In the Jeopardy Masters Tournament semifinals, contestant Yogesh Raut used his mid-show convo with Ken Jennings to make a plea to be a participant on Um, Actually. I sincerely hope he comes on!! He's a joy to watch and seems like a good dude. Jeopardy and Dropout content are my two consistent must-watch programs, so it was fun to see a surprise crossover.

I wrote something like "The new UI is an abomination and everyone that made or approved this horrendous change should be fired."
If enough of us do it... maybe they will rethink it.

I make music for TV, film and social media. One of my tracks on Youtube has comments asking for a 10 hour version. I'm uploading it right now (obviously taking forever), but what's the appeal of these repeating 10 hour videos?? I can't say I've ever wanted to listen to anything for 10 hours straight!

Spotify is rolling out a new exclusive font called "Spotify Mix" in the app starting today and over the next few weeks.
Check out more info in the Spotify Newsroom:
But Becca being a mom is somehow so surprising to me. And her being on this week's parent themed episode of Um, Actually just increased it even more. Like, of course, I don't know the personal lives of anyone at Dropout besides what they've mention on these shows, but it just was not something I was prepared for really lmao. But all that to say Congratulations to Becca and all the moms who are at Dropout, we love you and hope your families are happy and healthy!
I originally thought that Brennan spent the episode struggling between sticking to his values and always doing his best, and his competitive nature that wants to always win. But upon re-watch, I realized that there is an actual very clear point in which Brennan switches from "I will do my best," to "I will win this format."
It's when Oscar wins the limited edition LOTR box set, and admits to never reading the books or watching the movies. It is then that Brennan decides that Oscar cannot win the episode, and the very next round, he scores his first points of the game, followed shortly by his psychological warfare during the "Donald Trump," impression round. Brennan is then all-in on "winning" for the rest of the episode.
This is further reflected when Brennan decides to win the Dance game with Ally and sabotage Oscar, which I thought may have been just him either being strategic or choosing his close friend, but really, it's about punishing the heathen.
Let me start out by saying this: I pay for Dropout and have absolutely no intention of changing that anytime soon. Or anytime later to be fair.
Hi. I'm a pirate. I've pirated so much content in the last 30+ years it's mind-boggling. I had cable back in the day, and I was on board with Tivo from jumpstreet: I owned the very first box they made and upgraded all along the way. I've given networks and cable companies and streaming companies literally tens of thousands of dollars. I'll never do the math but it would not surprise me if my total expenditure on media in all forms is 6 figures. I pirate fucking everything these days. Hell I pirate from streaming services I still pay for because my Plex server is curated to me, and I like a one-stop-shop. I'm pirating eleventy-three quadrillion terabytes from Netflix as I type these words. And fuck all your ads, streaming services. Just fuck off.
But man, Dropout though. I actually did pirate some shows when we discovered it. Then I found out they had an app for Firetv. Then I saw the subscription fee, plus all the back catalog and was like "My time is worth way more than they want to charge. The service is worth more than they want to charge!" And I subbed. Every month I look at the streaming fees for Netflix, Hulu, Disney, Max, etc. increasing and every month I make plans to free myself from what has become cable tv-level pricing if you want everything. You know what's never on the chopping block? Like, never? Dropout.
The value is incredible. In these trying times (to paraphrase Demi on Smartypants, whenever you're reading this, I mean now), Dropout makes me laugh. I forget about the fucking horror-show the world is becoming for a little while. There's a rich back catalog. There's a show for most every niche you might like. And that low, low price for all the value you get...the price is right, bitch! Dropout TV is high quality content at a price that makes it affordable for most anyone. If I ever get the feeling that like "Well I watched it all, may as well unsub for awhile" Along comes VIP. Or Smartypants. Or another Dimension 20. Or a new season of Game Changer. Um, Actually exists to tickle that nerd bone. And soon Make Some Noise is back and the lineup looks incredible.
Sam...you have my sub. And my sword. I know. Coming from a self-described pirate that may not mean much to a content creator. But Dropout is exactly the kind of service that stops pirates. It's high quality and easy on the wallet.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk or whatever 🤣

I'm sure they're very busy with NADDPOD and life but I was always curious why they only appear in D20 stuff. It would be amazing to see their competitive asses on a game changer ep

A few months ago, I posted this: . I have since collated 3 months worth of power consumption data using a smart plug and Home Assistant. I thought it would be interesting to share the results as it may help others to get a better overall picture of total power consumption when running a Plex server 24x7. Here are the results.
Mini PC Spec
Model - FIREBAT T8 Pro Plus Mini PC
CPU - Intel N100 4-core
RAM 16GB DDR5 4800Mhz RAM (single channel)
GPU - Intel UHD (Integrated) 24 Execution Units
Storage - Samsung PM991a 512GB NVME 2242 SSD (Upgraded from standard SATA3 SSD)
External 2 bay 3.5" HDD with x2 8TB HDD
Connection - Ethernet > Gigabit LAN
PSU: 12v 2.5a wall charger
OS - Openmediavault 7 (OMV) with x15 Docker Images running concorrently
Power Consumption
Mini PC Power consumption (excluding external HDDs)
Using a total of 11,229 data points captured from Home Assistant from 22nd Feb 2024 to 22nd May 2024, average power consumption was 7.36 watts with a peak of 24.8 watts and a low of 5.5 watts.
External 2 bay 3.5" HDD with x2 8TB HDD Power Consumption
Using a total of 8,120 data points captured from Home Assistant from 22nd Feb 2024 to 22nd May 2024, average power consumption was 5**.74 watts** with a peak of 24.2 watts and a low of 3**.2 watts**.
Combined total
The combined total here is 13.1 watts.
Yearly Energy Cost
The energy price cap in the UK currently is around 25p per kWh, so we will use that in this example:
13.1 W x 24 = 314.4 W per day
314.4 x 365 = 114.75 kW per year
Total Cost = £28.69 (based on 25p per kW)
Conclusion
Considering my old PC averaged around 80w, this is a massive difference. My old PC would cost roughly 700.1 kW a year to run, which totals £175.02 per year. So the mini PC has paid for itself well within a year, plus I can run other things on it like Home Assistant with very little impact on power consumption.
Please feel free to ask any questions, or point out any holes in my maths :-)

I'm always looking to expand my playlists and find new favorites. Whatcha got? 🖤🤘😎🤘🖤
I fell off the new season of Um Actually because some guests had an awkward chemistry and I didn't like how questions were too long.
This episode was a banger. Ify was enjoying himself, the banter was lively, the guests were excited to be there, the questions were well written and had some clever gotchas.
If you're like me and weren't feeling it previously I'd love to know what you thought of this episode.
There have been 3 eps I've loved (Dirty Laundry crossover, Baby Bracket, Preschool TV 2) out of 6 I've seen (Just realized I missed ep6).
Loving 50% of the episodes after a cast change makes me pretty optimistic about the future of the show.
