Rage comic leads to diagnosis of testicular cancer.

On November 3, 2012, user u/CappnPoopdeck posted a rage comic describing a true story of a male friend who peed on a pregnancy test, which turned out positive shortly after. http://imgur.com/Xt6B5

Reddit users quickly began writing warnings in the thread, saying that this could very likely be a sign of testicular cancer on a man: https://www.reddit.com/r/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu/comments/12kihx/pregnant_man_rage/

Medical student here. OP should absolutely see his physician to be safe. Pregnancy tests are based on levels of human chorionic gonadotropin which is produced by the placenta, but in a male it can be elevated by testicular cancer.

After reading all the warnings, u/CappnPoopdeck immediately warned her friend about this, and got the guy to get himself tested. Three days later, she posted a second update comic on the same thread, saying that her friend had indeed turned out to have a small tumor, and thanking Reddit for their help: http://imgur.com/oG492

OOP goes nuts. "Pregnant man rage": Rage comic leads to OOP's friend catching a tumor early

I'm not the OP. OP is now deleted (but I hope that they and their friend are healthy).

Original post from 3 November, 2012: Pregnant man rage (and the Imgur link)

Text description: Five-panel rage comic

Panel 1: Just male me, going through the medicine cabinet

Panel 2: When suddenly, I find an unused pregnancy test my ex-gf must have left.

Panel 3: For shits and giggle [sic], I use it.

Panel 4: *a little later [image of positive pregnancy test]

Panel 5: I'm pregnant

A bunch of folks in the comments have a ball (sorrynotsorry). The top comment is this one, which reads, "If this is true, you should check yourself for testicular cancer. Seriously. Google it." Many other comments suggest cancer as well.

OOP lets everyone know, "Whoa.. just saw all the cancer comments... It was my friend that did the test, I just made the comic for him.. but I am letting him know to test himself for cancer immediately. Thank you for letting me know guys, we may have dodged a bullet here!"

OOP updates! With a new comic of course. Imgur link.

Text description: Ten-panel... uh, cancer-awareness?... comic

Panel 1: Hello, Reddit

Panel 2: Many of you read the comic about my friend using a preg test as a joke and it testing positive, which is a sign of cancer, as all of you told us.

Panel 3: Today he went to the doctor to be tested

Panel 4: And in his right testicle they found a very small tumor, but since it was caught early, it can be treated immediately.

Panel 5: To be honest with everyone, I assumed it was nothing, considering a pregnancy test finding cancer seemed a bit odd,

Panel 6: But I guess there is a hormone the test picks up that the tumor produces, and that is why the test said he was pregnant [editor's note: that hormone is human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), which only shows up for some kinds of cancer]

Panel 7: I'm not sure what face to use [editor's note: for the comic], I'm sad be might lose his nut, while I'm also amazed a preg test picked up a fucking tumor and happy it was caught early, all at the same time.

Panel 8: So both of us want to say thank you, and in all seriousness, if you are a male check yourself for testicular cancer regularly. If you're a girl, test yourself for breast cancer regularly. [Ed here, again: men can get breast cancer. Everyone of every gender: don't ignore any unusual changes to any part of your body!]

Panel 9: For directions on how to check yourself, please look online or go to http://www.cancerresearchuk.org

Panel 10: Thank you again, Reddit. Namaste.

Reminder that I'm not the OP! MD Anderson did a handy article about this story if you want to, y'know, get info from real medical professionals instead of Reddit anecdotes. This should surprise absolutely no one, but they recommend taking a look to see. To see deez nuts! self-exams monthly and seeing a doctor if you find anything. Enjoy your genitalia, everyone, and have a great day.
