Quick Math behind Airheart

Hey guys Whitesushi here with the numbers on Airheart as well as some observations regarding the skill. This is sort of like a "review" post of the hero as well having played her for a while doing some missions. Before we go into the math, here's some things you need to know about the ability

  1. Damage done by the ability is based on the player operating the turret rather than the player who placed it

  2. Damage done by the ability is affected by TECH as well as Hero Ability Damage

  3. Ability only starts its cooldown once expired rather than when placed

  4. You can exit the turret early, you just have to bind a key to "Vehicle Exit" in the options menu

Now that that's out of the way, we move on to the math portion. Working backwards on ROSIE damage factoring in tech as well as hero ability damage, the base damage of the skill is 67. This is similar to Throwing Stars at 52 or about slightly more than half of abilities like Frag Grenade at 101 or Dragon Slash at 95. The ability I am going to compare it against, TEDDY, sits at 16 and we will be assuming Enforcer Grizzly's TEDDY in this scenario.

As you can see, in terms of burst damage while the skill is activated, R.O.S.I.E. beats T.E.D.D.Y. by like 3.8 times. However when we factoring in uptime over the entire course of a defense and then looking at the damage numbers again, this value is only 1.3 times.

If you just think about it, there is so much downtime on the ability that in most missions that last ~8 minutes... which is almost every mission, you only get to use ability TWICE. That's as bad as bombardment gadget.

In fact, I found that you need to achieve 79% accuracy in order for R.O.S.I.E. to inch out T.E.D.D.Y. in real DPS. Furthermore, there are other issues the ability suffers from such as

  • Damage fall off (you do less damage to targets across longer distances)

  • Accuracy... because obviously you are not 100% accurate with this

  • Stationary and vulnerable to bees/lobbers/blasters/slingers/propanes/mini husks

  • Overheat mechanic that slows down your fire rate

  • You can't do other forms of damage while in the turret (can't shoot, throw abilities etc)

That's not all. One of the biggest problems I have with the ability is that it is awkward to use. Since cooldown only starts after we finish using it, ideally we want to place and finish firing the bullets as soon as possible to tap into higher uptime. However, we are also given a limited amount of ammunition which makes players want to save shots for the meatier targets (smashers/mini-boss). Basically, it's a littler counter-intuitive.

Conclusion

If you are thinking of

  • Using her to melt Smashers/Mini-bosses, you are better off doing that with a damage dealer like Urban Assault because especially for mini-bosses, they like to move and can easily move out of view for your turret (not that you do that much damage on the turret either

  • Using her to clear waves of husks down a funnel, you are better off placing a gas trap since that hits everything and has close to 100% uptime

  • Using her to sweep waves of husks in open area, you are better off playing Enforcer Grizzly and letting T.E.D.D.Y. do the work

Even if you really want to use a B.A.S.E, there are generally better Constructors like

  • Syd/Tank Penny for heavy single target damage

  • MegaBASE for covering large areas (CAT4 Atlas)

  • Heavy BASE for trash clear and trap reload

She's not even fun to use because you are constantly worried about using up the very limited 150 rounds and having to wait on an almost 2 minutes cooldown. Not to mention if you are in public games, there's a very real chance someone just steals the seat from you :(

TL;DR Uptime on the ability is too low and the ability itself is plagued by problems that makes it not worth using unless you want something that looks cool

Some things we would like to see:

Start the cooldown when the turret is placed and limit turret placement to 1, similar to how BASE works. This fairly allows for more uptime by being conservative with how you use the turret.

Remove overheat mechanic. It makes no sense. Minigun can shoot forever, faster, and turret overheats after 6 seconds? Just let us dump our measly 150 ammo.

Remove damage falloff. It has bloom, which results in lower DPS due to missed shots at a distance. No need to multiplicatively reduce damage.

Increase base damage by 40%. The turret barely does more damage per second than well perked, appropriately leveled weapons.

And finally, but has nothing to do with the buff:

Make the turret face away from you when placed, not towards. I don't turn my back to the enemy to place a turret, so it always results in a 180° turn.

Allow whoever placed the turret to bump another player out if they wish to control their own turret. Airheart lacks the damage modifiers to be a gun only class. Being able to place a turret, use it for a smasher, repair the Fort, and hop back in for the next smasher is crucial. The current playerbase makes that kind of play a pipe dream without being able to bump.

BASE, DECOY, ROSIE.

Rosie has 180 second cooldown, and is destroyed after 150 shots, it can overheat. Does 15.5kdmg with 3100 tech at level 1, so do the math I guess :PP

12. Fish In a barrel (Reduces ROSIE cooldown by 72 seconds)

15. Campaign of the ROSIE (Increase ROSIE DMG by 24%)

I'll keep it short: She is to constructors what the Commando subclass was to soldiers - a fun hero with a decently strong ability that is crippled into unusability by an extreme cooldown.

Commando is now a very serviceable and balanced class thanks to the cooldown reduction... so just decrease the cooldown on ROSIE.

But not directly. Actually, the change that she needs, is starting the cooldown of the turret as soon as it's placed. If one is already out, it's destroyed. Just like BASE, just like TEDDY, just like Shock Tower, just like Banner. It's perfectly possible (although having multiple turrets for teammates would be really dope, that's maybe an idea for a future ROSIE constructor subclass).

ROSIE, compared to Goin' Commando, already has an ammo cap, harsher damage dropoff, less fire rate, the inability to move, worse accuracy and the overheat mechanic. It definetly does not need a worse cooldown (which, due to the way it works now, is effectively 2:10-3:00 minutes, YIKES, I dread to think what a ROSIE constructor without the cooldown reduction perk will work like if the cooldown mechanics are kept the same).

TL;DR: Make ROSIE cooldown begin as soon as it's placed and limit it to one ROSIE per player, because it's basically Commando but worse

So I bought Airheart thinking she would be a good hero BUTTTT her Rosie is a major waste , First you can’t redeploy unless you waste all the ammo , Second of all ( this relates to Battle R ) it doesn’t cover block hits ; in Battle R the front of the turret can block hits from assault riffles and other stuff but in STW all the lasers and pistol shots still hit you , I just feel like in the next patch update they should rework her Rosie ability

What is up with Wildcat/Airheart?

Wildcat and Airheart are the same "person" in-game, its pretty plain to see. Yes the hair is different but its her, same freckles and all. The Airheart character is obviously trying to reference Amelia Earhart, so the name fits with the costume. However the Dark Vanguard skin also uses Wildcat's head model yet the character has the name Airheart attached to it for some reason, when it has nothing to do with the costume's original aviator theme.

Both costumes should have Wildcat's name in them, right? Airheart Wildcat and Dark Vanguard Wildcat since they both use the original Wildcat's head meshes. Unless she's supposed to be a twin or something, she's almost identical. I mean yeah she's got a unique hairstyle but so does Battlehound Jonesy, under the helmet but he's still Jonesy. Adding a wig doesn't make them a new character in the world of fortnite.

and yes, this is a very petty complaint. Mostly just a nitpick, but folks are always pointing out typos in-game so why not share this obvious oversight?

The problems with playing airheart

Has anyone else experienced "harrassment" ( aka building walls around the turret or destroying the floor which ROSIE is on ) ? I legit cannot enjoy airheart becuz of players like these, if you want to use the turret then fucking buy airheart ffs, it's so annoying to place the turret then someone comes destroyed the floor and I have to wait for it to be ready again, I hope epic changes ROSIE to only the player who deployed rosie can mounte it.
