You say that like your work is bad compared to hers, but honestly, both look flawlessly executed to me? And as a first project nonetheless! Most people's (myself included) first project is a rectangle that accidentally turns into a triangle.

[–]potatobear77 418 points419 points  (31 children)

Yeah for real! All these people trying Amigurumi as their first projects !! 🥲👏🏆

[–]fascinatedcharacter 179 points180 points  (29 children)

I can do amigurumi. I cannot do rectangles for the life of me. If it doesn't start with a magic ring I cannot do it. I don't get why amigurumi are called difficult, they're just single crochet, mainly.

[–]cumguzzlingbunny 86 points87 points  (3 children)

i understand the difficulty with rectangles but i really find amigurumi daunting

like. correct. they're just single crochet. one of the most difficult stitches to do for long amounts of time because it makes your fabric very dense and it makes my hands hurt like a bitch. and i have to do so much careful counting with amigurumi and i have to make my tension perfect. so many problems that happen

it is genuinely easier for me to repeat a more "difficult" stitch like shell stitch or waffle stitch than do single crochet over and over again

[–]fascinatedcharacter 9 points10 points  (1 child)

But counting is a transferable skill from knitting and cross stitch and reading your crochet for textured patterns is more crochet-specific ;)

[–]tigressfairthey see me hooking, my granny squares... sang that didn't you? 17 points18 points  (5 children)

I suck at magic ring/circle. I have never mastered it for some reason lol

[–]fascinatedcharacter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You just wrap an x around your fingers and SC in that. I do need to look up what side the tail should go every time but that's easily fixed by storing a direct link on my fav project page for my first crochet project

[–]upwards1961 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can do a MR but struggle with granny square! I started crocheting in 4th grade (1971) when I saw a classmate doing it during recess. My Mother was a seamstress but didn't know how to knit/crochet. I told Mt Daddy I wanted to learn, si we went to Grant's (later became K-Mart), he got me a hook, some yarn & a book, the hook of which I still have. He figured out the chaining portion, showed me & I've done it ever since. Daddy was a man's man, biker kinda guy so this is a favorite memory of mine. But, I digress....a granny square is considered one of the easiest things to crochet but in all these years, I find it difficult! But, I can make an octopus like nobody's business!🤣

[–]furfree1 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I used to have trouble with it until someone on this sub said that a magic ring is just a slip knot that hasn’t been pulled close

[–]West_Tomatillo2209 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Mainly because of the complexity of the different body parts

[–]fascinatedcharacter 7 points8 points  (2 children)

They're just tiny and fiddly. They're still mostly just SC. Yes, 10 rounds of 6SC is hateful, but not complex

[–]atomiclightbulb 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yeah only reason magic circles give me any trouble are the first like 3 stitches because it's really hard to hold the yarn in the right way.

If you can make the non tail bit of the ring longer for gripping it's a little easier but it's kinda difficult to get it regardless.

[–]MistressMalevolentia 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Same! I couldn't follow normal square/ rectangles to save my life. I gave up so many times on scarfs and such.

Then I pumped out a witch doll with a scarf, broom, and a hat (candy corn witch!) In a week for my daughter. It came out amazing and was my first real finished piece. It's much easier to me plus when I had to learn new stitches it seemed easier as well. I made a gorgeous shawl after a few amigurumi pieces!

[–]fascinatedcharacter 2 points3 points  (1 child)

In my first week I made one of those gnomes. It had a rectangle accessory. I finished the entire gnome, frogged the accessory thrice, ended up knitting that bit.

[–]MistressMalevolentia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok see?! People's brains just work different! The hardest accessory was the stupid scarf that kept wanting to curl as it was a long thin rectangle (like 8 or 10 inches long and 1/4-1/2 inch wide? It's been awhile). I only had to dog the doll pieces collectively like 3 times but only a little. I restated that stupid scarf like 8 or 9 times then just accepted it would be curly cause fuck it, kid is 3! She won't notice.

[–]RelevantApricot19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't even do even Chain stitches, they always curl up 😭

[–]TheOkamiRiku[🍰] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

For some it's the magic circle itself. Example, for me it was easy to fix my rectangle mistake which was I was dropping stitches. On the other hand I struggle to just start a magic circle.

[–]fascinatedcharacter 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I've been doing magic rings since before I ever learned to crochet, they're structurally pretty much identical to a disappearing loop/belly button cast on in knitting. The only thing I struggle with is remembering which way to wrap the yarn for which craft, as in crochet you usually work over both tails of the ring, but in knitting you just work over one. So I've got two video stills saved. After that, I just go.

