Do not buy a Roam!

I bought a Roam SL recently only to learn it doesn't work with the new app. I spent two hours with tech support trying to set mine up only for them to tell me the devs are working on a fix, but don't have an estimated timeline for a solution. I can't even use it as a bluetooth speaker. I just have an expensive paperweight.

It is crazy to me that they are still selling them on their website knowing they don't work.

DO NOT BUY A ROAM!

Edit:

This is referring to new Roams. If you had one set up before the app update I've heard those work

Anyone happy with their 11”?

Im glad I saw this comment from some 2yrs old YouTube comment. Im glad I got the 11”

"sixty4pilot 2 years ago (edited)I own both a 12.9 and also an 11”. If I’m using the iPad at a desk or attached to my magic keyboard I prefer the 12.9. But as soon as I grab the iPad off the magic keyboard and want to use it as a tablet. The 11” wins hands down every time. Laying in bed watching a movie, watching YouTube videos on the toilet, sitting on the sofa reading the news. The 11 is way more comfortable to hold and a better tablet. The 12.9 feels bulky and wayyyyy heavier. Also when traveling. The 12.9 on an airplane tray table is way to big. The 11” is the perfect size. I’d say if you’re solely looking for a Laptop replacement and it’s never going to travel or leave the magic keyboard, the 12.9 is the way to go. If you’re looking for a tablet that can also be used as a desk/laptop item that’s way easier to travel with and hold. Go 11! New Edit - I sold my 12.9” iPad for the 15” MacBook air and kept my 11” iPad. I think this is the best of both worlds.

I was wrong about the fold...

I was a Fold preorderer. My inner screen worked flawlessly and I was always quick to tell people how great it was and not to worry.

Well, about a week after the last time I defended it, my inner screen went out. Started with a bright white light along a bottom edge and then darkness. Still responded to touch, but no image.

Luckily I was still under warranty by about 3 weeks. Called Google, explained what happened, they started a RMA, all was good. 15 minute task. Or so I thought.

3 days later, the replacement (refurb) device arrives. During setup, I noticed that swipes on the outer display were wonky. Started up the diagnostic test and confirmed that the external display has dead zones. Great. Flip it open, and find that the internal display is already delaminating. Super.

No problem, I thought. Minor annoyance. I call Google support, explain the situation, provide my IMEI, request a replacement device. They say that they've already sent a replacement... I explain, "Yes. The replacement device does not work. It arrived in a broken state. I need another replacement." They then seemed to understand... Said they'd start the replacement process and that I should receive an email and ended the call. No email arrived.

Called the next day. Went through the same process. Had to explain multiple times... Again. Received an email, ended the call. Great, I thought. I thought wrong. It was the RMA for the first device, which obviously wouldn't work.

Called a 3rd time. Explained multiple times. Again. This person didn't understand at all what was going on. Took over 1 hour to get through the process, was asked to use my phone to take pictures of my phone, etc. But, finally, I got a new replacement device request.

Now I have $4000 worth of holds on my card while the first device ships back and I wait to ship back the 2nd device. Super.

But yeah. Foldable screen not fully reliable. It will break at random. I was wrong. I'm sorry.
