BYD is offering a bonus gift for the first 3000 Sealion 6 SUV orders
BYD Australia will provide a home charger box to the first 3000 Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid customers, worth $999.
BYD Australia recently launched its first plug-in hybrid SUV, the Sealion 6. To entice customers to purchase the vehicle the brand is offering a free home charging box worth $999 to the first 3000 customers.
The wall box comes with a three-metre long Type 2 cable, which is capable of 7kW charging. Customers will receive the wall box on delivery and it is compatible with other BYD products. Customers should be aware that installation costs are not included, typically this can cost anywhere between $750 to $1250.
The Sealion 6 is available in either Dynamic or Premium trim. The starting price for the base-model Dynamic is $48,990 before on-road costs, while the Premium is priced from $52,990 before on-roads.
The Sealion 6 is slightly more expensive than the smaller BYD Atto 3 pure-electric SUV, which is available from $48,011 plus on-road costs for the Standard Range and $51,011 plus on-roads for the Extended Range.
Drive understands since going on sale on 16 May, the brand has yet to hit 3000 orders for its PHEV SUV. Customers looking to test drive the Sealion 6 can do so at any BYD retailer, and can order the vehicle online.
Customers who opt for the Sealion 6 Dynamic will receive a 1.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine and single electric motor, which drives the front wheels and has combined outputs of 160kW of power and 300Nm of torque.
The top-spec Sealion 6 Premium adds a turbocharger to the petrol engine and another electric motor, which is mounted on the rear axle to bring all-wheel-drive capability. Combined outputs for the Premium are 236kW and 550Nm.
Currently, electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are exempt from fringe benefits tax (FBT), which can apply to cars that sit under the current 'fuel-efficient vehicle' luxury car tax threshold of $89,332.
New South Wales no longer offers a rebate for new electric and hybrid vehicles purchased after January 1, 2024. Victoria also removed its electric and hybrid vehicle rebate.
Drivers from Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania, and Western Australia can take advantage of electric and hybrid vehicle rebates, provided their vehicles qualify. You can find a list of all the government incentives for EVs across Australia here.