[–]lovablefungus 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I think the hardest thing about amigurumi is getting the stuffing looking right

[–]fascinatedcharacter 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Usually that's either - Stuff more stuffing or - crochet more tightly

[–]lovablefungus 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Definitely. Which I guess is why all the pattern tell me to use something smaller than an H. But they can pry my H from my cold, dead hands.

[–]OkTutor7873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally this.

[–]Barn_Brat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried granny squares that didn’t go well then after 3 or 4 failed attempts, I tried amigurumi and it was much easier and I’m very proud of my first project that I gifted to my boyfriend

[–]sidrugs 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Stop attacking me lol, I have too many of those triangles

[–]InfiniteEmotions 36 points37 points  (2 children)

Or a trapezoid, lol. I remember my first crochet piece; I was trying to make a ripple blanket and somehow ended up with one side so much larger than what I started with.

[–]DLP1194 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Leave trapezoids alone….. I keep accidentally making my C2C flannels into those and I am by no means a beginner and all my previous ones have been lovely squares 😂😂😂

[–]InfiniteEmotions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes there's just that pattern that eludes you. Good luck!

[–]venusdances 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just found my first project the other day and I was so embarrassed it was like a scarf so thin it was a line.

[–]QuokkaNerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Mine was a warped and twisty "bookmark."

[–]Parental_Unit78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rectangle to a triangle? Mine turned into a circle 🤣🤣🤣 that said I love both first projects. Well executed and very well done ❤️

[–]guccigrandma_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ummmm speak for yourself mine was a square

Haha but for real, my first project was a granny square that I spent 4 hours frogging and redoing because I could not understand what was happening until eventually I did

[–]Impossible_Ad_3470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤣😂🤘

[–]Slight-Government 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first project was a 7 meter long chain, then I moved on to a rectangle turned trapezoid

[–]happydagger88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a triangle last night and got super discouraged 😭. Seeing this made me feel better

[–]happydagger88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a triangle last night and got super discouraged 😭. Seeing this made me feel better lol

[–]Evil_twin13 381 points382 points  (4 children)

If the bunny is your first try you did really well. The bunny was a harder pattern compared to the whale. Alot more sewing and increases.

Once you learn the tips and tricks to amigurumi crochet, which you can find on this reddit wiki, it really is a great resource for those new to amigurumi.

I think both of you first tries came out great.

[–]dilf314 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it’s a dog not a bunny

[–]lilenie[S] 46 points47 points  (2 children)

Thank you!

[–]artsydizzy 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Wait...the bunny is yours???? Jesus, I thought you worded it weird because I looked at both and thought to myself "well both are nice, but no need to get upset because your sister's project was bigger/more complex than yours". If I had to pick one that I liked more, it's honestly yours. But there's no need to even compare because both are completely different and both are wonderful and cute.

[–]meepmeepcuriouscat 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Seconded, the bunny is a harder project. The materials used are also on your sister’s side - she has fluffy yarn and the eye:head ratio is larger. The fluffy yarn and larger eyes tend to make amigurumi / crocheted toys cuter. You did really well!

[–]LionelHutzApprentice 233 points234 points  (0 children)

Comparison is the thief of joy.

Your work is lovely, well executed and a great first piece.

Your sisters is nice too.

Keep at it!

[–]Violet_Plum_Tea 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I can't tell which is whose. It's odd to be comparing two totally different projects. If it were a competition, I'd say it's a tie. But why turn crochet into a competition?

[–]TechnicalLunch7662 76 points77 points  (1 child)

Your sister picked a much easier pattern than you did. You both sis great! My first stuffie is so goofy looking lol

[–]TechnicalLunch7662 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s supposed to say you both did great. Idk how or why I wrote sis. Lol

[–]Sockenfan 134 points135 points  (1 child)

I thought you accidently switched the pictures! You are both talented but your animal is so much more complicated than a whale. And it looks great to me!

[–]RatherBeAtDisneyland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. I came into the comment to check. They both look amazing to me!

[–]Psychological_Lie390 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was waiting to see what you thought was bad. These are wonderful creations no matter what level you guys are at!

[–]AuthenticVanillaOwl 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I'm sorry but my first projet is a rectangle than ended up being a wave. Your project has a more complicated pattern than the whale, both of you actually did really well!

