who do you think would have won over the last 3 years? Who would have been the other finalists?

I was just thinking about this since January just passed when we used to have Miss Survivor and Mr. Survivor competitions at RHAP. It's sad hat it got so heated at the start of 2015 that Rob decided to axe it.

That being said, in an alternate universe in which Rob was still hosting those competitions...

Who do you think would have campaigned to get into the finals each year?

Who would have attempted to become a finalist but gained no support and fallen flat on their face?

Who would have been finalists (usually 4 per year)? Who would have won?

Here are the names of potential candidates by year. (I went ahead and crossed out a couple of people who would have been very unlikely to have run due to controversy surrounding them. But if you want to include them, you can.)

2015 Women - Abi-Maria Gomes, Ciera Eastin, Kass McQuillen, Kelley Wentworth, Kimmi Kappenberg, Monica Padilla, Peih-Gee Law, Tasha Fox, Carolyn Rivera, Jenn Brown, Hali Ford, Lindsey Cascaddan, Sierra Dawn Thomas, Shirin Oskooi, So Kim

2015 Men - Andrew Savage, Jeff Varner, Jeremy Collins, Joe Anglim, Keith Nale, Spencer Bledsoe, Stephen Fishbach, Terry Deitz, Vytas Baskauskas, Woo Hwang, Joaquin Souberbielle, Max Dawson, Mike Holloway, Rodney Lavoie, Tyler Fredrickson, Vince Sly

2016 Women: CeCe Taylor, Figgy Figueroa, Hannah Shapiro, Jessica Lewis, Lucy Huang, Mari Takahashi, Michaela Bradshaw, Michelle Schubert, Rachel Ako, Sunday Burquest, Alecia Holden, Anna Khait, Aubry Bracco, Cydney Gillon, Debbie Wanner, Jennifer Lanzetti, Julia Sokolowski, Liz Markham, & Michele Fitzgerald

2016 Men: Adam Klein, Bret LaBelle, Chris Hamons, David Wright, Jay Starrett, Ken McNikcle, Paul Wachter, Taylor Stocker, Will Wahl, Zeke Smith, Caleb Reynolds, Darnell Hamilton, Kyle Jason, Joe del Campo, Neal Gottlieb, Nick Maiorano, Pete Yurkowski, Scot Pollard, & Tai Trang

2017 Women: Ali Elliott, Ashley Nolan, Chrissy Hofbeck, Desi Williams, Lauren Rimmer, Jessica Johnston, Katrina Radke, Roark Luskin, Simone Ngyuen, Andrea Boehlke, Aubry Bracco, Ciera Eastin, Cirie Fields, Debbie Wanner, Hali Ford, Michaela Bradshaw, Sandra Diaz-Twine, Sarah Lacina, & Sierra Dawn Thomas

2017 Men: Alan Ball, Ben Driebergen, Cole Medders, Devon Pinto, Joe Mena, Mike Zahalsky, Patrick Bolton, Ryan Ulrich, Brad Culpepper, Caleb Reynolds, JT Thomas, Malcolm Freberg, Ozzy Lusth, Tai Trang, Tony Vlachos, Troyzan Robertson, Zeke Smith

Obviously, some of those people like Joe del Campo and Ozzy Lusth are highly unlikely. I tried to include everybody except those for obvious reasons wouldn't have been included such as Dan and Will from Worlds Apart and Jeff Varner from Game Changers.

So there it is. Again the main 2 questions to answer... Who do you think would have been Mr and Miss Survivor the last 3 years? Who would have been the other finalists? Would be fun to compare everyone's different opinions on this. :)

/r/survivor's Most Attractive Female Contestants Poll Results (RES Warning)

Thanks to the over 300 people who voted in this poll! Below is a countdown of the top 50 U.S. women, plus international contestants with scores in the top-50. If you don't want to go through every picture, there's a chart in the comments with the names and some details on the voting. The results for the men can be found here. I'll eventually make a spreadsheet that details the results with the demographic statistics and other things, but with the Summit ending early I didn't have time to get all of it together.
