• Why does the Northern Water Tribe believe women shouldn’t waterbend to fight even though WOMEN avatars have to learn waterbending?

I understand it’s a patriarchal society but the Avatar is often looked at as a god and there has been numerous female avatars. Can someone explain the logic in belief; The most powerful person in the world could be a woman so why feel that women are inferior? (Almost every other avatar is a woman which means for thousands of years woman have played a God like role in society)