[–]pandaappleblossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somehow doubt this was their first time crocheting anything, like a swatch, I think this was their first real project

[–]Budget_Nectarine8204 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both projects demonstrate a lot of talent!

[–]Diligent_Opposite_63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was hoping to have a laugh but both are good!

[–]gregdrunk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP, you have to be shitposting! Both are AMAZING!

[–]violetsadness 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Your dog is so great though??? These projects are really not comparable at all, in my opinion, and even if they were, they genuinely both look amazing so I really think there’s no reason to be so down on yourself OP.

[–]violetsadness 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I say this with only kindness, but your inner critic is way, way too harsh. You should really try and see if you can sit with that sometime and see what that is really all about.

Continuing to be that harsh with yourself will literally destroy your life- trust me, as I’ve lived that experience 😞 You really don’t deserve to live with such a cruel voice trying to knock your confidence no matter what you do… you’ll never be happy with yourself if some part of you is constantly demanding perfection from yourself- you don’t need to be perfect to be good enough though.

You’re already more than good enough, just as you are.

[–]dream-smasher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re already more than good enough, just as you are.

You are beautiful.

[–]kykiwibear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started with a cow for my first project. Did'nt even make it past the foot. You can't compare yourself to others., it just robs you of the joy of a job well done.

[–]Knitsanity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both are awesome.

My youngest daughter started learning to crochet over TG break and came home for Xmas and started whipping out fabulous animals. Mama mia. I knit a lot more than I crochet but clearly she has the brain for it. Lol. I feel I need to hone my crochet skills more now.

[–]May1893 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Your's is the dog, correct? Is that the Ricorumi Puppies set?

I think the dog looks great! If it is the above mentioned set it is absolutely not made to be a first project in my opinion. I had bought it for that purpose and am so glad that I ended up doing a lot of other stuff first. It is the most confusing pattern I've ever done. I basically rewrote the whole thing to be more like the patterns I'm used to so I was able to understand it while crocheting. I also ran out of the darker brown. I think you should try another pattern if you generally enjoyed it and I think that even more if it is that set.

[–]lilenie[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it was the Ricorumi set but I ran out of yarn

[–]AndiLivia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They both look great!

[–]pluginbabyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re both so good! What the heck! Mine looked like a blob! I started with that little sprout thingy and yea it was very uneven but I loved it anyway ha

[–]darthfruitbasket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, that's a pretty cute lil whale and it looks like you did a good job following the pattern or tutorial you were working from. Don't sell yourself short.

My first "project" was a granny square, my first FO was a scarf.

It took me like 8-10 years, off and on, for crochet to 'click' for me. But if you prefer knitting, then go for it.

[–]AcrobaticBit654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please tell me I’m not the only one whose first attempt was a mishappen rectangle 😭

[–]Cumberdick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your sister picked a smaller shape that is mostly continuous, you picked a bigger, more complicated piece with more sections to stuff and join. You picked a project that is in general more comprehensive, meaning it has more points where things can be less than correct due to inexperience. For example i think the amount of stuffing in your limbs plays a big part in why yours looks a little less than perfect.

When starting something new, it’s important to do one of two things:

1) pick an actual beginner project, so that you do not give yourself too many things to keep track of while you are learning basics

Or

2) if you pick a more comprehensive project, remember to take that into account when judging your work. The level you are producing at for a first time is certainly not “give up bad”. Far from it. But if you expect perfection, set yourself up to fail, and then judge from a place of perfection, you will never feel like you’re good at anything.

Sorry for the long write-up, just my two cents

[–]No_Spite2653 2 points3 points  (1 child)

my first plush is very similar!

<image>

no pattern, very little experience prior. he’s my favorite thing i’ve ever made and his name is Francois :)

[–]lilenie[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How cute!! And Francois is a great name

[–]Hopeful-Object-9699 2 points3 points  (3 children)

You’ve done a lovely job. I tried making an amigurumi once and have learned it’s not for me. I was so worried about the stuffing peeking through I broke my crochet hook making my stitches too tight 🤦🏽‍♀️ My hand hurt so much from the tension I never finished it.

[–]lilenie[S] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Oh wow that doesn’t sound good. When I crochet I normally do amigurumis because they are so cute. And everything else I knit.

[–]pandaappleblossom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So this wasn’t the first time you crocheted?

[–]Hopeful-Object-9699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make hats, scarves, blankets, and other items. I finished a baby blanket and throw size blanket for my granddaughter and grandson last month. I’m tempted to try another amigurumi since it’s been several years. The kids are at the perfect age for them.

