Daily Community Tiering Post Day 35: Also known as the name that would be given to a mega evolution of a Pokemon called Nium, or the item you would need for an exclusive Z move for a Pokemon called Megan. It's Meganium!
MOD

Hello again everybody!

Before we get started on today's post the current voting for Blastoise and its Mega and Dynamax forms currently has A tier votes with a slight lead over the votes for B tier.

So with that being said we'll put Blastoise into A tier for the moment and same as all previous votes I'll continue to check the numbers and if anything changes I'll update it on tomorrow's post.

(Please note that this voting/tiering is centered around Classic as after a certain point in Endless only about 5 Pokemon and 2 abilities are truly viable.)

So current tiers are:

S tier - Garganacl, Cloyster, Skeledirge, Gholdengo, Tinkaton

A tier - Gyarados/Mega, Venusaur/Mega/Dyna, Aegislash, Corviknight/Dyna, Excadrill, Gardevoir/Mega, Toxapex, Scizor/Mega, Gengar/Mega/Dyna, Delphox, Blastoise/Mega/Dyna

B tier - Kanto-Persian/Dynamax Kanto-Meowth, Weavile, Starmie, Rhyperior, Quagsire, Mamoswine, Whimsicott, Aggron/Mega, Infernape, Alolan-Decidueye

C tier - Linoone

F tier - Dustox

With that being said let's get to today's vote!

Today is day 35 of tier voting and we are now on to the Johto starters! First up is the Grass type starter Meganium which is a bit infamous for being underwhelming among the Gen 2 starters and starters in general in the main games (despite having a cool design). Meganium's pure Grass typing gives it 5 weaknesses and 4 resistances which isn't ideal for a tanky Pokemon but this game does allow it to mitigate 2 of those weaknesses through its Passive Ability. Its Hidden Ability however is even more niche than Blastoise's is, instead of passively healing it protects it from status while Sun is active which doesn't guarantee it will actually end up doing anything. It also doesn't work like Hydration does in Rain where it will heal self-inflicted status such as Rest sleep nor does it prevent or heal confusion which is unfortunate since it does have access to Outrage. Its stats are overall somewhat underwhelming as it does have pretty good bulk but as said before its typing doesn't necessarily play to that. It also has mediocre attacking stats and speed. Its natural moveset is a little lacking but it does learn Leech Seed, Synthesis and Giga Drain by level up so it does at least have some ways to heal itself. Its Egg Moves certainly help it out some but compared to some of the broken combinations this game offers it all feels somewhat underwhelming even at its maximum potential.

(Also here is the post with rules for voting/tiering posts and a little more explanation about them in general: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokerogue/s/0LNZhPPzR9 Links to past votes can all be found here as well in comments added to the OP with each new vote)

And here is a quick reminder of what each tier generally means:

S tier: Top tier, can make or break your entire run, essentially the cream of the crop

A tier: really strong but not quite top tier, maybe slightly outclassed or has a slight weakness holding it back

B tier: solid choices that can make it to your endgame team, might be reliant on team composition to truly function well or might just be outclassed as well

C tier: usually early-mid game Mons, ones you don't really want to take to end game if you can avoid it, usually pretty decently glaring weakness but something redeeming enough to keep from F tier

F tier: no reason to use in end game unless you're doing it for a meme/joke

Abstain/No Opinion: this will be a voting option mostly just for Pokemon people haven't unlocked/used to their full potential yet. If Abstaining votes outvote each individual tier then the Pokemon will be tabled for the time being and another vote will open up for it later (can mostly see this happening with Legendaries).

    • We can only have two pinned at any given time, and want this post to have some visibility in the immediate future.

Megathreads

The main changes you'll see going forward in the community are stricter moderation and Megathread enforcement.

  • Our Daily Help/Questions Megathread exists for account-specific or repetitive questions
