Everyone I’ve ever asked has said negative things about Albany, and i’ve seen a couple posts where people ask what to do in Albany and the responses they get are crickets basically.
I finally gave Albany a proper visit (rather than just driving through on I5) a couple weeks ago and it was honestly beautiful. Coming from Corvallis to Albany you come around a bend and then cross a lovely bridge over the Willamette and then are greeted by a breathtaking view of the historic downtown. It’s got a lot of charm, the downtown carousel is neat, and it even has it’s own history museum.
I’ll grant you it is small and a bit sleepy, and if you’re only experience of it is on the I5 it’s drab, but I really think Albany deserves a bit more love.
Let's try keeping the rants that seem to be posted almost daily , contained to this megathread. Posts about bad drivers, noisy neighbors, fireworks, etc, belong here.
Remember Rule 1 , be civil.
A photography subreddit of all the hideous places human beings built or inhabit. Come here for aesthetic appreciation of the darker side of the cities, towns, and villages in our shared world. We welcome any photos which show either ugliness, or a problem in urban development. Rural and suburban hell are also allowed.
If the building could be the home to a super villain or evil corporation, it belongs here or really just any creepy looking building or maybe just anything evil or ok just buildings no no lets just stick with villainous/evil/creepy looking buildings
The goal of /r/Games is to provide a place for informative and interesting gaming content and discussions. Submissions should be for the purpose of informing or initiating a discussion, not just with the goal of entertaining viewers. Memes, comics, funny screenshots, arts-and-crafts, etc. will be removed.
A safe space for GSRM (Gender, Sexual, and Romantic Minority) folk to discuss their lives, issues, interests, and passions. Hi, I wanted to share about something happening in New Albany Plain Local Schools. School staff were recently told they were not allowed to use student's preferred names or preferred pronouns, unless they have written permission from parents.
Many students are not out to parents for whatever reason (abusive, not supportive, ect.) , so they are now being addressed by their dead name by school staff. This is harming students. Staff was also told that they could be fired if they did not follow this policy.
If you're interested in telling the school board your opinion on this, here's a list of people to contact:
Debra Kalinosky (president) (513) 417-2619
Paul Naumoff (VP) (614) 309-6870
Mike Busch (614) 940-3686
Phil Derrow (614) 289-8613
John McClelland (614) 394-3456
The school board # is (614) 855-2040

A dusty corner on the internet where you can chew the fat about Australia and Australians.
6:30pm on a busy Friday night. Felt absolutely terrified for the poor workers and the families with kids. Hammers and everything.
This is getting out of control. Armed robbery in a crowded mall at peak hours.
Anybody else witness this?
*sorry smash and grab not ram raid - wrong title. Way more terrifying to be honest as the perpetrators were brandishing hammers around
what restaurants do you think are overrated? what restaurants do you think are underrated? let's hear your opinions
I’m new here. Travel for work and I always love to learn about towns and their fun facts. Any fun facts about the Albany / Troy area? I just recently found out that Bruggers was founded in Troy
Albany just registered its 19th homicide of the year. This time a 74 year old man stabbed in his home on North Lake. This latest homicide is the 74th since the beginning of 2020, a significant increase from years prior. 30% of the population (atleast on record) lives below the poverty line and that number has been steadily increasing. The city is aging, its crime Is rising, it’s becoming poorer and more and more long time staples of the city are closing. In this New Year let us pray for our Capital City because it need’s it and bold new leadership.