[–]the-shadow-cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to compare, it's only fair to compare the same item made with same materials. Hers it's made with chenille yarn that hides mistakes more easily than your cotton/acrylic yarn. Hers is also easier pattern, with less inc/dec.

[–]Mayana76 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Both are heckin‘ good for a first project!

[–]notstephanie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I legitimately don’t understand how people make things like this as their first project. I must have made a dozen dishcloths before I understood how to do anything else and it took me literal years to read a pattern.

[–]Beneficial_Breath232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of your project are cute, and good. Plus the bunny is rather more difficult to make I think : more piece, more color change, bigger, sewing details, .... You can be proud of you OP

[–]Badger_Infinite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you both did a very good job.

[–]NeverStops_AtAll_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are both so great! Can you share where the patterns are from please?

[–]ganymedecinnamonCrocheting while Redditing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BOTH of y'all did amazing for your first projects. And to do amigurumi for the first project is way braver than I would have been starting out...my first project was a seriously wonky blanket.

[–]IronHot1546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started today and I can even get a chain started for a wash cloth... these are amazing!

[–]Child-of-God-Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's amazing, especially for your first attempt at crocheting! Don't stop if you enjoy it, because it seems like something you're really good at! Both animals are lovely ❤️

[–]nailsandbarbells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick with it! These are both really cute and your FIRST ATTEMPT is amigurumi?? Amigurumi make great gifts, that’s how I justify making them so I don’t just have a bunch of plushies for no reason lol, keep going!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🎀

[–]sleeplessdaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these are both strong!

[–]1398_Days 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They both look great! Far better than my first several crochet projects lol

[–]cowkitty17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept scrolling looking for the other first attempt that wasn’t as good. Both are amazing!

[–]AnnieToo67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but I think they are both great. Yours was more complicated and it came out incredibly for a first project. The yarn makes a big difference and your skills will improve as you go. I love them both but yours is more unique and cuddly and leave on the bed all the time friendly! Great work both of you. 🩷🧶

[–]Amazing-Locksmith-36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is also attempting crocheting for the first time....screw both of you!!! 🤣🤣🤣

They both look great! I'm having such a hard time 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

[–]wokeafsince83 1 point2 points  (2 children)

That puppy looks remarkably like a childhood toy of mine. Can you link the pattern you used?

[–]lilenie[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It was a set by Ricorumi. A box with yarn, needle and pattern

[–]May1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I messaged you (I have no idea if/how Reddit shows you messages of people you don't know so I thought I'd let you know)

[–]katecorrigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those both look great! My wonky first attempt at crochet was a sort of four sided shape that defies all explanation

[–]vallikat 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Had you not said these were you and your sister's first projects I never would've guessed. You both did a great job!

My first amigurumi was a bunny that once I embroidered on the face became the stuff of nightmares. I've not tried another stuffed toy since.

[–]lilenie[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes embroidery as a face is a nightmare of mine. This was my first and only time doing that.

[–]CandyCorn-uwu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are so cute!!

[–]Crochetandgay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did i miss something? These both look awesome to me...?

[–]Disig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But they're both adorable. Like, I'm not seeing the flaw here?

[–]LadyBkyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's cute 😍

[–]Cats-and-dogs-rdabst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These both look really good. In fact I cannot make dolls to save my life and yours looks amazing.

[–]delicate-butterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. They both look great?

[–]Due_Psychology_9734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They both look fantastic

[–]Faerune187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a rabbit for my first big project. I can’t make anything else.

[–]Cautious_Evening_744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first project was a wonky headband. Idk why you’re comparing 1st projects and then considering quitting. Both of your first projects are great. Comparison can be the enemy of joy.

[–]After-Grapefruit3026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are both amazing!

[–]saayoutloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They both look cute.

[–]hookedbycyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are both soooo cute!

[–]LilBlueOnk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But yours has so much personality!! It looks like it was loved and patched up for years, it's so freaking cute!

Your sister deserves praise too. That yarn is hard to work with imo, and it came out so nice! The shaping and tension is really good. You both have a talent for it, but in different ways!!

[–]rlcourtney11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are both so cute. Love them!

[–]Hwy_Witch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They both look great, btw, I've been doing it years and still get arms and legs that are off sometimes

[–]One_Philosophy5293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg you’re both gifted

[–]Jer_senpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both super cute!!!!

[–]Potatowhocrochets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand, they both look really nice?

[–]PurityControl87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t know which is which!

