Manage your users' password strength

As a G Suite administrator, you can help protect your users' accounts by managing and monitoring the strength of their passwords.

Tip: Help your users choose strong passwords by sharing these password selection tips.

Set password length requirements

Set a length requirement for all users to prevent them from creating passwords that are too short.

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. From the Admin console dashboard, go to Securityand thenBasic settings.

To see Security on the dashboard, you might have to click More controls at the bottom.

  3. In the Password strength section, enter a minimum and maximum length for your users' passwords (must be between 8 and 100 characters).
  4. Click Save.

Monitor each user's password strength

Find user passwords that might meet your length requirements but aren't secure in other ways.

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. From the Admin console dashboard, go to Securityand thenPassword monitoring.

To see Security on the dashboard, you might have to click More controls at the bottom.

  3. View a graph showing each user's password strength.

The length of the bars show the relative strength of each user's password. The bars can change over time based on your password length requirements and common passwords that are currently known to be vulnerable.
