Legal Fees for Bashir Mohamed

Background

On November 29, 2019 Rebel News Network LTD published a video titled "Somali Refugee Crashes Catholic School Board Meeting." The video contains numerous lies and was intended to harass me and cast me as a violent person.

For example, the commentator states that I once pushed him into oncoming traffic. This is a blatant lie and has never happened. Furthermore, the commentator intentionally calls me an "Islamic refugee" to stir up racist and Islamophobic comments

The video currently has 98,000 views and has 2,445 comments. A vast majority of which are blatantly racist or offensive. Furthermore, comments containing blatant death threats were allowed to remain on the page as the video gained thousands of additional views.

In addition, they have published the article and video on platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

The video and the fallout have caused me immense stress and have harmed my reputation due to the blatant lies in the video along with the open death threats and racist comments.

Examples of Threats and Racism

Attempts At a Resolution

On December 3, 2019 my lawyer sent Rebel News Network LTD a notice of intent requesting that the video be taken down, and that any profit generated go to a charity of my choice. We gave them a week to comply. You can read the notice by clicking here

It is currently December 27, 2019 and the video and articles are still up gaining views and hateful comments.

As a result, I have no option but to launch legal action. My lawyer will be filing a statement of claim in January 2020 to seek damages and for the videos to be taken down.

The Ask

Legal actions against organizations like Rebel News Network LTD are expensive and sometimes take years. I am humbly requesting donations to support a legal fund that will only be used to assist with this action.

Any remaining funds will be donated to charities supporting marginalized groups that Rebel News Network LTD has targeted in the past.

My lawyer has advised me that $20,000 is a reasonable goal for an action like this.

In terms of logistics, any funds will be held in a trust in which my lawyer will be able to withdrawal funds to compensate for billable hours. Again, any unused funds will go towards a charity.

Thank you for reading this far. I really appreciate your support.

Future Updates

I will be updating this gofundme page as the case proceeds. I will also share court documents as they become available.