[–]trippapotamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl, I can’t do more then a single line of stitches, you’re both winning

[–]RusticSeapig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🎣

[–]Light_Lily_Moth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are both so adorable 🥰

[–]Wisekittn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first project was a hideously misshapen rectangle

[–]CheesecakeAlert13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are cute!

[–]NinjaRavekitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could crochet but I bought a box with an 'easy crochet starter ' nd am to this day still confused (1,5 years later)

[–]pastaenthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only problem I see here is that you’re comparing when you could be celebrating both of your accomplishments. Both are great pieces, no need to compare.

[–]xKalistoPlushie mom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They both look good. The only issue with the doggie is that I think your hook size was too big or (and) you overstuffed him resulting in the holes. It's a common mistake, considering the size of the holes maybe 2 sizes down? Look at the weight of the yarn and pick hook that's either same or 0,5 smaller number. The hook number on the yarn doesn't account for the tighter stitches needed for amigurumi.

The dog head turned out pretty well, consistent tension, and the spot is cute

The fluffy yarn for the whale is kinda pain to work with, but rarely ends up with this issue because the fluff just cover everything.

[–]Sprinkled-Bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're being unfair to yourself. Yours is much harder. It's only natural that you'd find it hard and have mistakes. Keep it up!

[–]SuperSpeshBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok but I love the rotund whale.

[–]Crotalus6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably because you made it and you see imperfections in it that we don't see, but I'm struggling to find anything wrong with the bunny lol, it's ADORABLE and I'd legit consider buying it for my baby nephew if I saw it

[–]SaltyBooner1021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does not look bad at all!! Mine was supposed to be a ball toy for my cat and it turned into a weird shaped blob ball. He still plays with it today! Lol both of you did an amazing job!!

[–]lovablefungus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like them both for different reasons!

[–]brownrhon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are stinking adorable

[–]Hyperfling 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I still can't knit to save my life. The fate of the world rests on my shoulders and i need to knit a hat to save it? Nope, sorry. We're doomed.

[–]lilenie[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That is the way I feel about crochet. I can knit you everything you want. Easy peasy. But crochet? Give me an endless number of working days and a swimming pool full of coffees please

[–]Hyperfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't pickup a stitch. If something falls off the needles, that's it. Project done. Frog it, wrap it up and put it away. At least with a hook, 8 can pull my stitch back and just put the hook back in. 😅

[–]Delicious_Fix9980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously both look great

[–]Sangwoosbasement_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m ngl i looked at the pictures before I read the caption and I liked the second one more. Idk maybe it’s nostalgic cuz it looks like something I would’ve had when I was little but none the less don’t put your work down it’s genuinely beautiful!! (They both are) I love it sm🤩

[–]buffymckinley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely the yarn you used, 100% acrylic looks a lot different than blanket yarn, which is smoother in its appearance therefore making it 'look' better. You did a great job on your puppy!

[–]lilmisscrayfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are both adorable! You and your sister both did fantastic!

[–]theweebfriend_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it lol. I want it🥹. I need to learn how to crochet

[–]soapyideas 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sister did great‼️‼️‼️

[–]lilenie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes she did 🤗🤗

[–]loulouroot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to say that yours has a much more loveable personality! He looks like he has real character.

[–]KareKrochet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think ur dog is cuter. Sure the legs need a tiny bit of help. But if they were sewn on the sides and hung down? Would’ve been a huge difference. Much more work than a basic whale too.

[–]afternoonnapping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay but I thought the dog was the better one lol And it looks more complicated to me. I love him and the whale ❤️ both are great.

[–]ketoandkpop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly yours isn’t very good because it doesn’t look like a whale AT ALL 🐳

[–]Sammy-The-Sad-Snail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh before I read your description I straight up thought that you were dunking on your sister because you made something so complicated and well executed on your first try. I know it’s hard not to be critical of yourself, it’s something I struggle with too, but you seriously did an amazing job and you deserve to be proud of your work. ❤️

You are all very kind!

But I think my kind of humour did not translate very well… I know the kind of projects are very different and I’m not very critical of my work. And definitely not of my sisters work. My sis did soo well with crocheting and her whale is perfect. I just think my doggie looks goofy. Like cute goofy and I think it is funny how different our projects look.

So no hard feelings here 🤗

[–]poppetshit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What..? I’m so confused they both look incredible and the second one is way more complicated ??

