Western Australia’s mining industry is the nation’s modern economic powerhouse. But since The Australian Financial Review Mining Summit last year, a mining industry more used to being threatened by super-profit tax raids is now being offered subsidies to kick-start its way into the low-carbon era.
Resources Minister Madeleine King, backed by non-major industry lobby group the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies, managed to get $13 billion of tax credits for the further processing of critical minerals, including lithium and rare earths, and for green hydrogen production into the federal budget.