[–]404-Gender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You picked a much harder pattern which requires many more stitches and consistency. You owned this

[–]TwiztedUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both look great as a first project. I'm just really starting out, too, and I really pushed myself to make Christmas gifts for my family. And I have to agree that making the plushies is a little intense with counting and tension. I don't think it's really fair to you to compare what you did and what she did. Hers, I feel, was an easier pattern (I'm assuming she did the whale). Again, both are a challenge, I just think yours (the pup) is a little more challenging, and you did very well. I did a similar pattern for my brother, and you did really well. Don't swear crochet off, I think you have great potential! Also, very jelly that you can knit. That seems daunting to me.

U know the bunny is the harder of the two?

[–]gravelmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say, the fluffy yarn your sister used is so easy compared the kind you used. Plus, yours took so much skill! Don’t be discouraged, you are extremely talented!

[–]fascinatedcharacter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are great beginner items. Good tension. Your yarns just aren't comparable.

[–]TheShroomDruid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yours is better

[–]unclebillsofficial 0 points1 point  (1 child)

do you happen to have a pattern for the dog/bunny?

[–]lilenie[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was a set by ricorumi

[–]not_melly69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have crocheted several amigurumi by now (started in summer) and none of them look as good as your dog -.-

[–]anthrohands 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m new at this so I can’t tell which one is supposed to be the better one but, I would die for these two plushies. I can’t wait to learn how to make one, they just look so hard!!!

[–]lilenie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally you only crochet a simple stitch all around. The harder thing is to keep count where a stitch marker can help, and to sew on different parts. So all in all not that difficult. Just try it and don’t panic. Just Keep swimming 🐠

[–]Zane_628Tunisian Certified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yours is technically more impressive, what with having to make several pieces that are stitched together.

[–]Johny_boii2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell the difference, you sure you put both pics in?

[–]Darkviper91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that is a cute bunny right there and I won’t let you slander it.

[–]chilledkatz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

could i havé thé pattern for thé bunny?

[–]lilenie[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it is a box by Ricorumi for a dog

[–]GreyDober 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What kind of yarn is this both the fluffy one and the bunny one ? Can any yarn make this cute dolls ? Thank you

[–]lilenie[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The fluffy one is honey bunny by Hobbi and for the doggie some kind of cotton and leftover merino

[–]GreyDober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks

[–]dire_campfire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

uhm that’s the cutest, most adorable bunny i have ever seen, and very well executed - especially for a first-timer!! if i were seven and allowed to pick up a stuffed animal in a toy store this would’ve definitely been my choice (and i don’t think i would’ve been alone in doing so)

[–]ickle_cat1 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

There needs to be a word for the specific feeling you get when someone you love tries your hobby and is much better on their first try than you were on yours. And you are mad because they are struggling less than you did but also happy and proud of them for doing well

[–]lilenie[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Maybe 🤔 But I’m only proud of my sister. Happy momma bear kind of proud.

[–]ickle_cat1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad you are both proud of her work :D this comment was slightly more about my own reaction and reaction to other people in my life who have attempted a thing I do and done it well early on in their attempts

I started in October and my first attempt was a…rectangle. With a lot of dropped and added stitches. You both are more than fine lol

    [–]Leli91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it can be of any solace this is my first amigurumi...it was supposed to be a lil cat but it turned out to be an ogre head 😂 you both did REALLY well for a first try! Gratz to both of you! 😊

    [–]anxiousslav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you kidding?! These are both amazing! Can't believe it's your first try, both of yours!

My first crochet project was a granny square blanket for my grand.other that was so loose it was more like a fishing net, you should be proud of what you did, I would love a floppy stuffy like that! And he looks homemade, so double adorable points!

      [–]Robinbirdy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look the same to me. ;)

      [–]PuddleLilacAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first project didn't even have a shape lol

      [–]Ok_Helicopter_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't being fair to yourself, that plushie yarn hides mistakes and uneven tension much more easily than a standard acrylic.

      [–]Mishter_goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly both are fantastic!!! And the dog is even a little more impressive as the whale is a more simplistic pattern, props to both of you for amazing work ❤️

      [–]Rainee_Singer_Riecke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Both are amazing

      [–]Girlg0yle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's your first try?? damn! it took me 5 years to comprehend basic crochet stitches, I didn't really get into amigurumi until I was 6+years into it. bravo!

      [–]WorkerTime1479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Aaah, so cute!!! Good job💖

      [–]Just_Leopard752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Aaw!! They're both adorable. 🤗🤗
